I just loved this Allie. I totally agree with all of it, especially the last segment about thinking critically, being well informed so that we can communicate in a way that is informed and able to persuade. It is so important to have good grammar. Thank you for staying on a good path that God has you on and doing what you are doing. I also do think you could have been a good lawyer, but this is just as important.

The Bible is a collection of books written over a period of 1,500 years. Christians did not agree up on the books approved to be the canon of the new testament until well into 300-400 AD. There were many books that were rejected as being non-canonical. The 27 books of the New Testament were read and followed for 1,500 years until the Reformation. Martin Luther wanted to remove certain books of the New Testament as well as what is called the Apocrypha: Hebrews, Revelation, James, Jude, and Esther, along with the deuterocanonicals Hebrews because he didn't know who wrote it and Jude because it quotes Enoch. No idea why he took out Esther, though he said 'I am so opposed to Esther and 2 Maccabees that I wish we'd never received them at all' and also 'I consider Revelation about as believable as 4th Esdras'. He also famously described James as an 'Epistle of Straw' and criticised books he left in 'Jonah's so childish it almost made me laugh' etc. It is worthwhile to study what happened and how it impacted beliefs. The removal of the 7 OT books, which are referenced in the NT, has caused a watering down of certain beliefs. You can disagree with any of these, but if you have never even considered them, are you actually making an informed conclusion? Here are some of the verses in the NT which are found in what is called the Apocrypha of the OT as well as a history of the idea of Purgatory: PURGATORY The book of Hebrews holds up to us an Old Testament example from 2 Maccabees 7. Why would Martin Luther cut out this book when it is so clearly held up as an example to us by the New Testament? Simple: A few chapters later it endorses the practice of praying for the dead so that they may be freed from the consequences of their sins (2 Macc. 12:41-45); in other words, the Catholic doctrine of purgatory. Since Luther chose to reject the historic Christian teaching of purgatory (which dates from before the time of Christ, as 2 Maccabees shows), he had to remove that book from the Bible and appendicize it. (Notice that he also removed Hebrews, the book which cites 2 Maccabees, to an appendix as well.) APOCRYPHA QUOTED IN NT Matt. 2:16 - Herod's decree of slaying innocent children was prophesied in Wis. 11:7 - slaying the holy innocents. Matt. 6:19-20 - Jesus' statement about laying up for yourselves treasure in heaven follows Sirach 29:11 - lay up your treasure. Matt.. 7:12 - Jesus' golden rule "do unto others" is the converse of Tobit 4:15 - what you hate, do not do to others. Matt. 7:16,20 - Jesus' statement "you will know them by their fruits" follows Sirach 27:6 - the fruit discloses the cultivation. Matt. 9:36 - the people were "like sheep without a shepherd" is same as Judith 11:19 - sheep without a shepherd. Matt. 11:25 - Jesus' description "Lord of heaven and earth" is the same as Tobit 7:18 - Lord of heaven and earth. Mark 9:48 - description of hell where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched references Judith 16:17. Luke 1:42 - Elizabeth's declaration of Mary's blessedness above all women follows Uzziah's declaration in Judith 13:18. Luke 1:52 - Mary's magnificat addressing the mighty falling from their thrones and replaced by lowly follows Sirach 10:14. Luke 2:29 - Simeon's declaration that he is ready to die after seeing the Child Jesus follows Tobit 11:9. Luke 24:4 and Acts 1:10 - Luke's description of the two men in dazzling apparel reminds us of 2 Macc. 3:26. John 1:3 - all things were made through Him, the Word, follows Wisdom 9:1. John 3:13 - who has ascended into heaven but He who descended from heaven references Baruch 3:29. John 6:35-59 - Jesus' Eucharistic discourse is foreshadowed in Sirach 24:21. John 10:22 - the identification of the feast of the dedication is taken from 1 Macc. 4:59. John 15:6 - branches that don't bear fruit and are cut down follows Wis. 4:5 where branches are broken off. Acts 10:34; Rom. 2:11; Gal. 2:6 - Peter's and Paul's statement that God shows no partiality references Sirach 35:12. Acts 17:29 - description of false gods as like gold and silver made by men follows Wisdom 13:10. Rom. 4:17 - Abraham is a father of many nations follows Sirach 44:19. Rom. 5:12 - description of death and sin entering into the world is similar to Wisdom 2:24. Rom. 9:21 - usage of the potter and the clay, making two kinds of vessels follows Wisdom 15:7. 1 Cor. 2:16 - Paul's question, "who has known the mind of the Lord?" references Wisdom 9:13. And there are tons more..

1 Corinthians 3 12. Now, if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble: 13. Every man’s work shall be manifest. For the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it shall be revealed in fire. And the fire shall try every man’s work, of what sort it is. 14. If any man’s work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15. If any mans work burn, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.

I LOVE this passage. It makes it so clear all these questions we have on how important our theological conclusions are. Is the basis of your theology on Jesus Christ, his inclusion in the Godhead, his death and his resurrection? If so, you will meet him after this life. If not, you won't. End of story. You can have the stupidest ideas on theology, but if your foundation is on Christ your soul will indeed be saved to him. And you could have the most accurate interpretation of everything else in the bible, but if your foundation is not in the true nature of Christ, then your soul will condemned to death. Cuts out universalism, cuts out all these wild cults/ pseudo-Christianity that do not recognize the deity of Christ, but shows that there is grace for honest confusion and good-faith but poorly considered interpretation of the truth.

In reference to the purgatory question: in my faith we believe in "spirit paradise" and "spirit prison," which is the time after death but before final judgement. We also don't believe that death is the end all be all- those who are in spirit paradise have the opportunity to minister to and teach those in spirit prison, which means that no one will ever be left without the chance to accept Jesus as their Savior, even if they never learned of Him in this life. ☺️

It amazes me that Bible believing Christians fail to see the clear indications in Scripture that we will undergo a change, a purification and transformation when we finally arrive at the beatific vision. Yes: we (if we’re saved) will see God after we die, and seeing Him will change, perfect and transform us. Catholics simply have a name for this purification: purgatory.

I grew up Catholic, and we were taught Purgatory is a place where souls stay "to be cleansed" before they can go to heaven. That's why Catholics pray for the dead -- they believe that there is still a chance for people, no matter how sinful they were in this life, to go to heaven - if they pray hard enough. As a Christian, I don't believe in Purgatory because I believe Christ died for my sins and there is nothing I (nor my family/friends) can do to contribute to that.
@myrandarosenbaum9332
@myrandarosenbaum9332 3 жыл бұрын
That is not entirely correct. It is not a middle place where everyone goes. It is only for those who were going to heaven anyways. We have to be judged and cleanses by holy fire because we are all sinners here on earth. There are so many passages referring to cleansing fire. No one who did not believe in Jesus Christ as their savior ends up in purgatory.

@@myrandarosenbaum9332 I’m an ex Catholic. My view is it’s Christ alone! There is not one thing we can add to what Jesus did on the cross not anything. He did it all! @yesman4jesus940 3 жыл бұрын
@@isotruth9888 Actually, you don’t believe “it’s Christ alone.” You said yourself: we have to repent and believe. So to Christ’s saving work you admit we must add repentance and faith and follow Christ. And purgatory doesn’t take away God’s grace: purgatory is God’s gracious cleansing action. God is an all-consuming fire that cleanses us from sin and perfects us in holiness. Catholics call that action of God purgatory. Plus the Bible never says that absent from the body we are present to the Lord. It says “we would prefer to be absent from the body and present to the Lord.”

@@isotruth9888 so just to clarify: when you said “there is not one thing we can add to what Jesus did on the cross not anything,” you actually meant there are at least two things we must add: repentance and faith. There are both biblical and historical evidence that supports Purgatory. Firstly, Purgatory is only for the saved but die with some attachment to this world that needs purification in order to enjoy the fullness of Heaven (as for heaven, nothing profane shall enter). Secondly, you will not find the word Purgatory in the scriptures and that is because it is a Latin word and of course, the scriptures were written in Hebrew and Greek. Therefore, Purgatory is referred in the OT as Sheol and in the NT as Hades. In the OT, we find that prayers were offered up for the dead, so that they maybe loosed from their sin. The souls in Heaven do not need prayers and the souls in Hell cannot benefit from prayer, so once again, we have an indirect reference to Purgatory. In the writings of the Church fathers, there are plenty of reference to prayers offered up for the dead and Purgatory itself. So, yes, Purgatory does exist. So from it's earliest of times, the Church has taught the existence of Purgatory.

2 Maccabees 12:38-45 38 After the battle Judas led his men to the town of Adullam. It was the day before the Sabbath, so they purified themselves according to Jewish custom and then observed the holy day. 39 By the following day it was urgent that they gather up the bodies of the men who had been killed in battle and bury them in their family tombs. 40 But on each of the dead, hidden under their clothes, they found small images of the gods worshiped in Jamnia, which the Law forbids Jews to wear. Everyone then knew why these men had been killed. 41 So they praised the ways of the Lord, the just judge, who reveals what is hidden, 42 and they begged him that this sin might be completely blotted out. Then, Judas, that great man, urged the people to keep away from sin, because they had seen for themselves what had happened to those men who had sinned. 43 He also took up a collection from all his men, totaling about four pounds of silver, and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering. Judas did this noble thing because he believed in the resurrection of the dead. 44 If he had not believed that the dead would be raised, it would have been foolish and useless to pray for them. 45 In his firm and devout conviction that all of God's faithful people would receive a wonderful reward, Judas made provision for a sin offering to set free from their sin those who had died.

Can the love of Jesus Christ be taught just by preaching without practice, by a Pastor or any independent church, however mega or world reputed it is, unless it is one of the many branches standing on a single Vine, the single body of Christ?. Please read John 15 2, Mathew 25 45 at least. Can karate be taught by giving a series of messages without being an expert of it? A Christian preacher is expected to teach how to obey all that Jesus Christ taught according to Mathew 28 20, which is conveniently manipulated by fake preachers as just enough to preach, but no practice. Please read the bible and meditate yourself to understand the actual truth.

Matthew 12:32 is simply saying that anyone who blasphemes the Spirit will not be forgiven, either now or in the age to come (the Millennial Kingdom). 1 Corinthians 3 is a reference to the Bema of Christ. Following the Rapture of the Church, all Christians will stand before the Bema (“judgment seat”) of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10, Romans 14:10 [“judgment seat of God]; cf. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15). Bema is Greek for “judgment seat,” “court,” or “tribunal;” thus, we could refer to this judgment as “the Judgment Seat of Christ.” This judgment is only for Christians; no unbelievers will be present at this judgment. In the Roman Empire, the bema was the raised platform upon which an official issued judicial verdicts or made public addresses. What is being judged at the Bema of Christ and, hence, that which receives a verdict, is not the Christian himself (John 5:24, Romans 8:1) but his life and works as a Christian (1 Corinthians 3:10-15, 9:24-27; 1 Timothy 4:1, 8; 2 John 8). At the Bema of Christ, rewards will be given to those Christians who have earned them; no rewards will be given to Christians who have not earned them, though they are still saved, yet as through fire (1 Corinthians 3:15). This is a fire that will test the believers works, not the believer himself. That's why the believer will still be saved.

@@mak88119 We have fallen short of the glory of God. What does this phrase mean? When we look at the creation of the first man we see that God took the dust of the ground and breathed His own life-breath into it and man became a living soul. So human beings started out as earthly beings who shared God’s own life , were partakers of the divine nature. This was God’s free gift to us from the beginning, a gift which we lost when Adam and Eve committed the first transgression and made themselves (and us) incapable of sharing God’s life. This I think is what St Paul means when he says we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God - we have lost the free gift of participation in the Triune God’s own divine life. In Jesus, He who is God and who is the Life became incarnate of the chosen Virgin and began to share in our human life, becoming like us in all things but sin. Becoming completely like His brothers, he shared in our corporeal death so that by his death he could take away all the power of the Devil who had power over death and set us free who were held in slavery by fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15). Jesus did not die “spiritually” but corporeally , because he tasted death for all mankind (Hebrews 2:9). In Adam death is the punishment for our disobedience. In Christ dying was an act of loving obedience - he was obedient even unto death, death on a cross. Many Christians today fall for the false teaching that Jesus died as our substitute. Jesus is not our substitute, he is Adam’s substitute (Romans 5:12-21). Where Adam failed, Christ succeeded. We are saved by being taken out of Adam and being inserted into Christ, thus dying with Him so as to rise with Him. Notice that we still die. The difference is: if we die in Adam we stay dead, but if we die in Christ we rise up. Participation in the Divine Nature is restored to us when we are born again because just as physical birth made us alive physically, being born of the Spirit makes us alive with God’s life (Roman 6:1-11).
