David R. Williams, Professor of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has been researching health inequities in the United States for two decades. In this video, he sits down with Don Berwick, MD, President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at IHI, to talk about the effect of racism - both conscious and unconscious - on quality of care for people of color.

Well said. This needs to be looked at with a cautious eye. Actions should be taken within the health field in order to become more aware of these implicit biases that affect the everyday person needing to get treatment/help from a physician.

Every society in the world has their own negative beliefs about certain out-groups.

@Samah Nour You are absolutely correct The travesty is that someone from a nod-descript country & being in the out-group can leave that country & be respected as a rock star in the larger world that knows nothing of his/her status American influence has Black Folk being the world's out-group

Honestly, quality of healthcare is more related to the individual's ability to pay for healthcare than any other factor. Medically insured Black Americans who can pay for their healthcare, will obviously receive a higher quality of care based on what they can afford. They are able to afford the medicine they need, and they are able to maintain healthy diets and participate in adequate amounts of exercise each week.

The negative outlook on African Americans is real. Over 70% wow. Sounds like Black Americans may also want to work on themselves because if 70% of the population views you negatively then some self-change needs to happen. I'm tired of hospitals calling in medical neglect cases because irrational parents are in the hospital trying to fight some nurse or doctor over their own lack of insight or history of non-compliance that places their child at risk! We are the cause of some of our problems.

Look to see who is eating fast food regularly. This is not healthy. You are what you eat.

Have you ever gone further to ask yourself why these people eat fast food regularly? If you deeply reflect you will see what the true problem is. They are not to blame at all

Of course you do. I am a black man with an autoimmune disease, all of my doctors are non-Black, they listen to none of my concerns, think they know more about my daily struggles of my disease than I do, and swear that I have a high tolerance to pain. Im in a group where people have the same disease as I do, majority of the group members are non-Black and I hear testimonials of how their doctors do everything possible to help them manage their disease. The only doctor who ever showed me ANY compassion was a Black, female doctor in an ER.

Kola James-Idowu I hear ya brother, but the battle against ignorance & racism is as eternal as good & evil. We must never give up or in to evil. We must always fight it with truth & love, otherwise “they” win. Look out in the streets, many are aware who weren’t before. Power to the people!
