Cool. Really glad I found this channel. I think a channel with lots of varied subjects makes things more spontaneous and interesting. However, whatever the direction it takes, your diligence will pay dividends. You've gained a sub👍🏽

Good Video. Thank You. I am considering buying Laptop that is capable of editing my Family Footage taken on DJI Phantom 4 Pro and GoPro Hero Black 9. I mostly record video in 1080P however may edit in 4K in the future therefore wanted to have future proofing. What do you recommend as RAM, VRAM, Hard Drive etc?
@Outlaw_SEO
@Outlaw_SEO 3 жыл бұрын
The choice truly comes down to the available $$$ resources. For video editing, the 16Gb will be able to handle both the 1080p and even 4K, although processing might not be as fast. The perfect middle ground between performance and cost is 32gb. I use 64Gb in my machine, and AFTER making this video, I’ve frequently seen the RAM usage up to 80% - which means that the demand is there, and the extra boosts helps. So the amount depends on your financials options. For your main hard drive - you would want to get a Solid State, which will make it faster that the regular (HHD). You mentioned a laptop - so by default that makes your desired build more expensive right away, since small-factor performance hardware is always more pricey. If you must edit on a laptop - due to a portability need - I get it. But overall, you want to have a large monitor that can fit several windows at the same time. With a small screen, you will waste too much time rummaging between windows. It really helps being able to see everything at the same time. That’s why edit on a 34” monitor. I had to use very powerful editing laptops at work before, and it was torture NOT because of slow performance, but because I couldn’t do what I needed, using the 20” screen. Here’s a link to a good video about Laptop vs Desktop. I completely agree with the author: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbUkKmnmchqqsk If you decide to go with a Desktop, you can use websites like www.pcpartpicker.com to put together a system according to your power and $$$ requirements. It gives you a list of parts that are guaranteed to work with the other parts that you’ve selected. Assembly of a modern (desktop) PC is very easy and there are tons of great videos with step-by-step guides. That can save you up to 50% in cost vs the price of the ready-built retail offerings. I hope this helps with your decision. Thanks for watching!!!

@@Outlaw_SEO Very much appreciated mate. Reason I wanted laptop is because it is likely I will be moving around the countries and continent during 2021 and 2022 (if COVID-19 permit). Else I would have gone for Desktop. After reading your advise, I think I will go for Desktop and will have my old laptop as travel companion since my travel will be one or two month a year and rest will be based on desk at home. Link you provided is for US, I live in the UK. I am sure there are UK company I can find. What about Graphic Card Memory and CPU recommendation?
@Outlaw_SEO
@Outlaw_SEO 3 жыл бұрын
You can build the parts using the pcpartpicker and then search for the same parts around you. CPU and GPU - I’d get the best that you can handle financially, EXCEPT - the new 3 series GPUs are out but they are sold out everywhere. You could wait until they become available, or get the best alternative to hold you by. In my PC I use 2070Super and it is more than plenty for video editing. For CPU - I run the Ryzen 5 3600. It’s relatively cheap and offers solid graphic and video processing.

I mean, RAM is pretty cheap. Just upgrade to the maximum amount regardless and you never have to worry about it. It's like 100-200 dollars for god's sake. We are not talking thousands of dollars here.
@Outlaw_SEO
@Outlaw_SEO 2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. It’s $100-200 per stick of ram. And there are 4 of them. That means that Ram can cost almost as much as the Computer itself. I’m glad that you’re in the financial position to treat this amount as throw-away money. Most aspiring video editors can’t. Thanks for watching.

@@Outlaw_SEO If you are paying that much for RAM you seriously need to reorganize your shopping skills. I put in 32GB for $116.00. The laptop was 1400.00. How is that half the cost of the laptop? You need a refresher course in mathematics.
@Outlaw_SEO

@@Airtouch67 what kind of ram did you install for this price? Links please. Some ram is cheap, while other is expensive. I did this build over a year ago, during the COVID shopping madness. Maybe that reflected on the price. Plus, my ram has RGB. Your laptop ram will not have any bling on it, so that will shave costs - yes. Here’s my ram: amzn.to/3FehkcK 64Gb will cost you over $300 What surprises me is the $1,400 laptop that is powerful enough to do video editing. Did you build it or is that off-the shelf? Link, please.

Scott, I’d say the best is this: www.newegg.com/corsair-128gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236631 But 64 is more than enough for most applications, even if you run After Effects and other stuff in the background. So I would go with 2 sets of these: www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236541?&quicklink=true

Hey Outlaw thnx for the video. I've recently upgraded my machine to a AMD Ryzen 5950x but I can't get it to use all the cores. I have my old 2400mhz 32gb ram and it uses it nearly %98 when rendering. I was thinking maybe my ram is the bottleneck thats why It can't handle more cores but theres something else?
@Outlaw_SEO
@Outlaw_SEO 3 жыл бұрын
Try boosting the RAM first. On mine, with 64, I’m hitting 48% usage consistently with regular work and rendering. I noticed definite improvement with rendering effects live (without actually rendering the footage) - especially color correction. Seeing it actually respond to the slider is PRICELESS.

so you 5950x running with 32gb ram ,ram using 98% ? that correct at this situation .ram is bottleneck of rendering and export i am using 8700k. before i am using 2x8gb 2133 ram. when i rendering ,my ram is running at 98% and pc very lag. now i change to 4x8gb 3200ram, my cpu run at 95%, and ram running at 55%-60% so your 5950x can eat all ram and got 80% faster speed compare my 8700k. but 32gb ram is bottleneck of you cpu now. if you add to 64 gb ram ,you can got another 20% faster

I’d go with 32 as the most optimal and cost-effective option. 16 can slow you down, depending on what other bottlenecks you have in your setup.
