I just watched your running 1 mile for 30 day playlist and I feel inspired! I just went out for my first run... around my block is 1.3 miles. I have never been a runner but I want to start getting healthier. I ran 0.41 miles without stopping and I hope to go farther tomorrow! :)

One unhealthy habit I want to break is constantly telling myself that my runs weren't good enough. This video has come at the right time for me personally. I've never been a good runner and have committed to being better, but I'll have a great run one day, and then a horrible one, and I feel so upset. This is what I needed to hear!!

I feel you! Sometimes I get down on myself too and wonder how the heck I'm going to finish a marathon when I struggle with less miles. I need to work on that too.

It's funny how that question comes up in every sport. "Does it ever get easier?" That question came up when I was powerlifting and the answer was always, "The weights never get lighter, you just get stronger." I feel like running is the same in that the distances or the speeds never get shorter or slower, you just go farther or faster. Of course, stronger and faster are all relative to the person asking the question but it makes sense in a roundabout way. I don't think I'm explaining this well but I hope it makes sense. As for an unhealthy habit, I drink coffee like I'm being paid to do it (I'm not; I wish). It gets hard to tell whether my anxiety is from mental health issues or an overconsumption of caffeine.
@MrsSpaceCadet
@MrsSpaceCadet 4 жыл бұрын
You really did make sense lol I feel you on the coffee thing too! I have to limit myself to one cup because I really do get way worse anxiety than usual with anything more than that

I started running again this year after about a 5 year hiatus. I picked up a runners mag that highlighted Erin and I am so happy about finding this channel. You have reminded me that what I struggle with isn't exactly unique - just hearing it from you gives me the motivation to get out there again tomorrow but also to be kind to myself when I don't do as well as I'd like. Thanks Erin

The habit I want to break the most: boredom/stress binge eating! When I'm having an easy day I can glide right through work with just the food I brought for lunch, but then when I settle in to relax I reach right for the chips. Or if I'm having an upsetting day I go right for the chocolate or I hit the drive-thru on the way home. Last year I started some meds that made me retain weight a little more, and the unhealthy eating has really been affecting my runs.
@MrsSpaceCadet
@MrsSpaceCadet 4 жыл бұрын
I totally feel you on this! I just recently got control of my boredom.stress eating this past month. The first couple weeks were a bit difficult especially because I cut out alcohol at the same time, but now I get to the end of the day and realize I wasn't even tempted by snacks! Keep me posted on how you do with it. really stick it out through the tough days. You'll feel so much better after you break the habit. We can keep each other accountable :)

Hey Mrs. Space Cadet I have an idea. So I run cross country and to stay motivated we have a group through the app Strava. You can basically make a group and share your miles so it’s a fun little community. I was thinking maybe you could make a group on the app and your followers can join to keep each other accountable . I think it would be a cool idea. Idk just an idea. BTW love you and your videos💓
@MrsSpaceCadet
@MrsSpaceCadet 4 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! The running plan that my coach and I are launching will include this, but maybe I should do the Strava thing for people that don't need what we're selling. Once I get my act together and figure Strava out, I'll mention the group in a video. Thanks for the suggestion! I really like this.

Unhealthy habit is simply eating too much, portion sizes are too large and it’s so frustrating to work so hard on running and cross training and see no results in weight loss or inches lost. Uggg. Love your channel, looking for a half marathon to do this fall...if any are able to be held.

Yes! I wasn't losing weight either and was super frustrated. I've had a lot of success in inches lost since following Alysha's meal plan (even very loosely following it) and also cutting out alcohol. I was just eating too much and getting down on myself for it! You can do it!

@sophiaraymond6564
@sophiaraymond6564 4 жыл бұрын
Mrs Space Cadet it went pretty sucky 😂 haha but I suppose that’s how it should go when you first start and are out of shape. But today I finished day 3 of the run a mile everyday for 30 days! The other two days I also walked 4 miles for a total of 5, but I think I’m most proud of today because not only was it my fastest, I pushed through the urge to not go. I usually have an issue with commitment, and today I got home after 8 pm, after working all day (lol I left my house at 7:35 am), I was absolutely BEAT. I really almost didn’t do it, but I remembered your advice about prioritizing yourself and using the momentum of putting the gear on to go. It makes me feel really proud to finally stick with something, and everyday it’s getting easier. Thank you for being such a motivation💕💕

You are such a an inspiration by being so real. I am in my early 50’s and started running about 3 1/2 years ago. Slowly started with a C25K and have worked up to 5 miles 3x a week most every week. It never seems to be any easier. Yes some days the concrete feet are less of a problem but like you say, when I look back I have gone farther and faster (still tortoise slow compared to others, but improvement is there).

My unhealthy habit: eating out of boredom or as a response to negative emotions rather than eating to fuel my body. I'm trying to be better but I'm not there yet. Thanks so much for your videos!! (Side note, do you and Alysha have any updates about the running program you were working on before you postponed it? You including her in your videos recently made me think about it, so I figured I'd ask.)
@MrsSpaceCadet
@MrsSpaceCadet 4 жыл бұрын
Alysha has lots of coping mechanisms to kick that habit. Now before I grab something to eat, I really get in my head and make sure I know when I ate last, ask how the food will make my body feel, etc. We are actually so close to launching the plan! We had to make some changes on the signup pages and we're aiming for the next couple weeks. I will share an official date as soon as we have it :)

I go through times of struggling with this. This is the first time I've been consistent and I've found that mindful eating has helped. And having easy to grab healthy foods. I know everyone says that, but after a while of forcing yourself to go without the crap, you start to not want it because you realize how crappy you feel after....not worth the short-lived pleasure of it

I ran for over 40 years and it always sucked and never got easier. Then a few years ago I watched a documentary on aerobic exercise. The medical scientists in the documentary showed study results that showed that the ability to improve aerobic fitness is genetically determined. They also showed that about 20%+ of all humans cannot improve their exercise tolerance no matter how hard they train. Another 20%+ can perform incredible feats of aerobic endurance with very little training. I think I'm one of the first group.

Yes and social drinking is really hard to say no to. I think that will be my big challenge with this no drinking thing when I can hang out with people again

@@MrsSpaceCadet I went 90 days with no alcohol and drank many mocktails when in social situations. I still felt like I was a participant in the social setting and to others, it looked like I was drinking...I never felt pressured to drink alcohol in these settings, and based on appearance I was participating. Sometimes, the act of having something in your hands brings comfort, and...in social settings you do deserve some kind of treat to reward yourself.. even if its sparkling water. Enjoy!

I am SOOOO guilty of this. And a lot of my job entails being on my phone/computer so it feels even worse. What's your plan to reduce the time?

Mrs Space Cadet I lost my job in March and have been looking to find ways to keep myself busy. Starting this week I have been doing yoga after lunch and walking after breakfast and dinner. I watch a documentary everyday so I learn something. I’m knitting again. Also, I bought two books about running. One that has pre-and post workout stretches (because I’m BAD at that) and the other about running your first ultramarathon. 😳😬 I think I’m going to train for a 50K. It terrifies me and I’m sure I’ll need to find a coach...but I won’t have much time to be on the phone if I’m running long distance. I’ve got to get a handle on being unemployed before I go farther into depression. 😕
