Does signing make my hands tired?

My hands have never been tired from signing, but I know interpreters who developed carpal tunnel from signing a lot. That and mental fatigue is why there are 2 interpreters for jobs lasting more than an hour

Oh my goodness that sounds so embarrassing. Luckily due to being a young woman and my general vibes, nobody is really scared of me, but people definitely just think I'm super rude or weird when I accidentally say or do the wrong thing because I can't hear. I'm glad you're doing well and back to doing the things you enjoy. Thank you for the advice and sharing you're own experience. :)

Hi nelle this is not about signing,I had my CI assessment on the 30th Nov at st Thomas hospital London,their beep test showed the same as my audiologist that I have residual hearing left, but the test where they stick probes in my inner ears to tell if the cochlear hairs were working showed they were & I should hear something,so I have to go back to have another 2hr test to see if there is a blockage or something with my ears running down behind my ears down my face! So the word test has to be left until they could work out what's wrong,there may be a special hearing aid that helps! I felt a fraud even though I have worn hearing aids for over 40yrs! It was a knackering day going by train & tube! It took a lot of courage & yes or no to go for a CI,I saw a young girl with 2 white implants she looked really happy! I so want this now,the surgeons are now trying to save people's residual hearing so they are not in a silent world when they are taken off! I am glad CI help you & we will try for your 2nd one! 😢😢

Hi, that sounds like a hassle, but it's good they're being thorough. It would be great if you could get a less invasive treatment to preserve your residual hearing (even if it's only a little bit) rather than getting a cochlear implant where most people do lose most of their residual hearing, even with new surgery techniques especially if there wasn't much to begin with. I think it's really important not to just focus on the CI itself, but rather just choosing what's best for your individual hearing. If that's a CI or something else then that's great either way. Try not to panic about it. It doesn't make you a fraud, just someone with a different type of hearing loss.

Hi Nelle, I very much enjoy your videos. I have a quick question about your signing. It looks to me (HoH ASL beginner) as though you’re using SSE, as opposed to BSL. Is that just because you’re trying to sign over speaking, or is SSE your preference? Or is SSE closer to BSL than to ASL? Thanks!

Yes, you're right. In this video I'm using SSE because I'm speaking so it's much easier because BSL has different grammar so it would be really difficult to speak while using BSL. Also in general, I prefer SSE over BSL most of the time because English is my first language so it's a little easier to follow for me. I just always like to clarify that I'm using British Signs rather than signs from another country so people don't get confused.
