I had a much bigger wedding than I wanted to. We were obligated to do all the traditional "yum seng" and cake cutting which I resented. The ang pows did not cover the wedding banquet, and it costs a lot more than it should. Many years down the road, when we look back at the old videos, we are still glad that we did it. Our grandparents are no longer with us. Certain close friends have passed on. It still brings a tear to our eyes when we see them on stage with us doing all these "old fashioned" rituals and just being happy and silly. The extra money that we were so bitter about spending seems so trivial right now

My wife and I were thankful that our parents let us decide how we wanted to have our wedding done. We did a simple church wedding solemnization followed by a tea buffet with some finger food. We didn't do guo da li, gatecrash, banquet, tea ceremony and all those things. I didn't have any groomsmen nor did my wife have any bridesmaids. Just 1 maid of honor. We instead did our house renovations at the same time as our wedding as we got a resale flat 6 months before I proposed to her. Finished our house renovation just in time after getting married and moved in straightaway. I think we even earned back from all the ang paos since we spent only about $5k for our wedding. Looking back, I have no regrets having a simple wedding. There are some experiences not worth going through because it's not worth the time, effort and energy. Save it for the things that matter and be practical. P.S We also went for a short honeymoon in Bali for 4 days that didn't cost much.

Though i do not have a ring on my finger yet. I was curious n did some research. Im glad that i do have some idea of my ideal after some quite research 😅 Thank you hush podcast. I guess i might be slightly prepared before the day comes. I guess after covid i did turn to being more introvert n less energy to keep up w frens who left n did not bother to contact me. I guess i rlly hope to be able to keep within a small one with minimal effort in hosting guest, table arrangement n being able to have time to rest n eat in peace. 😅

The problem with a small wedding is that many will get offended. Personally if I wasn't invited to my close friend's wedding, I'll be very offended.
