You might not like it, but the mother still has a right to bodily autonomy and being pregnant doesn’t erase that. Even if after the child is born and it urgently needs a blood transfusion immediately otherwise it will die and the only person in the room who can do it is the mother. She still has the right to refuse to give her blood even if it will inevitably result in the baby’s death. So why would a fetus have special rights to use the mother’s body without her consent that a born baby doesn’t?

@LWS1989 when the child is born and will die as a result of medical issues (in this case the mother refuse to give blood transfusion), should the doctor go ahead and kill the baby by injecting some chemical since the baby is going to die anyway? It is the intention to kill. Should we as a human being dictate someone's life whether they should be born or not? Should we dictate who we should kill and who we should not? That sounds like a discrimination to me. It is like China 1 child policy back then and a lot of people choose to abort a girl because they want a boy. Frankly, even in today's abortion, some people choose to abort for any reasons: from financial, health, gender, disease of baby and inconvenience to them. Someone can go and abort a girl baby because they want a boy. What is the right to life for that girl? Considering fetus is one of the development phases of human in addition to infant, toddler, teenager and adult, should right to life of the fetus be the same as the right to life of other phases? Should we kill infant, toddler, teenager due to inconvenience as well?

@etasjo @etasjo honestly, I don't consider them different. In an ideal world, I would love them to be born. However, with today's society, and the fact that majority of the people always bring this reason of abortion up as the main argument for pro choice (even though they 1% of all the cases), I would like to eliminate this part of the argument. In addition, we also should consider the mother's mental and physical health after those trauma as well. We should encourage and provide the resources for her if she wants to keep the baby but also should provide an option to her as well for medical abortion. However, she needs to be informed on both options and on how the abortion is being done so she can make the decision for herself. I think in order to progress the law we have to take the middle ground. We cannot go extreme to either end. I would rather save 99% of the baby being aborted for inconvenience reasons at a moment than not saving any at all by being extreme.

It is the intention. Letting the baby die because of health issue vs purposely killing the baby. Also, someone else might want to help that baby and give the blood transfusion even if the mother refused. Embryo, fetus, infant, toddler, children, pre-teen, teenager, adult are different phases of human development. Should we as a human being dictate which phases of the human being killed for inconvenience? What would be next, killing an infant because it's too difficult to raise a child? Right now, a pregnant woman can choose to abort even until 9 months for any reasons. If she wants a boy instead of a girl, she can abort that girl. If she doesn't want a baby because it's convenient and too much work, she can abort that baby. If it's intervene with her sex life, she can abort the baby. I have seen some girl who has aborted repeatedly...like 11 abortions when you are just 25 years old?! Should we allow abortion as a form of birth control because a lot of people use it as that? Some people refuse to use birth control pill but would rather do abortion instead.
