Great Video. Thanks for highlighting the importance of music. Thanks for the John Williams piece and the silent music examples. Thanks for confirming my thoughts there never seems to be enough direction by directors on what they are looking for in a seen. I would imagine this would happen after the music is submitted and redone or declined!

10:05 Reality is even stranger if you consider that "music supervisors" for film and episodic, even if they have a specific degree/certificate from a college in "music supervision", have often failed the basic music theory courses, or have been able to bypass these classes and studies completely. Imagine a novel publishing editor who had failed or had never been mandated to take a basic grammar class, yet is awarded a degree in Literature in order to go into a career in novel editing? It would never happen. Yet in music this failure is the norm. This is why "briefs" are terribly written, and music review sessions are terribly managed, because no one can explain in even the simplest terms, what kind of music it is that they imagine for their projects. In reading many thousands of sync music briefs, I've never even seen basic terminology like "make it major" or "make it minor" or "make it neutral such as pentatonic", or "the melody should use leaps", or "avoid standard tonality, use tritone substitutions". Even knowledgeable musicians don't bother using proper terms because they rightly assume no one understands them, or worse, that those uneducated will misunderstand them.
