You are the first person who I've seen addressed this disorder ever. I've had it for so long that I thought I was the "different one." Yes, I've had very stressful events before my voice got affected. But, even though I am no longer in that situation, I still can't control my voice. Thank you so much for addressing it, I feel I'm not such a different person so much any more. I have NEVER knew anybody like me, just me. You have been so very helpful. Thanks to you I know I am not a stranger anymore.

Believe me, you are not alone! This is a challenge that many people with voice issues have - they usually don't know many people in their circles who deal with similar issues. Or there are people like you but nobody talks about it. From my experience (because I work with people like you), I meet people in similar situations like yours almost every day. I am happy to hear that this video made you feel better. I wish you all the best.

I can relate to your experience. About two years ago, I went through something very similar. After some stressful events, my voice started to change. I became so insecure about how it sounded that I stopped communicating with my friends and even my family members; I became silent and isolated. I worried I had a serious illness; it was that intense. I searched everywhere online but found almost nothing about this issue, which was strange. It got a bit better over time, but I still have it, and it tends to get worse during times of stress or pressure. I’m really glad I found your comment and the explanation you shared. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this. Thank you for speaking out; it makes a difference! And a big thank you to the creator of this video for addressing this important issue.

I had an almost full voice lost for three or four months because of stress and anxiety. Funny enough my dentist was the first one to notice this given how much I had been clenching my teeth, and I had exams taken and the doctors said it was all psychological because there was no actual damage done on the throat area.

Some of what I do ..or most of it, becomes self defeating, because the horrible pitch augments the anxiety and starts a vicious cycle! Your videos are going to help, I'm sure!

I think this happened to me! I’ve been worried about my voice standing up to a new job and it caused me a lot of anxiety. Which seems to have caused a bunch of throat tightness and pain! This was after a month off of work so I had a lot of vocal rest. I appreciate the video, it validated what I suspected!

when i meet unknown person When I think I'm going to say this word, I stop permanently on the first letter of that word. My throat completely closes. I can't speak a word. But I can breathe right on that time

Have you tried voice or speech therapy? Speech-language pathologists or voice therapists are trained to help with that.

Yes, that is exactly how emotions affect your voice. If you need help, look for someone who can help with performance anxiety, like speaking or singing coach, confidence coach. Also, if you are open to hypnotherapy, some people have very good results working with hypnotherapists.

I just want to ask a question my partner suddenly lost her voice and had trouble finishing sentences, and couldn’t find the words to say. The hospital said it was chronic stress…..her voice has come back to normal since then though not 100% sometimes. Can stress literally make you completely stop talking temporarily? And what to do to stop this happening again?
@healthyvoicetips2 жыл бұрын
Even though I am not an expert in this extreme chronic stress conditions, I know that it can happen. In cases like this, you want to work with a mental health specialist. I would say that prevention is key to make sure that this does not happen again - for example, recognizing chronic stress, having strategies to lower daily stress, becoming aware of what your body and mind need on a daily basis.

I sang and got acid reflux and my voice became hoarse. A day after I was obliged to sing in the conservatory with stress because I was afraid to not perform well and I strained my voice. and now after 10 days I feel something stuck into my throat and my tongue bit dry and red from the sides. ( I kept silent a whole day after the day Of performance. And during the 10 days I was talking normal without rest) what do you think? Dear 🌸

I am sorry to hear that you are worried about your voice. If you are still feeling that your voice has changed and you are still worried, go and see a laryngologist for a voice assessment. It is the very first step in knowing what is going on with your voice.

It seems like there is part of your problem that is anxiety-induced. Have you talked to your doctor? Maybe a referral to the right specialist could help.
