Does Sublimation in an Oven work? CraftExpress oven review 100% honest testing oven sublimate

Have you been thinking about getting an oven for sublimation? I have and CraftExpress reached out and wanted me to try out theirs. I give you my 100% honest thoughts and feelings in this review. I learned how to use this oven along with you in the video and share pitfalls and mistakes as well as the wins
Sublimation can be a scary process when you first start out so we are going to take the journey with the sublimation oven together and sublimate on 4 different style blanks. a ceramic mug, metal mug, glass can, and a stainless steel tumbler.

Love your detailed video Corinne. One additional thing I would like to know is how hot the oven gets on the outside? Would you mind sharing that as well does it have a heat vent? If it does where is it located? Thank you in advance.

It gets pretty warm. I wouldn’t recommend putting your hand on the outside of it. There is a heat vent on the back

Hey hey!!! By any chance do you por a fellow crafter who follows you have a tutorial of a farberware convection oven that has double doors? I have one and i can't find the right settings without burning a tumbler

I don’t I’m sorry. I would recommend using an oven thermometer to make sure your oven is at the right temp but otherwise I’m not sure what else to try

This is such a fantastic video!! You explained everything so well and didn't leave anything out. I do appreciate that. I've always wanted this oven but it was just out of my budget so I got the inexpensive Gourmia Walmart brand. ($50 last year) so far, I have burned 3 tumblers. I just can't get the temp correct. And since it's not a sub oven, there's no help from the company. I think it might be worth it to get this oven for the accuracy and the full instructions and customer service. Do you have a thermometer for inside the oven?

@@CorinneBlackstone I do. And I've tried, 350° up to 385°. 350 isn't hot enough. 365 seems good but it still burns part of the tumbler. I might need to play with turning the item a few times during each heating. Mugs come out fine. It's just the tumblers. I've tried standing then up, laying them down turning half way. Maybe I need to turn 3 or 4 times, in which case, I would rather have a tumbler press. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m glad I watched, I was not impressed tho. The times were almost double what a regular convection/air fryer combo does. And I can fit just as much. I honestly saw no benefit. And honestly I was Sssssshhhhocked at a $299.00 price tag! I will stick to my tumbler press and the Gormia oven that I got for 79$. As always thanks for the review!

I was about to ask if you need an oven that is specific like this one but you answered my question and for a heck of a lot less money. I have wanted to do Sublimation for a while but couldn't justify the cost of a mug press or one of those circuit press things, way over priced. Under $100 for a Gormia oven brings it into a reasonable price to think about doing ....thanks.

Why are there two temperature settings when it’s just one oven compartment?

Just the way it’s designed. But it does help it heat up quicker which might be why.

Hi, thank you for your video. I have this oven too! Can it be used for sublimation of MDF blanks? If so, how and which would be the parameters of time and temperature? I have been making trials but none of these has truly worked

I don’t think it would work well because you need the pressure to really get the sublimation to transfer.

@@florac9906 maybe. Since I have never done it you would have to try it yourself. I don’t have any trials to compare it to. I would worry about it possibly warping due to the pressure coming from the shrink wrap but again you won’t know until you try it

Great thanks! Do they protect well? I have the ones with the dots all over them and I find that the heat still slips through around the dots.

Any updates on the issues you had with the temps being different on the top and bottom? Also, if you press the start button after it has reached the temperature does it reset the timer?

It does not reset the timer if you press it. you have to turn the knob. And yes I had to hold the buttons down to sync them

is there a way that you may know of to do a tapered tumbler in a tumbler press that only does skinny tumbler press ? if you not do you know where i might find accessories to make my press able to do tapered ? thnaks in advance for your help.

So the issue is that many tumbler presses only have one piece that sets the pressure on your tumbler. The press I use has two so it makes it possible to do the tapered tumblers. I highly recommend the press I use for that type of tumbler

PYD Life has this 3 in 1 Tumbler heat press with dual controls. I bought this one for a huge discount on Prime Day. It has dual controls so you can keep the 2 smaller heater sizes in there and use them at the same time. They have a lot more heater sizes you can get if you want. I do more of my 20 Oz tumblers and for now have the long one in there and the smaller heaters are stored in their individual boxes. Clearly this is a workhorse but they have a 2 in 1 and a single also. I just wanted you to see the different heater sizes and all the possibilities. Black Friday prices are starting early so leave this on your cart or save for later list so you remember to check on it.

I would like to see you use the oven with blanks from another company. Their blanks seem to be priced a little higher, and then you have to pay for the shrink wrap separately. Too bad the company doesn’t include the shrink wrap with the blanks.

Regardless of blank you still will need shrink wrap but yes I will be using with other blanks as well

How much does it cost and can you use regular inkjet printer

A printer for this can be anywhere from $100-$1000. The printer I use is about $300. You need to use sublimation ink not inkjet ink. If you are thinking of getting into sublimation I highly recommend watching some of my sublimation videos in my playlist. I go over all the things you need

I like the epson eco tanks you can find them for a fairly decent price you just put sublimation ink instead of the ink it comes with

@@stevelaminack1516 it’s super easy to fix you just run a print head cleaning takes maybe 5 minutes tops and yes it’s common if you don’t print a ton. I had a lot going on and forgot to print for like two weeks

Great review but I think Gormia oven someone below said they were using for under $100 is a better deal than this $300 oven that seems to complicate things as does the inaccurate directions it appears.

No. I don’t think that would be safe because shoes contain so much plastic that would melt in the oven
