I never tape the top and bottom of my tumbler and I never have an issue. I felt when I tape the top and bottom I always had an issue. I also use clear tape and remove the air from the inner seam and outer seam and with the clear tape I can see my seam seal up. To remove the air from my tape seam I use a matha stuard card maker tool, It works perfect. I also use the shrink wrap. I have a tumbler press but I perfer to use the same oven you used. By the way my first oven, the same one after making a lot of tumblers caught fire. Thanks so much for another great video.

You know, it’s funny. Some people have to over tape the edges (me) to get good results, and some people don’t tape the edges at all with great results! I can get away with not taping sometimes, but I’ve found a 100% consistent great result by taping the way I do, so I just keep on doing it that way. I admire those of you who can get by without taping! Thanks for watching!

Definitely try it! I swear by it! I press at 365 degrees with the seam at the 9 o’clock position (looking at the bottom) for 50 seconds, rotate 180 degrees (seam at 3 o’clock position) for 50 seconds, rotate 90 degrees (seam at 6 o’clock position) for 25 seconds, rotate 180 degrees (seam at 12 o’clock position) for a final 25 seconds. I am excited to try this new method later today!!! The tops and bottoms of my tumblers always came out great when I was using a convection oven, but I can see some issues caused by puckering at the top/bottom with my tumbler press. However, the main part of my designs are more crisp with the tumbler press. So, maybe I can finally get one that I am happy with:) Thanks so much!!!

Maybe I need the wider tape.. No matter what I do I still get a little triangle of ghosting at the top and bottom. I've pushed it down, taped it heavily, etc. Most recently I bought the clear heat tape. I've always worried about my center seam not looking perfect. I switched to an overlap and it's a little better. But no matter how much attention I give it, it's still almost always visible. I use a scraper tool but I usually have at least a few spots at the top and bottle.

Hey! I always suggest to use some sort of blowout paper (butcher paper, computer pater, etc.), and I do on coffee mugs, but I don’t with tumblers! When I first started, I forgot, I never had any issues, so I just kept making them without the blowout paper! I think the type of sublimation paper you use can help or hurt. Hey, Caleb! Im going to say yes, I believe a tumbler press with make a lot of issues go away that could be caused by trying to press a tumbler in a mug press. That said, there are a lot of cheap tumbler presses from eBay, Amazon and Alibaba that are hit or miss and sometimes make me nervous. So yes, a tumbler press will alleviate a lot of issues, but there could be additional or other issues with a tumbler press. I’ll definitely work on trying to add a video (or maybe a short) on measuring, cutting a d wrapping the paper. In a nutshell, my top is flush with the top of the cup, my bottom is long enough to just start curving on the bottom, and my paper overlap is about 1/8” total (1/16” image and 1/16” blank paper). Sometimes that 1/16” is more like 1/8”, but I try to keep it at 1/16”.

I would like to know when you add the seam line? If it is before you print your design, do you add a small line of either side of your print so it meets and joins together?
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. I added the seam when I was creating the files. They were part of the image. On some images, I only add it to one side. If the line has a shadow or a jagged edge, sometimes I’ll add it to one side, then copy and reverse it and add it to the other side as well. If I do that, the second side is a little wider to account for the slight overlap. Thanks for watching!

Hello what is the temperature in your tumbler press? I have done 3 tumblers and the colors look awful either burn or not bright, blacks look brown. I can't figure it out 🙁
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Blacks coming out brown is an indication of too much time and/or a temperature too high. I bake at 365 degrees for 50 seconds, rotate 180 degrees, 50 more seconds, rotate 90 degrees, 25 seconds, rotate 180 degrees for a final 25 seconds. All light pressure. Best of luck, and thanks for watching!

@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Valerie! You don’t have to, but I often find myself simplifying the layer, the duplicating and rotating the duplicated layer horizontally and sliding over to the other side IF I’m using a drop shadow. That gives a]the same shadow to both edges. And I make the seam on the right side just a tad wider, since a tiny bit of the edge will overlap. I have another video detailing the process a little more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJWzoH5pfpmriq8 Thanks so much for watching!

What is the measurement of your image/paper? Or do you cut the paper to the size of tumbler? (Example my paper is 8.5x11 so when I print 9.3 by 8.1 there is a lot of white I have to cut off… I’m never sure of what size I should make the paper to wrap around the tumbler) I’m the video it wrapped around perfectly and I didn’t see you trim off anything….. also should the image overlap at the seem?
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Crystal! I print on 8-1/2” x 11” paper as well. My image is 9-1/4” x 8-1/8”. Once I print the image, I trim the top, bottom and right side right on the edge of the design, cutting off a super small amount (like 1/64”), just enough to make sure there’s no white. I leave a small bit of white on the left side. That will end up being the top of the overlap. My overlap is between 1/8” and 1/4”. I try to stay closer to only 1/8”. Thanks for watching!

Funny you should ask! For coffee mugs, I add a piece of copy paper, but for tumblers I do not! Don’t ask me why, I don’t know! Well, truthfully I do know, i]but it’s a little embarrassing! When I first started using a press, I was doing coffee mugs and began using blowout paper. When I did my first few tumblers, I forgot to add it, and then just kept going with that process! But I do suggest people use some sort of blowout paper, just to make sure no ink gets on their press!

What size do you print your design and do you Trim off all white to edge of the design before sublimating. One last question. Hey, Vicki! Great questions! I print my design 9-1/4” by just under 8-1/8”. I completely trim 3 of the sides and leave about 1/16” on the side that will overlap. When I wrap, I overlap anywhere between 1/16” and 3/16”, usually closer to 1/8”. I’ve gone as much as 1/4” overlap, depending on the circumference of the tumbler. Because, yes, I’ve had sizing differences as well! I hope that makes sense! Thanks so much for watching!
