Man, looking here, I'm definitely in the minority! I thought the story of Tears of the Kingdom was super weak aside from a few big moments, it repeated itself constantly, which made it feel longer. I kept kind of holding it in because Breath of the Wild's story was elevated by DLC, and I figured the same would happen here. Aside from Penn, I didn't think the new characters held a candle to the Champions or Kass.
@Cheesehead302 Жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you, man. Personally, I'm really glad they confirmed that they aren't interested in using the world again and that there won't be DLC. I was worried too much of this would feel been there done that, and it 100 percent did to me. The flaws of the progression system really started to show for me now that it was the second trip through the world, and the story itself felt like it was almost a Mario Galaxy 2 pseudo-retelling of the first game's. Genuinely felt insulted at the part when the "biiig reveal" happens and the sages stand there and pretend to be shocked after I'd seen the same copy and pasted cutscenes. Mode than anything, I'm just ready for new characters, a new art style, and a different setting and concept. After 9+ years with this universe in my headspace, I'm kind of exhausted of it.

DLC can expand on the world of any game, but TotK’s story isn’t very deep as (like you said) they pretty much retell the same story 4 times. It doesn’t inherently leave you with additional questions that need answers. With _Xenoblade_ DLC (as you’d know, Chugga), they expand on the lore and stories of their respective games with new playable characters while expanding on the villains of the base game (like Jin, Malos, & N). Zelda has always been traditional good vs. evil, so I don’t think there’s anything to explore in terms of Ganondorf’s character. The fact that Aonuma and crew didn’t even give names or faces to the original Sages while also reusing the Champions’ voice actors tells me they weren’t interested in expanding the world of Ancient Hyrule.

DLC 1- unlocks Master Mode, adds a new Sky Island called "The Island of the Goddess" aka Skyloft, which would have Wild Loftwings you can ride but not tame. And a new mission from Sidon's wife to help her Zora's Domian which is probably located off the coast. Off course this come with a few Shrines for fast travel, whether Nintendo does anything special with them or make them all Blesing Shrines is up to them. DLC 2- this is a mission involving Sheika research, we learn what happened to all the Sheika tech from BotW, help Robbie upgrade the Pura Pad by finding Guardians in remote hidden areas and at the end we get Stasis back, replacing the Map icon on the ability wheel. Next we help Josha with more Depths research, which culminates with finding Gloom Link (Dark/Shadow Link), maybe another Overworld Boss like Aquamentis and maybe ending with a Colossal Boss that requires the Sages to join in. The latter part i mention bc of a log i read from one of the Yiga hideouts in the Depths, where the mentioned a "Huge Door, they could hear really loud monster roars" from. Also how about a small side quest to find Kass alongside Pell? It could be on either pack

I have never understood why so many people thought, or just assumed, TotK was getting DLC. Almost all of Nintendo's games that have major DLC had their Expansion Passes announced before the game even came out: Splatoon 2 and 3, BotW, Xenoblade 3, etc. TotK had nothing of the sort, the developers constantly said they put all of their ideas into this title, and they delayed it a year solely for additional QA. And yet people still assumed there was more to come? Comes off as very entitled imo.
@leonro Жыл бұрын
There was still Mario Kart 8 (both classic and deluxe), Smash fighter pass 2, Snipperclips, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Octo Expansion was announced in 2018 as well. All this DLC was announced quite a long while after the game's release.
@NoonDragoon Жыл бұрын
@@leonro the Smash fighter pass 2 is a weird example to try and use, because Smash had its first fighter pass announced before the game released. How would they announce a second pass before the first? Snipperclips is not developed by Nintendo. Animal Crossing was announced to be getting consistent DLC updates before the game released. It’s not surprising to get a DLC announcement for that. Splatoon 2 did get it’s announcement later, I forgot about that, but Mario Kart is an extreme outlier in Nintendo’s catalog. Most games don’t get DLC announced 8 years after its initial release.
@leonro Жыл бұрын
@@NoonDragoon Smash pass 2 came as a surprise because it was entirely expected for the DLC to end after the first one, as it would roughly match the DLC of the 3DS/Wii U entry in terms of content. Snipperclips was published by Nintendo and they had quite a bit of involvement in the development process, so it's not unfair to assume that they took part in the decision to release DLC. As for Animal Crossing, I was referring to the paid DLC. It was a first in the franchise, and only free updates were promised. Mario Kart 8 got its 2 DLC packs announced in late 2014 after its release in May of the same year. Deluxe had the DLC arrive much later than its initial release, indeed, but it's still another example of paid DLC coming unannounced. I wouldn't consider it a rule that Nintendo announces DLC before a game releases. If you are unsatisfied, I can further add Luigi's Mansion 3, Captain Toad Switch, Cadence of Hyrule, and the latest Pokémon games.

The stakes wouldn't be too high and i figure it maybe would have a little ship you could control and you'd just sail around to distant islands exploring. Some of the treasures that would be cool to find would be some master ore, or something to temper the master sword to its golden state and just maybe other references throughout the series. Allows players to carry over all materials in their inventory from their previous save file. -More sky islands. -More gloom enemies such as gloom versions of the Hollows from Age of Calamity that resemble the Sages. -One final showdown with Master Kohga after his side adventure has been completed.

Hell, what happened to the Molduking and Igneo Talus Titan from BOTW? Why can't we fight them in TOTK? Also, They could have added more lore that explains what happened to all of the Sheikah Tech from BOTW that is missing in TOTK. If the question is "Does it need DLC?" then I'd say no. The game really felt like a full experience on its own and I can't really think of anything else they could add. It it's simply, "Would I be happy if they had DLC" that would be a Yes, (Maybe a "Master Kohga Returns Thrice" episode...) but like I said I don't think it's needed in the sense that the game didn't feel like it was missing something.

Haven't finished watching yet but here's my LoZ Tears of the Kingdom DLC pitch. First the recycled asset dlc. 1. The deku tree finally does something and invites Link to take part in a new set of zonai themed master trials to boost the master sword's power from 30 to 60 to 90 x2 against evil, a precaution set up by Zelda and devised by the sages incase Link's memory evaded him again when he woke up but deemed unnecessary in the base game as Link retained his memory. 2. Next the pre-end game expansion story dlc. Heroes Redress. CONTAINS SPOILERS. Introduce the new Ganondorf and Zelda Amiibo. In a cutscene: Link hands Mineru's Construct the master sword as he dons the Ancient Hero Aspect armour as requested for a presentation being held at Lookout Landing by Purah and Robbie for a device they believe might be capable of opening a theoretical timegate returning the princess from the past using timestone/zonaite. Mineru recognises Link's Ancient Hero Aspect armour as looking very close to someone she remembers from the imprisoning war who fought against Ganondorf alongside Ruaru, a warrior who suddenly disappeared out of the blue near the climax of the war. She does not get the opportunity to speak to Link before he goes up on stage, instead deciding to wait until the event is over to talk about it. Later, during the science display Purah and Robbie use their time and teleportation research to accidentally re-discover and violently force open a timegate. When the machine malfunctions, Link still wearing the Ancient Hero Aspect shoves everyone off the stage to safety, inadvertently getting himself sucked into the timegate. When the machine explodes it closes the timegate behind Link. When Link wakes up, he is unable to remove the Ancient Hero Aspect armour it is broken somehow but there is no time for that now. A scream from off screen! Monsters are attacking some travellers and Link being a hero wastes no time in saving them. Ever oblivious to the idea of paradoxes, Link learns from the people he just rescued that he is in the past and plans to hand ganondorf his ass in this time to save Zelda from being forced to become a dragon for countless millenia later and prevent the tragic events of the imprisoning war from ever playing out. Then, if there's time, figure out a way home after. All the Hylian's Link encounters wear either variations on the barbarian armour set or zonai armour sets. Pointed in the direction of a monster force's base (a recurring and heavily relied on mechanic for this dlc). After a few encounters with waves of Ganondorf's forces the disguised Link is recruited into the conflict by Queen Sonia having heard of how he has pushed back Ganondorf's forces. Sonia asks disguised Link to take part in battles to save the ancient sage's respective homes which are under attack. Recruit the sages to Sonia and Rauru's cause by defeating waves of monster forces turn the Gerudo Sage against Ganondorf by saving the Gerudo. At every opportunity to talk to Zelda something always conveniently prevents Link from speaking with Zelda or getting too close to her. When all the Sage's homes are saved, Sonia asks to speak with the disguised Link privately. When they are alone Sonia uses Stasis on Link revealing she knew who Link was the entire time and tells him that, unlike Zelda, Link is still tethered to his present by the timegate and his special armour which acts like a kind of time bubble protecting the swordsman from being fixed in the past. Using her time powers Sonia renews statis. Holding her hand over her secret stone with conviction then with a hint of sadness gracefully looking to a half finished depiction of the master sword painted by Zelda and the Purah pad sat on a table nearby, Sonia quietly reveals she knows. Surprising a stasis afflicted Link. Sonia emphasises she knows what must happen for the sake of Hyrule's future, even though it pains her she can not let Link interfere with the timeline. Zelda calls out to Sonia from outside the room, Link unable to move, still locked in stasis, cannot reach or call out to Zelda. Sonia quickly pushes Link back through the timegate that sent him into the past, locking Link out of the end of the imprisoning war. Meaning if you go back after the DLC the timegate will spit link out after Zelda turned into a dragon only able to mop up all of Ganon's disbanded forces. Link lands with a thud in the present nearby to where he got blown into the timegate a ways south of Lookout Landing. A worried Purah, Robbie, and the other sages rush over to Link. Link sits up confused and disappointed he failed to save Zelda again. Though to their eyes Link was only gone for a moment Robbie and Purah breathe a sigh of relief assuming their fixing of their device brought Link back. An idea Link does not dissuade them of. Meanwhile in the past as the timegate closes, Sonia sets a construct to work making the Ancient Hero Aspect armour and instructs the construct to deliver the armour to the Great goddess statue in secret. Sonia is then greeted by Zelda who informs her there is a spy wearing her face somewhere in the castle. Zelda assures Sonia that she has a plan to deal with it. Sonia greets Zelda calmly as if the encounter with Link had never happened and asks about Zelda's scheme to unmask this spy. The screen fades up and out as the two leave the room. Ending the DLC. Roll credits. No depths, no sky map, just a recoloured surface map with a few replaced settlements, npcs, and rebuilt zonai archtecture. Consider it a fourth map where players can farm pristine weapons after the dlc is finished. The player must have already collected the ancient hero aspect and memory tears to start the second dlc. Once started the Ancient Hero Aspect cannot be removed until player finishes the dlc. Protect the timeline Zelda cannot recognise Link or it will mess with the timeline of Totk. Learn that by reverting someone's time, not time itself but that one person's time, to the moment before they swallow the secret stone, you can undo their draconification.

Im glad theyre focusing on the new one. But, while i enjoyed these last 2 games, i do wish a ton they at least take a couple steps back to the original formula. The huge scope meant a lack of focus on dungeons and world character. I want inventive and original dungeons, weird and quirky characters, a new, vibrant and iconic song on each new part of the world which sets the mood, predetermined set pieces, segments of linear exploration. Pretty much i miss a tailored experience straight from the director of the game, instead a choose your own adventures kind of game. I personally just cant see myself going back to hours and hours of running around, exploring caves which are mostly the same, mini dungeons that all look the same, trough mostly generic plains, desert, winter landscapes with a shit ton of stuff to do that distracts and makes me feel guilty not doing when i just want to focus on the main story.

Does it need it? No really. But would it help the game's narrative? Yes. My only issue with the game is that it tries to be a standalone title more so than a sequel, people have fanon answers for how the game goes about itself, like the Sheikah Tech disappearance, Kass disappearance, while his kids and wife act like he doesn't exist, important NPC like Villa are gone too. I feel like they could have done a better job with the characterization of the Ancient Sages, because we hardly know them, names and personalities, plus their cutscenes were copy and pasted perspectives, which people didn't like. If they got a DLC storyline like the Champion's from BotW, where the current sages look into them and we learn more about them, than it would be nicer storytelling for them, right now, they're basically Champion clones, but without any real characterization or substance. Another one is that they don't try to connect Ganondorf with Calamity Ganon very well, only implying stuff with the location of his mummified corpse and added implied info to his bio after you beat the game. But I feel like the emotional depth of Zelda's struggles throughout the game could have been made deeper, if she realized that the reason why she lost the champions, her father and home is that Ganondorf was the root cause of it, making it more personal, but they never got into that either. I feel like they could at least try to add more armor too, since I'm pretty sure the Switch has more space for it and they could add the armor they removed from BotW that people actually liked using for appearance wise.

If there is story DLC besides just say Master/Hero difficulty and trials of the sword, I'd like to see them explore more on Ganondorf. Because for being the big bad of ToTK he's like barely in it. Also they didn't need to tell us the exact same copy-pasted imprisoning war story 5 times.

No buuuuut it wouldve been nice to have the golden enemy type at least
@scarmucci1918 Жыл бұрын
Three things come to mind - especially compared to BotW DLC. Hard mode with gold enemies - or at least give us gold enemies. Trial of the Sword - although I still think this was a misnomer as you never used the Master Sword in the trials. And upgraded Sage abilities ... or at least fix them so they are not such a pain to use and are probably the weakest part of the game ( in fact, I usually have them all turned off once I get them ). Oh and for the hell of it - 8 more shrines so we can have both a full 40 hearts AND a full 3 stamina wheels.

Yes it did ! ...we were told, time and time again, that the new Zelda would "take us to the sky"... sure... from 140 hours, how many do you spend above?. The game is 70-80% down in Hyrule. I honestly thought they were leaving some islands for a DLC! I feel the marketing was misleading for the sake of 'surprise' (the depths).

It's so funny that there was a time when people would complain about there being no DLC especially for nintendo games and now here we are begging for it for TOTK. Although with the likes of TOTK, I think it can be warranted given how you get your money's worth from the base game. But I will say, despite my hate for DLC, I think TOTK is in need of it as it does feel incomplete in some aspects. Like where the hell is master mode? More fleshed out sky islands like the great sky island would be amazing as that's where they game truly shined in my opinion. We could also get more biomes in the caves too which would be real nice. As for the expansion of the story, I don't think Totk's story was honestly any good. But I would LOVE a post game story as we have never gotten the ability to play post game in zelda (unless if you count the oracle games).

I didn't think botw needed DLC but I guess they had more Ideas and they were able to give Link a motorcycle after that they had even more Ideas and made a full on sequel now what Is left? I'm sure you can think of a few like master mode but the team behind the game might feel they did everything they wanted to do

Self indulgent side of me just wants Zelda in a safe place, which is at her home. Ngl its kinda tiring and sad seeing Zelda constantly as a martyr of sort nd what better way to end this era is by seeing her happy as you continue to play. As for materials im pretty sure nintendo can loop ways to get them cause it wouldnt be the first time they wonk with this series' timeline.

3:40 That statement from Aounouma is such a Blatant lie and so wrong that I'm surprised that I haven't found people calling him out online. 10:43 Speak for yourself. I WANTED the story to go the way that it did. 14:09 NO IT DOESN'T The Game opens with the Master Sword being Broken and if you recall the end of Skyward Sword then you would realize the implications and the game literally ends with Zelda stating her goal of finding "Eternal Peace" for Hyrule which if you again recall the end of Skyward Sword then you would realize why that it isn't happening as is potentially setting itself up for a Third Game with a returning Demise.

IMO, TOTK is best if you didn't play BOTW. I came into it expecting to really love a remixed Hyrule to explore that's still largely familiar. I expected it to be sorta like how the Yakuza games can get away with having like 5 games set in the same neighborhood reusing assets as much as possible. Except where the recurrence in Yakuza games breed a familiarity and fondness for the map, TOTK's world ended up feeling watered down to me. I never understood the complaints about Wind Waker's map being too big and empty... but somehow that's how I feel about TOTK's map. Maybe adding more would just make the problem worse.

I just want Master Mode, and maybe a Sword Trial. That's all. It will be sad if I end up playing BotW more than TotK because it doesn't have a harder difficulty or a fun replayable end game challenge. There isn't really a good excuse for Zelda to not have a hard mode/hero mode of some sort anymore.

Do I want DLC? Yes. But TOTK certainly doesn't need DLC and I'm very satisfied with the experience I got. It's 100% a full gameplay experience, even if it is lacking in other things (story, character development, etc). I concluded what I'm considering my first play-through of the game literally last night and watched the secret ending for the first time. I'm ready to move onto new games now. *Spoilers* If we were to get additional content with Zelda TOTK, my dream scenario is to see an accompanying prequel animation or manga project that really dives into Zelda's time in the past and characters like Ganondorf's & Rauru's backstories. Something that would give timeline enthusiasts and Zelda theorists something to chew on. I'm pretty convinced that this Ganondorf is actually the same as OOT Ganondorf as I think the events of Ancient TOTK, BOTW, and TOTK take place in a separate timeline that broke off from Skyward Sword but that's all up to interpretation.

In my opinion Tears of the Kingdom really dropped the ball when it came to the sky, so I figured they were just saving a lot of it for DLC. Don’t get me wrong, the depths and caves and expansions to Hyrule are awesome, but the game promised so much more for the sky and I think they really fumbled it. That’s honestly why I’m most bummed about not getting DLC, TotK would pretty much be a perfect game if they did that but now it’s gonna be a little frustrating knowing how close they were.
@SdudyoyO Жыл бұрын
I put about 80 hours into the game, loved it, beat it -- But I hit a point where I just didn't want to play it anymore. I'd say I did about 25-35%% of the total content, but I'm not a completionist, never cared about doing everything in a game, I play it till I don't want to play it anymore, and it's been close to six years since I hit that point with Breath of the Wild and haven't played that game since, and I doubt I'll ever pick up Tear's of the Kingdom again knowing myself. Even with DLC, there's just nothing more I want from this gameplay style. I'm done. I played Breath of the Wild for close to two hundred hours, and couldn't even manage half of that with TotK despite me enjoying this game more. Honestly, if the next Zelda game plays like Breath of the Wild, even as a lifetime Zelda fan, and have always called it my favorite franchise of all time, I probably will end up skipping it. I've squeezed all the fun I can out of this style, and yet I replay Ocarina of Time every couple of months. Not to suggest that these are bad games, I've just personally had enough of them -- So I'm glad to see them skipping out on the DLC to focus on what's next for the Zelda series. I don't think we'll ever return to the style of my favorite video games of all time, but if they can do something new and interesting with the next game, I'll be excited. I just don't think I'll ever be excited for a Breath of the Wild styled game again.
