Picked up my first ever 1911 today. Excited to run some rounds through it. Love the enduring history of it. It's the same sense I had when I purchased my first lever action rifle. There is a story behind great firearms. It makes owning them all the more satisfying.

The 1911 is one of the easiest to conceal due to its slim profile. The main thing to keep in mind is that very few people are even aware that you are carrying even when open carrying. No one is looking for a gun on you. With a 1911, you’re golden.

He sold me the weapon with 2 -10 round mags and 2-8 round mags and mag holder for $500.00 . I have only owned 1 45 year ago,a old star 45,(looked like and felt like a Colt 1911. Only fired a few rounds out of the rock island and love it. It's a no- nonsense weapon, good accuracy, smooth slide function. I definitely think it's a keep. God bless the 1911. I just recently picked up a SA loaded MC operator in 45. acp, absolutely love it. I carried a Glock 19 for 4 years 365 and was technically a "Glock fan boy". I decided to try the 1911 platform just to see what all the hype was about. Haven't picked up my Glock since. I carry mine in a custom made kydex holster AIWB with no issues in conceal ability or weight. All you need is a good gun belt. IMHO it carries better than my g19 with its slim design.
@TangoPapaWhiskey4 жыл бұрын
I have a SA A-1 loaded, and I have the same experience in terms of concealing it. It has a thinner profile, and it conceals at 3:00 much better than a G19 on my person, even with the 5" barrel. An 8 round magazine with a spare 8-10 round magazine has never made me feel "under gunned" for EDC in the US of A. I like how well I shoot it, I like the external safeties and I like the performance of .45 acp.

The modern produced 1911’s would be considered a Cadillac in the 1920’s, 30’s,40’s,50’ and 1960’s. They worked good back then but now with CNC machining it’s hard to get it wrong at this point. I have a Springfield loaded model and a Rock Island in black duracoat. My 1911’s work flawlessly, they cycle everything and I keep them clean and use gun grease. I do install 18.5lb chrome silicone recoil springs in them and add a Wilson combat magazine catch in stainless steel because they hold the magazines tighter in the gun. I own a few flocks and a few stainless 357 revolvers, they are usually carried in addition to one of my 1911’s. The 45acp out of a 5 inch is a devastating defense caliber unlike the 357, 44 magnum, or 40sw. I used my 1911 twice in defense and it’s was absolute. I prefer a stainless version of any gun tho for ease of maintenance.

I had a Taurus 1911. It never jammed once. Granted, I only put a few hundred rounds through it. But, it ran and was easy to shoot. The 1911 that was used in trials in 1911 was fired for hundreds, probably thousands, of rounds. It never failed. They got it hot enough that they couldn't hold it. They let it cool and continued shooting.

I carried a 5" SR1911 aiwb for a while; it is heavy, but it's very slim and the grip is very, very small and concealable compared to a Glock or Beretta. It's surprising how "delicate" and small the grip is, but it is still from the early 20th century. We most likely add things like memory bump grip safeties, magazine baseplates, extended safeties and beavertails to make a smallish early 20th century grip fit a slightly larger average hand size without modding the grip from its original dimensions. At least it's a theory. That said the 1911 has the easiest to conceal grip out of every not-pocket handgun I own. But it is still heavy, I am lazy, and Glocks are just fine.

The 1911 isn't a bad design. The trouble is some manufacturers. With 1911s, it's all about attention to details. Those manufacturers don't do hand fitting during final assembly.

I daily a 1911 New Agent because of how slim and comfortable it is. Sure, tactically my G19 or FNX are probably better choices, but at the end of the day there is something to say about having a "nice" carry piece that just feels right and encourages you to carry. A 1911's unique selling point is it's feel, just like a Glock's is reliability, and if that feel is enough to get me to wear it when taking out my trash "for only a minute or two" that's enough. Sure, 7+1 is smaller than 15+1, but it's a damn sight bigger than 0.

I always, from the time I started shooting, had my sights set on a 1911, seems to me out was a mark of having "made it there". Thank you for your service, my son is one of your brothers. Semper Fi!

Great Video and you are on POINT! 1911 pistols are not for novice or even intermediate shooters pistol. With 1911s being made in more calibers now days from 22 LR-50 GI and they can get the job done no matter what the job is. There are a lot of misconceptions about the 1911 specially from the Vietnam Era Veterans that were using WWI and WWII 1911s and those who came after them all the way up to 1985 when we switched to the M9 pistol. By the early 80s the frames and slides were so out of spec that you could not hit the broadside of a barn but Marksmanship units from all the services were taking trips to the arsenals and taking 500 1911 pistols to get enough parts so they could put 10-20 National Match Grade pistols with the addition of NM Barrels and a few other parts. It used to take a very expensive Gunsmith to take a Colt 1911 pistol to make it reliable and accurate but those days are LONG GONE! Every major manufacturer makes a 1911 pistol and some are better than others. For Example: SIg GSR 1911 pistols that was made from Caspian Frames and Slides, not sure the barrels and parts from a few different manufactures from overseas and the pistol was a DISASTER! But then SIg got the machinery to build the Frames, Slides and Barrels and other parts from Cylinder and Slide and they came out with the Sig Blackwater 1911 pistol and AWESOME pistol that later was renamed the Sig TacOps 1911 and I own one and had been nothing but a Joy to Shoot with ZERO malfunctions in over 1400 rounds of ball and JHPs. I currently own 4 1911s 2 SIgs the TacOps 45acp and 22LR, Springfield Armory Loaded and Mil-Spec that I customized using the USMC MEU SOC pistol parts list and Specifications. RIght now I have my eye on the Sig 220R5 10mm Legion but after that my next 1911 is going to be a Commander Size 1911 and Ruger makes a real neat one that comes with original Novak night sights. The great thing about the 1911 is that as long as you are shooting the same caliber you can use the same magazines. John M. Browning designed the 1911 to shoot the 45acp and then Colt in the mid to late 50s come up with the Commander which was originally designed to shoot 9mm but was then adjusted to shoot 45acp. RIght now SIg for example is making fullsize 1911 in 22LR, 45acp, 10mm and 357SIG Ruger is making Commander 1911s in 9mm and 45acp, and Springfield is making a very Cool USMC Operator and EMP in 9 and 40. I carry my TacOps most of the time nowadays since it has the Rail and I have a TLR-1 HL 800 lm weaponlight and Crimson Trace Laser Grips but I do break out the Loaded once in awhile in either a Shoulder holster or IWB. The best attribute of the 1911 is the Accuracy and the Best Trigger pull of any other handgun. Just my 2 cents.

Its funny how people will develop a love or hate for a particular platform 1911, Glock, AK, AR. I have always had an open mind and done my own research and have been lucky enough to have been at the right place at the right time to try out many different firearms.

It has an over 100 year track record which speaks for itself. Modern pistols have its legacy to fill. It needs to protectors. It stands on its own.

Where has this channel been all my life. I just bought myself a cool 1911. Its a rock island but I still like it, very reliable as my first 1911. First 45 and i’m a pretty good shot with it. I’d sooner cc with it than my SR9
