Hello, Hello Fidelity! I'm Nick, the guy who created the Squeaky Clean MK3 and I would love to share this video if it's ok with you. Very fair review of my system and everyone should know that I include the wetting agent to make a gallon of the London Jazz Collector formula from drugstore quality water and alcohol. I agree the household shop-vac is loud, you can also use it to clean your car or your cat's litter box when you're not cleaning records (try that with a Okki Nokki )

London Jazz Collector recipe is fantastic... To clean I use the sure-line edging tools ( paint edging tool) and they have thousands of tiny soft mohair filaments that really get into the grooves so much so I use no pressure and the sureline tracks around the record itself. I vacuum that off using one vac utensil I made then do a rinse with distilled water using another sure-line edging tool for that and then a final vacuum and it works great.. And as others have noted I lay the cleaned side down on a different microfibre to that which the uncleaned side sat on.

I have a very simple set up similar to MK and tried L'Art du Son cleaner concentrate and I use a small microfiber brush going back and forth ,rinse with distilled water ,vacuum dry and the sound results are great .. I have not used many different brands of fluid but I think the L'Art du Son cleaning fluid made the big difference and maybe you should give that brand a try ...

I’ve had and used my Squeaky clean for years and I’m very happy with it. I guess I’m accustomed to using shop vacs around the house and used to the noise. Plus most probably play their records louder LOL

Both of the presented products are a total waste of money. A Knosti Disco Antistat costs approx EUR 60,- and cleans just as good. I’ve been using mine for over 15 years and have never been dissapointed.

Great video. I have owned an Okki Nokki machine for several years, and I find that the goat hair brushes do a great job at spreading fluid onto the record; they don't do a great job of scrubbing the record. I have found that using a cleaning pad such as the one sold by Mofi performs better with scrubbing. I also do a quick rinse with distilled water after to clean away any of the cleaning solution that might have been left behind. I really enjoyed your video!

One thing missing? I feel the technique of "how" you scrub the records makes all the difference I feel you must scrub with the brush much longer IMO and bristles should go against the grooves so as to scoop out debris and suspend in the solution. I have done similar tests and tests with ultrasonic record cleaners and now just use a nitty gritty vacuum record cleaner. I use a self made record solution with 2% denatured alcohol, 7% surfactant (rinse agent or wetting agent for dishwashers) and 5% industrial photography detergent with the remaining being distilled water without minerals. After scrubbing one record twice on both sides I use distilled water with 1% surfactant to rinse the grooves then vacuum and air dry. This is a technique I've found works well and under microscope leaves near zero residue. Also I would have you check out level 42's debut album.....excellent!

I like your testing procedure here, trying to keep things as equivalent as possible. For what it's worth, I have found that circular agitation/scrubbing does help a bit to flush the fluids into the grooves better. The Liquinox dilution, Ilfotol dilution, and 2 rinse passes, each cleaning stage with at least 1 minute of agitation (more for really nasty records) is a huge win. I stopped using my DIY ultrasonic setup when it proved to simply be faster and more effective to use these solutions on the Okki Nokki directly. One other nice thing about the Ilfotol solution is reduced static charge build-up from vacuuming.

I am very sorry, but, although the squeaky-clean is quite a good idea,, but for 250 dollars, I can get an Ultrasonic cleaner for 4 Records at once! And there is no comparison between ultrasonic cleaning and a vacuum cleaner! Sorry, but more than 50,- is not a reasonable price, and this product sadly will disappear from the market at 250D... I know how much work it is to come from the idea to a sellable product, but there is also the thing of diminishing returns of a product. And here, the summit is estimated at 50 bucks...

I agree. I'm not going to work as hard as that and spend as much time as that on each and every LP I have. That's ridiculous for the less than stellar results. I'll will however spend a few more dollars above the Squeaky Clean machine's going price and get something ultrasonic. A little more money gets you a LOT more in cleanliness and ease of use.

Great video! I'm curious if the solution has an impact on how much gunk is removed from the grooves. I have the squeaky clean and use a mixture of Groovinator solution mixed with distilled water but it's a hassle to store and handle. Looking for a more handy (and quiet!) solution hahaha. It seem like the Okki Nokki One is quieter than the Squeaky Clean. Am I right?
@hellofidelity
@hellofidelity 2 жыл бұрын
The Okki Nokki One is *much* quieter than the Stinger Vac I use with the SqueakyClean. I always wear ear protection with the SqueakyClean, whereas with the Okki I usually skip wearing ear protection.

About the solution, and what does the best job getting dirt out of the grooves, there is a really detailed manual on record cleaning, Google for "Precision Aqueous Cleaning of Vinyl Records 3rd edition"
@packgrog
@packgrog Жыл бұрын
I have an older Okki Nokki (the better German-built ones with the metal vacuum tube). I previously used a KAB EV-1 manual RCM very much like the Squeaky Clean, but with the vacuum nozzle on the underside. Both machines are equally effective, but the Okki Nokki is a *LOT* more enjoyable and less tedious to use. I have also used ultrasonic cleaning which can also be helpful for grit, but ultimately what makes the most difference is the cleaning solution, agitation, and time. The "Precision Aqueous Cleaning of Vinyl Records 3rd edition" suggestion is spot on, but the easiest summary would be to get Ilfotol, mix 10ml of it into 1 liter of distilled water, use that as a cleaning solution, then do one or two passes of distilled water rinse and vacuum (it MUST be rinsed). That alone is more effective than any pre-mixed solution that I used previously, as well as more effective than ultrasonic alone. Better pre-cleaning would be a similar dilution of Liquinox (10ml to 1 liter water), then clean with the Ilfotol dilution, then rinse. It's tedious (making motorized RCMs like the Okki Nokki a real benefit), but it works extremely well.

Nice video. I had a Project machine but it leaked on me then they gave me an up grade but that started sounding louder then a jet taking off so they gave me another one and on the third machine it was still did the same. So I ended up buying a VPI machine. I really liked the project machine only because the it grabbed just on the label like yours!! Unfortunately my VPI machine does not do that & that's a nice feature to have.. As a machinist I tried the mount the other clamp on there so it could just grab on the label but the shaft on the motor was not high enough for the clamp to grab..

My question is, except for proving a base and a brush, how different is the Squeaky Clean from the Vinyl Vac? It seems to me to be essentially the same thing. Yes, it’s nice that SC provides those extras that the VV doesn’t. But is that worth the large price difference? Thank you for posting this video. It’s good to see how different products compare with one another!!!

HI, very nice review, subscribed. I used the Okki Nokki One for three years now with an exeptional effectivness in cleaning records and i have some suggestions for you: 1) use the large platter, 2) the most important thing is how to use the brush: you have been too gentle; push the brush with a certain (good) pressure against the record (this is why you need the larger platter) and keep it firm until you feel the friction force of the record, wich tries to bring your brush away. And don't worry, you'll not damage your record, you're only cleaning in in depth. 3)Very important: before putting the fluid on the record, do a dry pass with the vacuum on it, to suck away all the dust (it does it). Happy cleaning ! 😁

I have cleaned some thousands of LP's with cold water, dish washing liquid (not the cream Ivory type) and a cotton ball, then rinse with cold water, stand on towel to air dry. Try this before blowing money on the next "it" cleaning device. If you have good quality public drinking water, you do not need distilled water.
