Hey all! I've been wanting to make this video for a long time, but I knew I needed to patiently wait until it would be a good review for y'all. The most important question with a down jacket is how well does it last. So I put this bad boy through the paces for the last few years and am here to tell you how it holds up.
Everything else I'm up to:

@@BrentMorris me too, I just purchased it with your 3 year review as a tipping point in my decision. Have you experienced any wet outs from body moisture or ambient moisture, and how do you dry it? Thank you for seriously giving us a long term review, as they are hard to come by. Anyone can do a review on a BRAND NEW ITEM, bit road worn reviews are the true gems, especially when HONEST! 👍
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. As far as wet outs go how I deal with them depends on where I’m at. If I’m at a place with a dryer then I’ll dry it on low heat with dryer balls/tennis balls to dry it out and fluff it up. If I’m in the woods I wring it out the best I can and hang it in my tent or car to dry, and I just don’t pack it down until it is dry. But usually I just try my best to avoid them by wearing a shell, or if I’m getting hot enough to soak it myself I just take it off until I cool down.

Great thoughts! I bought the ‘21 version at an outlet recently. I’m kinda paranoid since hearing a lot of concerns about it’s durability. You seem to put that to bed, but I’ve heard so many people say it’s incredibly fragile face. How’s yours holding up?
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris Жыл бұрын
Still no issues with mine. It’s incredibly durable for a lightweight product, but obviously the all round or severe ones are more durable, but you trade off with weight/packability. Like my Thorium is a much thicker fabric so I know it’s tougher, but this is a great version of what it is. I find people that have complained about its durability expect it to be an SV, but that’s unrealistic. 🤷‍♂️ I don’t know if that helps or not

Thanks for the great review! Have you used it in medium intensity activities at all? How is the insulation holding up with some sweating? Trying to decide wether I go Atom LT or Cerium LT to use as winter jacket (paired with a beta LT) up in Canada.
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve been on loads of hikes like that. With some sweating it’s fine. There’s enough insulation that it still works well. You just don’t want to get it soggy lol 😂 but unless you’re racing somewhere you can always take a minute to let your body cool down.

Can you also wear this jacket in spring? Upto what temperature would you wear this jacket with just a T-shirt (minimal activity) and without feeling too hot? Trying to find a good jacket that covers many seasons. Thanks!
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
I mean that’s too subjective for someone to give an accurate response because everyone and their response to heat, cold, and activity is so different. It is definitely meant for colder weather, all down jackets are, but I will start bringing it out when temperatures are around 50°F/10°C and below. But my wife wouldn’t even consider a down jacket until it’s like 25°F/-4°C. But you should try one on and then you’d be able to get a great idea for where it would work for you.

Did you make any expirience with rain does the down take damage from that? Or should I always wear a Gore-Tex shell above the Cerium? Thank you!
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris Жыл бұрын
It can handle light rain, but you’ll want a shell for heavier rain. If you do get caught in the rain just get the jacket dried off very thoroughly and you’ll be fine. Down can’t keep you warm when it’s soaking wet.

Hi Brent, How is the puffiness in the antecubital areas on your cerium LT jacket? I've had my cerium LT jacket for only few months and those areas are way flatter than other areas.I've washed my jacket using specific down detergent, and dried them at low heat with tennis balls for long hours, but it seems those areas stayed flat compare to other areas. Thanks!
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve not had an issue with them flattening permanently. They’ll flatten when I’m out and bending my arms at the elbow to take photos or whatever, but when I come back home I hang the jacket up and everything puffs back up like it should. One issue you could be having is the down shifting inside its pocket. That can happen in places where bending happens often. But you can tell this by feeling a pocket and seeing if there is significantly more mass on one side than the other. If that’s happening and it bothers you, then you can pinch the down and move it around to the other side.

@@BrentMorris Down migration seems to be the issue with my cerium LT, where there's significant mass of down in the elbow area. I tried to push it back to the front but gave up since it doesnt seems to work. Has down migration ever happened to your Cerium LT? I really like this down jacket due to veing light wait while being really warm, but i just wish Arc'teryx would improve those folding areas to prevent down migration. They could add seams just along the elbow area ( 3 bars ) to keep the feathers in the antecubital area. Thanks for the reply, Brent!

It has in small amounts, but never so much as I felt it was an issue. It never impacted the warmth I felt while wearing it. Plus everything always seems to reset after washing and drying the jacket using the process Arc’teryx recommends on their website.

Can you mention something about washing? Roughly how many times in 3 years did you wash and how? I’m worried that after washing all the down feather will lump together. Thanks!
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
I followed the directions from Arc’teryx directly. How to wash and care for your Down garment: Down relies on air between its clusters to retain warmth. When the face fabric of your garment becomes dirty, body oils and dirt attract water which can then transfer into the down, causing it to clump. Without the pockets of air between the down clusters, the garment loses its insulation properties. Down is best washed only as necessary. To maintain performance, wash your garment when it shows signs of dirt or sweat, or the down is starting to lose loft or clump. When possible, it is best to use a cleaning agent made specifically for technical down products. We recommend: Arc’teryx Nu Care Products ReviveX® Down Cleaner Grangers® Down Wash Fibertec Down Wash Nikwax Down Wash Direct STEP ONE | PREPARE FOR WASHING Close the main and pit zippers. Open pocket zippers. Release tension on all elastic drawcords. Loosen and secure the cuff Velcro®. Front load washing machines are recommended; however, if you have a washing machine with an agitator (top loader), putting your garment inside a mesh bag will help protect it. STEP TWO | WASH Put your garment in the machine, add cleaning agent and wash on medium heat (40°C/104°F) at permanent press or gentle cycle settings. Double rinsing is recommended. STEP THREE | RE-APPLY DWR (IF NECESSARY) If the face fabric of your garment no longer beads water, even after it has been washed and dried, it is time to re-apply DWR. Remove your garment from the machine and shake off excess water. Close all zippers. Hang it and spray DWR on the face fabric, concentrating on high-wear areas. STEP FOUR | DRY Turn your garment inside out, lay it on a flat surface and remove excess moisture by gently pressing on it with a clean towel. Place your garment in the dryer on low heat (permanent press cycle) with two “dryer balls” or clean tennis balls to prevent the down from clumping and to help it regain its loft. It will be necessary to periodically turn your garment inside out throughout the cycle to help it dry properly. Down must be completely dried before storing to avoid clumping or mold. Be prepared for the process to take upwards of three hours. arcteryx.com/us/en/help/product-care

Great info, thanks for this, how is the fit of the jacket, I normally wear xl in jackets 6foot 1 200 pounds, how would you grade the sizing and fit for the jacket you purchased, thanks man Joe
@BrentMorris
@BrentMorris 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! Fit wise it’s cut well, but slimmer than like an Arc’teryx Beta AR. I’m guessing because they expect people to wear them under stuff. But I’m 6’3” and 225. I wear an XL in the Beta AR, but I had to get an XXL to have this one fit like it does, and I’ve found that infinitely more comfortable to me at least. I hope that helps!
