Dr. Sandy Richter is currently the The Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont college and the author of many books including one of my favorite books on the Old Testament, The Epic of Eden. Sandy has an MDiv from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a PhD from Harvard University. This podcast episode is a recording of Sandy’s scintillating talk and conversation at least year’s “Exiles in Babylon” conference.

Dr. Sandy Richter is a brilliant teacher whose passion for God is obvious! I appreciate her bravery addressing such challenging question! My understanding of God’s view of women in the Old Testament have forever changed! Thank you Dr. Richter!

This gives me hope. I am nearly 50 and I have lived most of my life thinking women are 'second rate cirizens' in some ways and that God wills it to be this way. It's painful to have that belief and try to trust God. Now I am starting to look at my relationship with God differently. Thank you.

You just have to remember, it's her choice to shame and disgrace herself. I don't mean that personally. It is not ambiguous what the Bible says about women in ministry, and sugar coating the scripture is a growing culture unhitching itself from the Bible. It definitely confirms that it doesn't matter how many degrees and different Bibles and different languages they've read them in, Gods word is final, and so will be His judgement, on the final day.

she made a great point about not being allowed on the platform but the membership truly loved God- and loved her-----that does not always happen--if a woman shows gifting in "forbidden " areas or even claims to be egalitiarian, she is called names, her salvation disapdraged---no love of God shown to her at all.

Absolutely brilliant! And, during the question and answer segment when she gives a sound bite on Genesis 1:27, tears! Adonai love for women captured so beautifully, clearly...

She said that in Genesis 2 Yahweh is "MIMICKING a Babylonian and Egyptian animation ritual by which the pagans animated their idols, and that's what Yahweh is doing as He crafts us from the dirt..." Yahweh mimicked something that had not yet occurred. 🤔 WHAT?

I've read through some of Dr. Richter's work while doing my thesis. It was a rigorous piece of scholarship, but sometimes a bit dry. I am so delighted to see how engaging she is as a live speaker.

Ask her about the Judge/Prophet Deborah in Judges Chapters 4 and 5. Defeating the Canaanite king was kind of important. 😊

I have SO much respect for her response to the complimentarian / egalitarian question at the end. One of the most balanced and well thought out responses I’ve ever heard.
