One Thanksgiving tradition is sitting down after the big meal and getting really sleepy, but is it really the tryptophan from the turkey that makes you drowsy? @andyberkowskimd of ReLACS Health assesses the role tryptophan may play in drowsiness and sleep and then goes over the real reasons you might get drowsy after your Thanksgiving feast.
In this video, we cover:
- how tryptophan can relate to chemicals that affect sleep
- some of the studies showing the effect of tryptophan on sleepiness
- the plausibility of tryptophan in turkey meat causing drowsiness
Then we will address causes of sleepiness particular to Thanksgiving including:
- sleep deprivation
- poor sleep quality
- stress and/or excitement for the holiday
- alcohol consumption
- blood sugar and insulin levels
and even the impact of @andyberkowskimd's team, The Detroit Lions! @detroitlionsnfl
