From what I saw, it looked like the mice and rats actually preferred your hot pepper and seeds mash. The hot mash was on the left, correct? Plus, a lot of the ring of fire pepper pieces were gone in the morning. The rodents had to have eaten them. It makes me give a sympathetic laugh thinking about all the tiny little rodent butt-holes on fire the next morning. Maybe you need to run your experiment for several days to see if the rodents get educated about the science of cause & effect and stop eating the peppers? It would be interesting to see the results. Good experiment, I thought it would work. We had a small area in our yard that all the local cats had decided to use as a bathroom. I tried putting in plants, they dug them up, tried coyote urine, didn't bother them. The one thing that worked was dusting the whole area with hot chili powder. But it wasn't permanent, one good rain and they were back. We finally just paved it.

It's a lot easier to clean and disinfect your hands then it is to get all the pepper oils off of your hands. I'll scrub my hands with mechanics soap after chopping up hot peppers and I'll rub my eye the next day and still get some burn in my eyes. You learn to get really good at holding the stem while cutting them to avoid this.
