Re: Why NFC instead of Bluetooth Answer is better security. Using Bluetooth to unlock your car means that someone several car rows away from you can be secretly listening in on the electronic car key transmissions trying to hack in. With NFC ("Near" Field Communication) there would have to be a listening device so 'near' that you would have to move it out of the way to open the door. To those who might say 'well it is all encrypted anyway' as a cyber security threat researcher I will point out that you should never rely on a single element to protect you as you never know when a flaw in it will be found. Combing completely different types of security is definitely best and here you will hopefully still have encrypted electronic transmission with ideally key codes changing everytime plus the effectively physical aspect of almost direct contact being needed.

It even is on same drivecomfort, suspension level as Model X( lke P7 better). It is an insanely good car to drive, very fun, with lots and lots of tech inside. The interior is much better than Tesla, so is general buildquality. Autodriving or the level we are allowed to have in Norway is same level, maybe I like it slightliy better, but the autoparkingsystem is second to none, Tesla is not even close. P7 keep getting better and better and car improves all the time via OTA, that affect all the components in the car. The car is simply Stunning. Some downsides for some people there is: ( no car is perfect:)-No automatic tailgate, no autonmatic high beam assist ( which will be fixed in an update), no heat in steering wheel and no draghook (and other minor stuff, which updates will fix). As an early tesla shareholder from the ipo days, in my opinion this is the first real potential competition that I have seen. Straight up copying Tesla, but this is what they have to do to survive and vertical integration is critical to compete on pricing. Tesla is years ahead of them and anyone else, but for the price point I think the P7 is the most compelling electric car I have seen from anyone else. Value to price being the important metric.

GB standard is short for "GuoBiao" which means national standard. And the Chinese national standard is based on the current NEDC test standard. So you are correct to assume that's NEDC mileage for model 3

XPENG has possibly a winner with the P7. This car has, design and spec wise, everything needed to succeed on the EU market (and of course their local market). They should avoid the biggest pitfalls which apparently plagues every Tesla model: an utterly flawed reliability topped with a high maintenance cost and poor fit and finish.

Teslabjorn tested the Xpeng G3, and the tech seems to be really god. It parked by itself! Of course Tesla has an advantage in having a lot of cars on the road. But this is not just a competition among electric cars, but also involving gas powered cars. We really need more good electric cars, and Xpeng really looks promising.

Charger infrastructure is one more huge category where Tesla wins by a long shot. Even if Tesla lost by many points I would still choose the supercharger network over anything out there as of 2020.

I still read articles that say, Dyson couldn't make £150,000 SUV and Tesla thinks it can sell a Cybertruck (they thought it was an SUV not a truck) for $70,000 as it's top of the line car. Called it snake oil and praised the BMW i3 (not the i4) and the Nissan Leaf. Saying Tesla is selling at a loss. When I know that Tesla is approaching the highest profit margins per car of any car at 20% profit while others are between 5% and 10% I plan on never buying a car made from a company that ever made internal combustion engines. So any Tesla, electric meccanica solo, Sondors, or Aptera. Whichever one I can afford first.

Enjoyed the debate. Only ust found out about XPeng after someone sent a pic of a P7 in Suzhou China. Exciting times, but here in UK there Tesla v everyone else. No matter how good and the P7 is a car that would convince me to go full EV rather then PHEV currently. Because our charging infrastructure is woeful for all the other EVs. 4 years when I change hopefully plenty you cheaper EV and infrastructure.

It's always hard to compare range figures over different range cycles. You're correct that a conversation number is about 1,4 but that's on average. Every car is unique. With a boxy small EV the conversion number is higher since they are very inefficient on the highway but a low sleek car like the xpeng surely has a lower conversion number. The xpeng long range has a battery of about 66 kWh. The sr+ has about 52 kWh. The sr+ is problems slightly more efficient. Maybe 10 percent. So I would say that the xpeng EPA race m range is probably around 460 km or 283 miles.
@ramblerandy23974 жыл бұрын
That Xpeng P7 is super cute looking and impressive. But how I wish Sony would make that engineering concept. More of an everyday look with almost perfect electric car proportions. We need more great looking EVs. Tesla can't do all by themselves, even though they're giving it their very best effort.

Autopilot price will go up $1,000 as of July 1st 😕 I wanted to buy after summer when hopefully the economic situation would give a bit more sense of stability and I dared to let go of some money... I just don’t see this pricing strategy work for regular car owners that have no interest in using their Tesla as a taxi. Other manufacturers are getting up to pace fast.

I guess I don’t see the Xpeng dash as “minimalist,” like the Model 3, and I’m glad! The main thing stopping us from buying a Model 3 or Y is the single screen. I’m like ... “Weird, but fine, whatever; I’ll take it,” but my wife says, “it looks like a PC sitting on a temp-employee desk!” I agree with her that it looks like they designed a gorgeous, sleek, dashboard, and then realized at the last minute that they need displays and controls. Whoops! So they tacked on a screen dangling off a stiletto heel, rather than being designed into the dashboard from the start. If it were just me though, I’d buy a Model Y, but the Xpeng looks a lot more ... intentional ... in its dashboard design.

Hi Ben, NEDC is the OLD European standard, WLTP is the latest version, both are not as accurate as the EPA version, sadly China still insists on using the very out of date NEDC data.

One point you didn't raise Ben, is that Tesla & Xpeng are in a legal argy bargy & have been for some time. A Tesla employee downloaded some proprietary information and aledgedly took it with him upon moving to work for Xpeng. I'm not completely sure but I think it had something to do with Autopilot/FSD software; can't remember the exact details. This has been going on for @ least 18 months if not longer.

Chinese EV's caught up real quick to Tesla. Xpeng P7 is more stylish (screens more integrated, don't look like large IPads, interior and exterior of car very nice), affordable, with better software than Tesla's sedans. If Nio can do the same (create a better quality more affordable Sedan than Tesla) they will easily dominate the Chinese EV market. The first EV company that can create a long-range, stylish/artistic, EV with good software for under $30,000 wins my money. XPeng P7 comes closest atm.

Every electric vehicle, unless it's used as a local commuter car, is left in the dust by all of the Tesla vehicles due to one single fact: the Tesla supercharger network. It's what makes Tesla vehicles the best EVs to own and a direct replacement for a gasoline vehicle.

1) The Chinese product is vaporware; 2) the Chinese product doesn't perform as well, and probably doesn't handle or brake as well as either; 3) the Chinese product has no supercharging network; 4) it's an open question how much of the Chinese product is actually stolen intellectual property. And if you add all those things up, it's not even close. Come on Ben!

Well now that the Han is out as well you could do a 3 way comparison .. it's getting tough for the M3 unless they plan on getting the price down, now for the same price you could get a longer range P7 or a better performance Han and both have better interiors than the Tesla, more useable tech for the local market, better back seat space, etc ...

Interesting for sure.... the P7 however will only be made for the Chinese markets. Not sure why not as I think they could do quite well.

The cars would be about equal...except for: superchargers. The supercharger network is currently the "killer app" when it comes to electric cars. Until public charging infrastructure gets up to speed with Tesla's SCs there's always going to be that. (Except for the low-range EVs that are aimed towards commuting/shopping exclusively and have no need of SCs...but the P7 is clearly also aimed at people who do longer drives).
