Does This Carbon CX-5 Have More Equipment than The Premium

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 Premium may actually have less equipment than this CX-5 Carbon Edition. This specific Premium has the Bose and Power Liftgate credits that remove that equipment. The Carbon Edition still has the power liftgate.
Both of these vehicles have 19" wheels, full leather interior, power seats, heated seats, and moonroof. The Premium is $1405 more than this Carbon Edition. Other than the liftgate difference, it adds Signature LED lighting with adaptive function, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, Mazda Intelligent drive (MI-Drive) including sport and off-road modes, and heated power mirrors (which I forgot to mention in the video).

Recently got a 2023 CX-5 CE and it has the bose system AND the power lift gate. The sales person said 3 CEs had just arrived few days back and all 3 had the power lift gate. We were lucky enough to one of the 3. We had already accepted that the CE wouldn't come with the powerlift gate and bose so we went with the purchase anyway but the sales person surprised us after we signed the paperwork. Mazda really does a nice job of giving the luxury feel with their interior design without breaking the bank. Love my CE!

I've read on various forums about Mazda motorized liftgates opening at random while the vehicle is just sitting about, so watch out. The hatches are so small & light on both the CX-30 & CX-5 that a motorized liftgate is just arbitrary tech bloat anyway. One more thing to have problems & need repair. I'm glad that my 2022 CX-30 Carbon doesn't have that, engine start/stop or cylinder-deactivation for that matter. Keep it simple is my motto.

I have the jet black Micah premium with power lift Gate. At the time inventory was super scarce. My first choice was actually the 2.5 Turbo in Machine Grey and CE as my 2nd choice.

Carbon Edition all the way. I own a 2021 CE Turbo and I love it. I had a GT Reseve and traded it in because I love the color and red interior. Thank you for keeping the CX5 alive when CX50 might be the new model of choice. Did either of the cars in the video have turbo or over head display?

You’re welcome! CX5 is still the car. CX50 has been a slower to be built. Neither of these have the turbo or heads up. They don’t offer Carbon in the turbo any longer 😢

CX-5 Premium vs. Preferred is now a difficult choice. Losing the Bose and the Power Liftgate really devalues the Premium over the Preferred. 19" Wheels, full LED & Adaptive Lights, and upgraded Instrument Cluster are the differences

I’d go for the carbon with power liftgate. Also the black mica is a standard paint, poly carbon is unique. And I love the red leather.

@@JSS Hi Jonathan, I commented to you some time ago on the problem of power tailgate being discontinued on the 2022 CX5 Preferred, and the paltry $160 credit. The power liftgate was important due to our aging and strength. Going to the Premium Plus for thousands more dollars just to obtain the power liftgate would’ve been crazy though, so we went ahead, hoped for the best, and reserved a Preferred. We’ve had it a couple of weeks now, and just wanted you to know that apart from the missing Bose and power liftgate, it’s been a joy to drive it, load it up with all sorts of stuff we take around for homeless veterans and other people in need, and it drives just great. (BTW, ours is from Nelson Mazda in OK!) Just wanted you to know that in spite of all my racket and “righteous indignation,” we are happy with the car. If we ever can’t manage the liftgate, I’ll give you a call! 😉 💪

After binge watching your videos for a year I finally got mind last weekend. I'm very happy with it. My only issue is there is no Sirius in the Select. Which should be standard in a $30,000 vehicle. I chose the Select because of the chip shortage. Maybe in a few years I can upgrade.

Thank you for your support! Congratulations! The XM modules have been limited also, however there was always weird allotment of satellite radio on the Mazda lineup. If you have account on another vehicle, you can stream Bluetooth with the XM app

The inner tail light not illuminating on the Carbon Edition and other lower trims is a dealbreaker for me. Not sure if the signature inner tail light part is plug and play like it is for the 2017-202s, as that would be a good solution. I'm currently in the process of upgrading my 2017 Sport with the Grand Touring lights. Great informative video

I would and did choose the Premium over the Carbon Edition. I have a 2022 in Snowflake white pearl metallic, my favorite color with the black leather interior. The polymetal gray is probably my least favorite of the Mazda colors so for that reason alone I would never choose the Carbon Edition. The machined silver and black wheels on the Premium I think are also way more attractive than the rather plain black wheels on the Carbon Edition. The off-road driving setting on the Premium, which splits torque fifty-fifty between the front and rear axles and limits wheel slip, is great to have in snowy or icy conditions, I live in New England. The adaptive headlights and all LED lights on the Premium look classier than the Carbon Edition. The other additional equipment such as the larger digital gauge cluster, paddle shifters and heated side view mirrors, again great in the winter, I think make the Premium a much more attractive choice!

The display also goes along w the Mi drive. The Offroad mode is pretty sweet if you see some of the videos on it. Another Premium option is the heated mirrors and the illuminated turn signals on them.

Without the Bose audio, I see no reason to get the Premium trim over the Carbon Edition, unless you don't like the Polymetal Gray. I have a Carbon Edition CX-30 and love the gray with the red leather.

We got the 2023 Carbon Edition in Poly Metal Grey with turbo, Bose sound system and all the bells and whistles. We get 29.8 mpg. Heated back seats and front memory seats. Too much options to list. Waaay better than the other one.

I thought the Signatures were supposed to have painted wheel wells instead of the black plastic clading? Wireless car charger on both? Both have no charge for paint color? No pano roofs on CX5 yet, and no wireless chargers on these. Signature and Turbo have painted cladding. No charge for paint on these two.

I have a 2021 Carbon Ed that I really enjoy ! ,but my only dislike is the stiff suspension. Before that, I had a 2019 Mazda 3 Premium that total... I'm still mad about that! I say that say... what about passengers?, because they also can feel the bumps in the road. New suspension or wheel down grade to "17 coming soon. Your thoughts because I respect your opinions.

Suspension is pretty much the same. Do you think it’s the difference in wheel size causing the rougher ride?

Its not the size of the rims its the thickness of the tires that usually causes rough rides vs smooth. The CEs come with 55R19 tires. I have another car(not a mazda) with 45R18, the ride on that car is much stiffer even though rims are 1 inch smaller. It is the number before the R that makes the difference, the higher the number the smoother the ride. Hope that helps.

@kenfloyd1032 Personally, although the 19 look good, I think I'm going to switch out for the "17 wheels myself. I'm confused myself that's it's for a little off-road but has big rims and a stiff suspension. That's more for street driving.

Carbon CX-5 looks better than the Premium, but I hate how Mazda fails at DRL design/implementation on their CX-5 Carbon (& most other vehicles) & just turns the main projector headlight into an unsightly, annoying looking DRL instead (so I have them turned off on my 2022 CX-30 Carbon). I almost bought the CX-5 Carbon in early 2022, but it was a bit too large for my taste, & went for the smaller, sleeker CX-30 Carbon instead.

I would say it's a functional thing as well. Every time your hands leave the frame, the camera has to refocus on the feature you're showing us.
