I have a 2014 RS. Chevy fitted it with rear disc brakes (the only variant of Sonic up until 2017 that has them) along with sportier shocks/ coils and different gearing. However there is no additional power so 138hp and 148 tq is all you get. I absolutely love it for what it is: a reliable and practical run about that gets close to 40mpg on the highway. For a 1.4l, the sonic is built to be a commuter car. I currently own a 2012 sonic hatch. It’s currently stage 2. Full exhaust, tune, intake, charge pipes, and intercooler, ported intake manifold, etc. these cars get up and go when they are tuned right, that sonic sounds like it’s on a stock tune. A stock sonic will make anywhere from 140-160 hp. Definitely not competition for the civic si, or ford st. These cars were not made for performance, but for gas mileage and compact attractiveness. Do not compare a slightly modded sonic to current standards, since most people buy a sonic for the compact reliability.

The real work happens on the front and there are discs there and that's fine. From a dead stop, you gotta use more throttle and clutch than you would on a different vehicle or it's dog slow and will really frustrate you. It's not a car you figure out in one drive, but I guarantee you that car will shock the hell out of some Mustangs. They are a blast! the rev rate is NOT THE FLYWHEEL by the way. it is something the engine management does. you have something called torque delta, the engine can add in power or suppress power to keep inside of the envelope, in both the positive and negative direction. it is designed in the negative for people who are slow at shifting not to miss the downshift. on the up side it is meant to further manage power and acceleration. I have retuned my own using hp tuners, I almost disabled it altogether. the engine revs A LOT faster and the rev down was about as quick as the ka20 honda i had before it with an aluminum flywheel. so I turned it back on alittle for casual driving.

2:38 Hello, do you know where I can buy the lower front fascia for this car? In EEUU

No biggie bud but its a 1.4lt turbo. The other option is a na 1.8lt. Bad News Racing makes awesome stuff for Sonics and Cruze. As does ZZP. ZZP has a Sonic that runs 13's in the 1/4 mile!

Anyone know where to get the auxiliary guages? I like the bronze look

More performance than a GTI?? Well, there's the obviously exaggerated horsepower, deficient brakes, and poor steering/handling, but, hey, it sounds good. A GTI at double the cost of this is still well worth it. What is the cost, anyway? I'm guessing $5000 - $6000 tops.

American car engineered in korea made in Canada with 90 percent parts made in Mexico that why German gti is hell better buy look at best CNC machine made by Germany so cars built,engineered,made in Germany why better cars,american greed why America cars mostly junk due to lowest bidder awarded contract to manufacture so shareholders line wallets and bank accounts true reason perod.

Came sooooo close to buying a Cobalt SS. Ended up with a Tiburon (ya not even close) only because I wanted a break from the stick shift I was driving at the time and I got a good deal.

It’s an LT with the LTZ hatch and badge. It’s a 1.4t not the 1.8. The LTZ came with rear disc brakes, the LT came with drums. The interior may be hard plastic but when you rest your arm on the door while driving you don’t notice it.

Speaking of hatches, do you have any insight on when the Veloster N DCT is going to be available for review?

I would be amazed if this car, with all of the mods to it, is cracking barely over 200 whp. It was probably tuned for a linear power band to protect the rods in the lower rpm range.
@anthonyjulson88404 жыл бұрын
I'm familiar with the company that produced the performance parts. Its quite possible that this car is pumping almost 300 HP. Its not cheap though.

I know of a cruze with the same engine that is running around 26 psi of boost, and he isn't nice to the car.
@duey10834 жыл бұрын
He would've felt it. The tires would have been screeching and the steering wheel would have ripped out of his hands from the torque steer. He also didnt mention anything about an LSD, so it would have been one wheel peel. I have a Mazdaspeed 3 with about 255 whp and 286 lb-ft of torque (not amazing numbers by any means), and a WOT pull is a LOT more eventful than this was. And if this is the same BNR that I'm familiar with, their turbos are very popular for our cars. I'm not saying it's not possible though. But 300 whp in that car should feel blisteringly fast.

Published June 2020. They talked 20k starting price for a used 2012 sonic. Regardless of mods, this isnt more than 7k, after tax
