I just had a Head and neck CT scan that came back as "Highly suspicious" results after getting a small abscess on my face following a swollen lymph node and now I have my blood count platelet at 474 and for 8 years I've suffered respiratory problems asthma/COPD constant respiratory and chronic sinusitis infections. And I'm finally getting results that will collaborate with what I've been experiencing all these years 🤮 and metal taste in my mouth difficulty swallowing choking with my food and at night. It's been a terrible experience but I think I'm finally getting my final results that will indicate what I've always thought I had. Thank you for this video it confirms what I've always thought was wrong with me now it's time to put it all together. 💞😔🙏
@laurastabell2489 Жыл бұрын
Metalic taste could be lead or other metal in your drinking water. In some places its getting leached out of old soldier due to road salt contaminating ground water. That happens seasonally in winter and again in summer due to less rain diluting chlorides. Sinus infection and multi system issues are a symptom.

I'm a 42 year old man. I've had 4 blood tests over the last 9 months. All of them had my platelets right around 650. Everything else looked fine. I don't have any symptoms. My Dr. scheduled me for a colonoscopy after the 2nd test. That didn't show anything. Now, I have an appointment with a hematologist in 12 days to see what's going on. Sounds like this puts me firmly in that 18.1% chance of cancer category. To be honest, I'm having a hard time not stressing out over this.

iluvduni I haven’t gotten an official diagnosis yet. Just had my 2nd visit with a hematologist (platelets are still high). He seems pretty confident that I have Essential Thrombocytosis. Next they’ll be testing me to look for a “JAK2” gene, and doing an ultrasound on my spleen to see if it’s enlarged. He also mentioned potentially doing a bone marrow biopsy at some point.

I just gave blood and they told me my platelet count was 471. The blood tech people thought that was great because they wanted me to donate my platelets. Obviously they're not fully informed that higher levels doesn't = all good. My iron (hematocrit) level this time around was a little on the lower side at 39 (low iron is supposed to elevate platelets a little). I eat healthy and exercise almost daily ... so I'm trying to figure out what 471 means to me. I'm 57 and always like to remedy things naturally if possible.

Any new unexplained developments of thrombocytosis or dyslipidemia should prompt for further investigation. Cancer is one of many reasons to cause reactive thrombocytosis. Of course, you’d check for IDA, infection, inflammation/autoimmune causes first. But if none of those apply and the patient shows persistent thrombocytosis, work up absolutely should be done to search for occult malignancy. Too bad many primary care physicians in the US are pretty ignorant about this. To other patients who are experiencing unexplained persistent thrombocytosis but facing a dismissive PCP like me, I recommend you ask for a hematology/oncology referral, or if symptoms suggest, a GI or Pulmonary referral. My experience is that the specialists in the US are much more knowledgeable and alert about silent signs like this.
@jiafei088 ай бұрын
There has been further research showing that in the elderly patients, even a high normal platelet count (after a rise for the patient) could be an early sign of malignancy.

I've had thrombocytosis at least (probably longer) since 2010 (I'm currently 58 yo). I have no accompanying symptoms other than consistently high platelet counts. I mean, by definition essential thrombocytosis patients have cancer and are at an increased risk of developing related cancers such as polycythemia vera or acute myeloid leukemia. The understanding is that certain types of cancer first cause inflammation in the body which leads to reactive thrombocytosis.
