High blood platelets. What are the causes and what to do. Doctor gives hints

Hi Dr Igor. My senario is this. For the last 3 years my Platelets have increased but were never dealt with until September 2023. Sept 1024 count Oct. 1054 Nov. 1064. I had a bone marrow biopsy on 20th November. Follow up 11th Dec. I actually don't know what potentially i could have, might already have, if anything at all? Should i be concerned? Thank you. I understand you can only give advice not a diagnosis. My CBC only shows an abnormal platelet rise, all else is within Normal range.

​@@doctor_igor Update: Hi, as of Jan 15th 2024, I was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocytopenia, after Royal Marsden completed the Geno testing. I also happen to be a Triple Negative case. I've been referred to Guys/ St Thomas'.

@@doctor_igor Hello. It’s been high for 2 yrs. now. The last time I was at the doctor it was high, as well. I’m taking meds for high blood pressure & triglycerides, which I’m maintaining w/ daily exercise & fasting (OMAD).

My CBC came back and my platelet count was 628 and 4 months ago it was 456. It keeps going up….but all other CBC blood results are in normal range. I don’t understand why just my platelets are high. Does 628 indicate cancer? I’m going to hematologist very soon.

Thrombocytosis is just high platelets. Second one is a disease, that causes Thrombocytosis

Just saw my blood test results say I have a blood platelet count of 450, which is higher than the “normal” range which ends at 400. I’ve of course started googling and panicking myself lol. I also noticed my MCH is 25 and my MCHC is 30. Now I’m wondering if I have iron-defficiency anemia, which I read could cause the high platelets. Just not sure if I should worry about these numbers or not. 😢

Mine was 406 in October and now it’s 321 in April. I’ll have to refer back to my blood work for MCH, etc. I believe 175-250 is optimal. You definitely want to get them down. There’s a difference between optimal and normal. I’m taking fibrenza which is likely most responsible for lowering and healthy keto.

Mu. Platelet count is 511, I have had diverticulitis, they did CT scan. Of the abdomen, and a colonoscopy copy, no cebut a diverticulosis mass? I fee tired and not myself still. Hello doctor.. in August my blood platelets was 689 and had a urine bacterial infection and Hpylori.. I treated the Hpylori it’s negative, today I checked my blood again and the blood platelets decreased to 640 but I still have urine infection,, is the infection the reason why still high, and since it decreased it it a good sign?? Possibly. Can't tell for sure. But cancer is not the only reason to increase platelets and not used for diagnosis

Hey. Thrombocytosis may be due to any inflammation in the body. Neutropenia may be seen in many conditions. For example, viral infection. The lymphocytes struggle with virus thus increasing their percentage in comparison to neutrophils. These finding don't mean cancer. It's not the most likely possibility at all

Hello. I would do coagulation tests and see if the blood clots more actively than usual. Also check your liver if there is any fat there. Try to eat less sugar and fructose. Recheck platelets

@@doctor_igor thank you. I've made lifestyle changes to lose about 30lbs, the issue that has pushed me to pre-diabetes. I'm doing this through a low glycemic diet that is sustainable for life. Nothing extreme, just enough to lose 1lb a week. I'll do as you suggest when i reach my goal weight. I've been healthy my entire life -- no BP issues, low cholesterol, the works. This is my first issue and the gradual menpausal weight gain is what caused this, i suspect. thank you for responding.

Last year i was hospitalized. Platelets were at 2.6 mil. Took a few weeks and a lot of tinkering with medicine to bring them down. I have no mutations according to bone marrow biopsy. On a normal day with all the meds i take it stays at around 650. Could this be reactive? I am told i have no cancer or mutations.

Could it be a mistake or you did it many times? Never seen so high platelets even close.. As for me you just monitor it. Hopefully it will never happen again. There are many things in medicine we don't understand. Sometimes it is almost impossible to find the reason. Important that serious conditions were excluded

@@doctor_igor thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately it's been over a year and if I'm not taking constant medication my platelets will skyrocket back up to that number. The people at the hospital I stayed at said they'd never seen a platelet count so high. They call it a myeloproliferative disorder and I was wondering if maybe it is somehow reacting to something in my environment or two what I'm eating but they can't answer that question unfortunately

Well. Difficult to tell In comments. I would check lungs first of all. Feet....it can be problem of blood vessels,edema,neuropathy.... everything also can have different causes. You can't tell without medical exam

But he directed me to OBGYN. 😤 somebody needs to have an answer or send me to a specialist at this point. Bc why is it increasing..
