Every boosted engine I build gets WI....on freshen ups....you can usually still read the part numbers on the tops of pistons. Water injection flat works.

I have torn down 2 engines with wmi, both of them had nearly spotless piston tops and next to no carbon on the compression rings. The valves weren't spotless but far from bad. One engine had 199902 miles other had 172142. So neither was low mileage. I have Ben impressed with what I have seen. It really does help keep things clean.

@@tunerdadtunerdad7927 I installed it on my TDI VW ea888 mainly for the valve cleaning but I welcomed the extra bit of hp after a tune using it. I was just supporting that it does clean things up. Another nice benefit is on hot days, I don't experience heatsoak anymore.

It's working. The hard carbon deposits on the back of the valve actually make them easier to "shock" with a wet air charge and have them chip off as if you were making a flint spear point. It's the gummy stuff on the valve stem that's harder to clean. You are looking at two weeks, give it a year. It didn't happen overnight, it's not going to be washed away overnight. I have also seen recommendation of adding a little dish washing liquid to the water alcohol possibly 3 ounces per gallon to assist with cleaning the gummy part.

That scope is a great bit of kit, thinking of getting one myself, didn't know the carbon problem was an issue until the engine was a high mileage, i know regular oil changes helps combat it, also using the right specification oil makes a difference, oil catcher can is also an interesting fix.

Some people seem concerned that water injection will dislodge gunk and cause problems. But my idea (its not an original idea) is to fit water or water/ meth as a preventative measure. BTW you can get a borescope from China (possibly more local as well) to plug in to your android phone for about 5 euros.

I usually do multi port ethanol injection on my engines using a water injection setup. Before this I'd run 44k top end cleaner, which is very effective but its rough on the oil. You have to change it right after the treatment. I have a Radium catch can setup which collects a bit between changes. The beauty of DI engines is they can be a little leaner at WOT. I aim for 12.5 at WOT which includes the injected ethanol O2 content.

I just picked up a little Fiat GP 1.4 t jet which is a quite nippy little car, I got it for my sisters birthday present but I think I might keep it and use it as a little track car once it’s mapped and a bigger turbo fitted! Should see 180bhp just with those things. This water injection you have looks great and something I might add in mine too, I’m glad you show all this stuff!

@@Sparkplugsteve no worries mate, I was going to go down the road of making my Volvo v70 into a track car but it’s too big , heavy and it will cost me a lot more in mods to not see much gains unlike the Fiat which if I do it right can get over 200bhp after a few mods that are not too expensive then I can keep my Volvo as a comfortable daily because it’s good at that and the Fiat to rag about.

Having just seen my head disassembled after 5000miles an oil catch can is a must on these cars.. I don’t think I’d want the meth to be cleaning the valves/loosening debris as what ever comes off is going through your engine/bearings and potentially your turbo. Just get the valves blasted and the crap sucked out..only way to be sure they are clean or leave it alone and hope nothing drops off naturally..in 70k on my previous engine it was fine.
