I agree with your basic point, but the larger issue is which translation better represents the original text. Taking your two examples: In 1 Corinthians 15:53 the Greek word at issue is φθαρτός. In both the New Testament (1 Corinthians 9:25 and 1 Peter 1:18) and apocryphal texts (Wisdom of Solomon 14:8) the same word is used to describe inanimate objects (crowns in the NT verses and idols in Wisdom). Based on this usage, the meaning of "perishable" is more likely what Paul meant rather than "corruptible." While the idea that sin corrupts is certainly valid, I really don't think that's the meaning that φθαρτός carries. Jeremiah 2:20 is more complicated. The vowel points of the Masoretic Hebrew text reads "will not transgress." But both the Septuagint and Vulgate rendered the Hebrew as "shall not serve." Most scholars think the Masoretes misread the text and included the wrong vowels. As the notes to the New English Translation explain: "The MT of this verse has two examples of the old second feminine singular perfect, שָׁבַרְתִּי (shavarti) and נִתַּקְתִּי (nittaqti), which the Masoretes mistook for first singulars leading to the proposal to read אֶעֱבוֹר (ʾeʿevor, “I will not transgress”) for אֶעֱבֹד (ʾeʿevod, “I will not serve”)." While the King James has beautiful language, I would say that the ESV and NASB are probably more reliable representations of the original texts (though there are exceptions of course).

I like the way the HCSB and the CSB reads.

I am competent in Biblical Greek and passable in Biblical Hebrew. I use the Holman Christian Study Bible and the ESV when I speak about the Bible with others. I use the uncommon American Standard Bible. Not the NASB, I use the 1901 American Standard Bible. Logos Bible Software is a boon in this as I can compare up to 6 versions simultaneouly.

I think everyone knows what changes have went on in America over the last 60 +yrs and you should take this into consideration strongly. Look to your most fundamentalist traditionalist denominational family this is exactly what they've conserved like a hawk and they stay active in this area. Volume of text is miss leading also especially as much controversy is around sinaticous or many of them that certain owners won't allow to be dated or directly tested. Picking and choosing from many different traditions based on volume leads to doctrinal theological changes that when you back up and look at it ,its suspect to say the least. Want a known traditional translation history not a bunch of differences mixed all up. Last 60 to 80 years in America individualism has been pulled more and more out with swaying a little here little there

My pastor had this issue yesterday teaching our Sunday School class with the relationship of Mordecai and Esther. He thought that Mordecai was her uncle. But that’s because he reads from the NKJV and our Sundays School books are done in the CSB. And it calls Mordecai, Esther’s cousin.

Oh wow. What a great example of how important it is to compare!

@@betterbiblereading and whats funny is I used to call my cousin, “uncle”. Also can you do a video on the names of Moses’ father in law? (Reuel/Jethro)

The NKJV calls Esther Mordecai’s ‘uncles daughter’ - hence his cousin (not her uncle). The CSB just says ‘cousin’ instead of ‘uncle’s daughter’. Same relation - cousin, not uncle.

I agree with you on, 'the subtly is worth evaluating'. Well, the enemy is subtle. Please watch the video: THE WORDS OF GOD: KJB or Modern Bibles? from the ' Truth is Christ ' channel. A big eye opener!! Every Christian Church should watch that video! You can see a lot of scripture proof after 19th minute mark, but the whole video is worth watching!

One word can make a vast difference. The conference at Nicea was over homousia versus homoiusia. One meaning Jesus was similar to God and one meaning Jesus was identical to God. A man named Athanasius argued for Jesus being identical with God. Many said Athanasios you are alone in your belief. He said the now famous statement "One man and God equal a majority." There is the quip by some that is true but many have become martyrs while the votes were being counted up.

The translators of the KJV had 6 manuscripts basically. Now we have thousands. The manuscripts now go back to the 300s. ^he translators of the KJV had no manuscript older than hundreds of years old.

Perhaps it depends on your KJV bible. Mine has a note for the word Transgress which says Serve. Huge difference between those two words. Good video
