It's great to see real sessions especially using the head collar. Lots of videos showing you how to fit one with dogs that sit their nicely.... This is more like real life for most of us

Yes it's important you see the process and realty of what it takes.

Yes Jason, I agree with you completely, never give up, and don’t let your puppy win the battle , otherwise it gets even harder… continue to reinforce him, and show who is in command. Great video , you are a champion, bravo . Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 Raymond

I’ve got a giant breed pup so had no choice but to introduce a halti early on. He hated it at first but we stuck with it and he’s ok now. It took a good month of doing short, regular walks until he stopped trying to get it off. He does try a little still when another dog approaches him but it’s short lived.

Thanks for this. I've got a 16th month fixed female olde english bulldogge who displays aggressive, crazy behavior when on walks with my 9 year old labradoodle whenever she sees another dog coming down the street. This breed is new to me and she is definitely strong willed. I've tried the Halti and one minute she will walk with it and not pull and the next minute, she dives into the grass and tries to rub it off of her face. I end up tugging her away from the ground because she's caused just above her nose to bleed on two occasions. I think I need to try some backyard sessions with treats before venturing out on walks with the Halti. This video has been helpful. Thanks.

Great vid, working through those refusal/stubborn bits with just enough pressure to get willing compliance. Your channel deserves more audience. I dislike clickbait titles in general, but they seem to work for gaining views and visibility.

Thanks and yes I agree about titles, but unfortunately you have to draw attention to your videos. It's hard to stand out amongst all the BS.

HALTI Optifit collars are good for dog-on-dog aggression as well.

I purchased a halti for my pup and she hates, hates, hates it to the point she had a fit, and tried to bite me twice, basically had the equivalent of a 2 year old toddler temper tantrum. I took it off and have not put it back on since. I will give this a try. Wish I knew all of this before I decided to go with a halti.

I just got a 3 year old lab - rehired. She's not used a Halti before and every few seconds she tries to scrape it off her face. She's larger and I find it hard to manage. I don't have a slip lead. Is it possible to make one? I live in a rural area - no local pet store. My previous dog used a Halti and I had no difficulties. I used a Choke chain as my slip lead. Previous owner of my lab used a pinch collar which I don't like and a harness which she also didn't like. But her owner was a much stronger person than me.

I wish my girl would walk nicely like that. I've been using the head halter for over 3 months now. She's just a bit over 1 year now. She's good at having it on, because it means we are going for a walk, but she's still out front at the end of the leash. She doesn't care if I tuck on the leash, she just looks at me and then walks on.
@jasonharrisdogtraining2 жыл бұрын
Try left turns into your dog when they start to go out front, then turn again and go back the same way you where walking. This done right can make a difference. Have a look through my equipment videos there might be one there explaining this. If not I will make one soon.

@@jasonharrisdogtraining Thanks for the reply. I've done that and we didn't get very far on our walk. Took me an hour to get home for just a few hundred yards. I felt foolish doing it. She was perfect when I did it but as soon as she realized we were walking straight again she was out front. I 've watched almost all your videos and I know it in theory. Loose leash etc. I will get over feeling like a dork and start doing what you suggested. Thanks, Jason. Appreciate your videos very much. My dog is an Australian Cattle dog by the way, smartest dog we ever had, and we had GS's.

@@Moni-ui5bz yes the embarrassment is what stops allot of people. You are doing the right thing, don't try to walk very far even if it's just up and down your own street. Make your dog earn the walk.
@everydayalignment2 жыл бұрын
@@Moni-ui5bz my husband leaves it to me and I think that's because he feels silly doing the turns and back and forth. I am over that, I go round in circles in the middle of our road, up and down, back and forth and no longer care what people think .... In fact a neighbour messaged me one day and told me what an amazing dog owner I was having so much patience with our boy as she saw me doing my daily thing. Getting over what people think is so worth it. I also have a blue training vest for mine which I like to use when it's not too warm. People give you space and it's clear what you are doing so it makes it easier to do what you need to do

What do these positive only trainers do when the dog isn’t food driven and reactive, WHEN the dog reacts it’s always going to hit the end of the leash…… that’s a correction!!! They wash their hands of that dog and say there’s nothing that can be done with this dog. I applaud your technique

This dog is not a good example of a dog who hates this head collar. He walks around happily taking treats. What about the dogs who dropped to the ground and roll around and refused to comply in anyway despite the number of treats offered? This video does not help at all.
@jasonharrisdogtraining9 ай бұрын
Sorry the video didn’t help you out the reason I don’t show you dogs that are rolling around on the ground excessively is because there’s a limit to how much I’m going to put a dog through. If it’s too stressful, I’m not going to bother with forcing a dog to wear it.
