As I follow more and more of your demos, I'm now doing your inside-to-outside approach. It's really effective and the result is more satisfying with fewer abandoned drawings. Many thanks.

I love your content, this video specifically has a bit of a shake to it unfortunately which started a headache so I had to cut it short. Not sure if it was a tripod shifting thing or camera trying to focus. I don't believe I've experienced this issue with your other videos

This drawing was done last year when I had a different tripod. It had become very shaky. so I replaced it with a nice sturdy one. Sorry for the headache 😟

very helpful I have started working from inside out but sometimes find I cant fit the page. guess more practise required!!

Start by drawing same size as the reference. That’s the easiest way to start with proportion and scale. 😀

There is an old trick many learn when beginning called "gridding", where you take a pencil and draw an evenly proportioned grid of squares over the reference, then do the same (but you can change size of the grid) on your paper. For this, you could use a variation of that trick and just pop some dots on the drawing paper. Those are easily removed when you scan it in to show off. And, this trick is really a quick way to begin to learn how sizes of things relate to each other. Or, I mean, you could still use pencil to grid it out a few times. No guilt in that at all. Just don't lean on it forever, right. Use any trick you can to get you there.

I have a confession to make... I started using some of my drawing pens for crossword puzzles. I feel so guilty... but, at the same time, my crossword puzzle solving has never been better. Anyone else? Where's my support group? (Only half-joking... the 75% dead ones actually DO work great on puzzle book paper. Thanks for being my favorite art teacher online, man. Ink used to scare me much more than now.)

Haha. Great you could find such a good use for them. I appreciate your kind words. Thank you. 😀

And the effect of doing crosswords in ink has something of the same effect, "forcing" us to pay greater attention one clue, letter, and answer at a time, and thus tending toward greater accuracy!

@@Steviepinhead lol. Truth! There is a slight amount of guilt involved for every letter I get wrong and try to darken-correct into another letter. Getting it wrong twice... whew, may as well give that puzzle up and move along to the next.
