I just read the parable of the wedding banquet and I figured it out. Jesus had the good and the bad there and they were brought in with wedding garments. They were all accepted because they had on the garments which in my mind is faith in Jesus. Another came in without the wedding garment. I took that to mean he came in without faith in Jesus and what Jesus did for us, and he was cast out. It goes on further and it says many are called but few are chosen. I might be getting it wrong but I used to think the chosen were those who’s works made it clear they belonged to the Lord. But it’s not that at all. I noticed the parable said the good and bad were there and it said nothing about kicking the bad out. To me that was saying those with righteous works and those without righteous works both belonged to the Lord. It was the one who came in without Christ who was cast out. I hope I’m understanding that right.

CAPS ARE FOR COMMENTARY. NOT YELLING. 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, THIS IS THE FATHER PREPARING TO WED OFF HIS SON TO THE CHURCH. WHICH WERE THE JEWISH PEOPLE. 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. THE ABOVE IS SPEAKING OF THE PROPHETS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE REJECTING CHRIST. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. THIS IS GOD OPENING SALVATION TO THE GENTILES. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. THIS IS THE GOSPEL BEING SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. THIS SHOW THAT MANY COME BUT ARE NOT SAVED. NO CHANGE IN THEM. NO REPENTANCE. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

@@WatchingUntiltheEnd... The Jewish people (legalistic or religious) are not the Church under the Age of Grace. The book of Matthew was directed to those under the Law. Believers in Jesus is under the Gospel of Apostle Paul who was send out to preach to the Gentiles. Act 23:38-39 is under the New. We put our trust in the works of Jesus Christ not on our works. I realize, I cannot forgive on my own that releases me to let go my unforgiveness. So I say Lord Jesus I cannot but because you live in me I can do all things because there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Amen.

That's good to quote Ephesians 4:32, you're right on. Paul said the same in Colossians 2:13. Paul is our Apostle (Romans 11:13, 15:16, and Ephesians 3:1-4 just to name a few). In Matthew 6 who is Jesus talking to? Matthew 15:24 and Romans 15:8 answer this, and it's not us. He hadn't even been to the cross yet. We are not the audience in Matthew 6, gentiles were on the outside (Ephesians 2:11-12). Our instructions are found in the epistles of Paul, and Jesus revealed thru him that we are to forgive, not to be forgiven, but because we ARE forgiven. Past tense, it's done.

By His grace through faith in the blood of Jesus God forgives us our sins that we have committed against Himself and gifts us eternal salvation and life. But we will still commit sins during our remaining time on Earth even after being born again and God will deal with us accordingly and chasten and scourge us, so that we might learn and live more godly in the future. Our sins will still have negative consequences (for both us an for others in our lives) in this life that we need to deal with. God might forgive us these temporal trespasses so that He would save us from those temporal consequences, but He might also have to some times let us suffer through them so that we might learn to be more virtuous and become better servants in the future.

I had to go to counseling and therapy for years (pastors, a class on forgiveness, that is it not saying what they did is ok, psychiatrists group therapy) to get enough healing to be able to forgive, and talk to them at all about it. Think about it this way. If they have believed in Jesus, they are forgiven and justified in God's sight just the same way as you are. Relative to God's righteousness you both are the same. So when you die and get rid of this body of death and are clothed in life eternal then your carnal grievances will melt away as well. Those people who hurt you will also be changed by God's love and realize how they wronged you and believe me, they will be sorry. You will also be free from your earhtly burdens and you will be able to see them as God sees them. You will be able to forgive them and love them just as Jesus does. And after a while you won't even remember your hurt because your life will be filled with so much love and joy of which you cannot even imagine at this moment! Those people have wronged you, and God will deal with them. If they are children of God, then he will chasten them and set them right. So let him. Forgive and forget about them. In another place that says I will appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. If I have control over my heart forgive people just through and through from the heart like God forgives I'd be like God. This is not good news. Now I'm going to have to walk the strictest way and be is pure in my heart to avoid being chastened every single day. You have succeeded in taking the failed doctrine that doesn't bring salvation and most people put it on for fellowship. But if my fellowship is based on my performance then I'll never have fellowship. If whether I'm chasing or not is based on my performance and I'm going to be continually and habitually chastened. I can't do things perfectly from the heart. This is terrible news. God tasted death for every man. The whole earth has been sanctified so yes it has to be unbelievers because if believers are held to that standard we are all going to hell. We all don't have fellowship and we all will be chastened continually and regularly we will never know the love of God or experience peace with God. How do you have peace through continual and ongoing chastening?

Insofar as Jesus taught the law, it was to prove they could not live up to the law. He also taught grace by faith to the Jews. Paul taught the exact same thing, Romans 3 teaches salvation by the law and like the sermon on the mount Paul argues none of us can attain it. Paul then goes onto explain grace by faith. Just as the two chapters following the beatitudes is jam packed with people being healed and forgiven by FAITH.

And we must remember that this is a parable. So it doesn't mean that God will literally put us into a prison until we have atoned for our sins, but that something likened unto it would happen, nor that this would happen after death in some sort of purgatory. Most likely it refers to some kind of a temporal punishment, like how you mentioned about losing fellowship. You might lose fellowship with other believers if you act unmerciful towards them, and your bad conscience could prevent you from having a close relationship with God as well, until you repent and make things right. But God will still receive the unmerciful believer as his son in the end.

Congratulations you just set up another law we are all under law and God is only going to be as good to us as we are good. That is not good news. God is only going to treat us according to our performance. I need him to be more forgiving than I am. I need him to be gracious or in other words overlook things. I'm forgiving as a sinner but then because I'm still a sinner I'll be chasing to death I'll be chasing every day of the rest of my life. You can't say I'm the one hand that we sent every day and then turn around and say that God is only going to be as good to us as we are. Then we would be chasing continually and he would be dealing with us according to our performance. Which is the very system that didn't work anywhere else for salvation for fellowship for anything.
