I had a OU fitted and reworked and this is exactly how he fitted the stock- my scores went from 22 avg to 24 avg..and I am still a occasional trapshooter.

Thanks very much Doug. Could you do a little video on fitting a SxS. We have four guns, a 1909 Greener two 1970's Merkels and a 1960's Italian gun and the stocks are all very different

Hi Doug, lets say I want a Beretta 686 but the comb is to low or to high and the gun is short unless I put on a new pad throwing off the angle from heal to toe. Arn't all 686 berettas configured about the same generally speaking. The gun should fit me 98 or 99 percent. Do I look for another maker to see if one of their guns fit?
@scottcrawford37453 жыл бұрын
For the comb part, Beretta makes several models with an adjustable comb. That should look after any cheek-weld issues to get your sight-picture correct. If the original pad was correct in terms of pitch, the new pad shouldn't change that. If it IS off, some careful use of a flat mill file can correct that angle, but only take off about 1/3 to 1/2 of a millimeter at a time. The pad should exert equal pressure in your shoulder-pocket all along it's length. If there are pressure-points at the top or bottom, then file off a little more. They say that differences as little as 1/3 of a mm can make a difference. Fitting a stock is as much art as it is skill, but it's always trial and error. A few hours spent fitting can produce years of success. Just go slowly. Yes, most manufacturers try to make a "standard" stock but just remember: it's Wood. Being a natural material, it can have many small variances, and also change a little due to temperature and moisture content. We are all built differently. Generic stocks are meant to be an " average fit". If you really like a Beretta, and want a Beretta, there's no reason not to get a Beretta, ( after all, they ARE among the most popular shotguns in the World) just be prepared for the possibility of a bit of fine-tuning, a higher-end competition model to get the adjustable, or possibly a custom stock, depending on how seriously you take your shooting.

@@avocado9763 No worries. You are so welcome. Hope I was able to help. Best of luck with your purchase. I run a Browning 725 Ported Sporting, 30", Adjustable comb, left-hand, Extended Carlson's Gold competition ported chokes. Being a Southpaw, I fully understand the difficulties of getting firearms to match me for shooting. I would say that in terms of spending, relative to your budget, but do not Underspend. If by spending a little more comparatively , like if you're already looking at a ~$2500 shotgun, but a $3000 one has everything you need, or options you might want later, get it now, rather than later, when you have to try selling your current one to upgrade, or forking out even more for a new one. I have heard the expression ( buying Too Much Gun), but many times that is more in regards to features you will Never need/use, or embellishments like fancy engraving or exotic wood stocks, if those aren't important to you. Grade 2 American Black walnut will shoot just as well as Presentation Grade Circassian Turkish Walnut. It's just not as pretty. Engraving and fancy coatings will not improve your follow-through.

Quick question; what is the consequence if the length of pull is too long? How does one know that the length of pull is too long?
