Great job well done. Had lung cancer in 2005 with top left lobe removed. Still shooting at 85. Having an adjustable comb and butt makes adjustments easy for clothing and body changes. Love my Beretta 682 Gold.

You did a great job with this. You were repeating what my first instructor told me almost word for word. A helpful hint regarding your choke tubes. Get a little automotive anti-seize and put a small dab on the threads. That will help keep the threads from locking up.

Very clear and informative! I have had shoulder cuff problems for two years now, but also want a 12 gauge shotgun. My surgery was 7 weeks ago, so I will have to wait a few more months until I can shoot one. Currently I am trying to learn as much as possible about shotguns so I can make an educated decision when the time arrives. Thank you for the video!

Very nice tutorial. One thing that can help enormously to the fit is to find a gun with a slight 'cast off' in it's stock for a right hander or a 'cast on' stock for a left hander. Even some relatively cheap shotguns are made this way from the factory i.e. Berettas.

Interesting point about the trigger finger pointing at the point of aim. That's reminiscent of the thumbs forwards pistol grip with thumbs basically aiming at the target.

I found that most guns don't fit me well. Need to put my jaw to the stock on some of them - so bad, but I adapt well with rifles and static targets. For trap and skeet on the other hand, I'll need a better gun that fits. Thanks for your advice :)

In Montana when I hunt huns in September I am wearing a T-shirt, when I hunt roosters in late December with a thick parka there is 2 inches thicker clothes. So length of pull varies depending on whether the hunting temperature is 70F or 10F. There is a tremendous variation in length of pull preferred among world class shooters:kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5rLl5iJo7t9iJY Consistent check weld pressure and sighting down the rib is key. Easy to check by taping a drinking straw on the rib. Close your eyes, mount the gun, open your eyes. You should see the shotgun bead looking straight through the drinking straw.

The only thing in my opinion is shooting at a pattern plate to me theres no way to aim directly center of the plate your better off shooting at a go away target to get an idea of what your aiming at but all your o the point were spot on great video.

When shooters find a gun they love for shotgun shooting, its very hard for them to get rid of it. I commonly see worn out guns that are not worth fixing come into our shop but its a gun the customer shoots well with and they don't want to replace it with a new gun.

At 08:50 she talks about keeping the head straight and that is ofcourse totally true, however there is a reason that people tilt their heads and that is the gun not fitting them properly in the first place. Guns are made such that most people have to crouch their shoulders upwards and their necks forwards and downwards to get the eyes down onto the rib line of sight. I had this issue myself not even knowing for two years, until I tried a high rib which totally made the gun fit me - not the other way around. With a high rib this lady and many others with her would not have to crouch and compress her upper body onto the gun, but rather it would allow her to shoot in an perfectly relaxed upper body position as well as increase her field of view onto the targets. A high rib totally changed my shooting for the better and I will never go back having tried it for a few weeks. I Skeet this becomes even more important than in Trap because you will eliminate much unnecssary body movement during mounting, wich allows for less body coordination and complexity of movement while trying to brake the first target.
@alanbush41924 жыл бұрын
unfortunately a lot of shooters tend to HUNCH their shoulders as they mount the gun and don't even know they are doing it until its pointed out to them and their not always beginners. The shoulders should always be down and relaxed for a fluid mount and swing. What you describe is a fundamentally bad mount. I would recommend finding a good experienced instructor and booking some hands on lessons

I've been around a long time and contend that shooters today very often mount guns with stocks that are far too straight. With the butt in their delto-pectoral groove (if they do manage to seat it there), they have to contort themselves to get their heads down, often abusing their cheeks. Shooters should at least try guns from the early part of the last century when the drops at heel and comb were greater than seen today. A more comfortable stance will result and the gun will be more likely to point where you're actually looking. This is especially true of SXS doubles that I prefer. High walled O/U guns could tolerate straighter stocks but the coveted low profile actions less so. Anyhow, one old guy's opinion (and experience).

very informative, but one safety point (esp. for youtube), show us that it is unloaded, as we don't know that it is {lore is to assume that it is, UNLESS proven otherwise}; so a quick look for us down the breech, or a "jag" or other object in there to show us no cartridge is in it, then you can fling it around, and we don't mind, as we know the neighbours dog and cat are safe 🙂.
