Merry Christmas Mike, When using the club call for pota you can be the control op as long as you have permission from the trustee but you need to stay within your privileges. If activating as a club outing you will just need to change the operator call so that each person that gets on the radio gets credit for activating. Just need to get 10 qso's per operator for each op to have a successful activation for the op and the club. For example if we are activating Monte Sano and I get 5 qsos as we4dx and you get 5 as we4dx you and the club get a successful activation but we each get a failed activation. For uploading its best if the trustee has the pota password. I would have bet Stairway but i think it Hotel California

Merry Christmas, Mike! I have a breaker on my battery for safety. As often as I change things in my car (changes in progress now, even), I want a quick way to make the equipment space safe in case I accidentally touch an exposed wire to something. Also, since my setup is installed in a vehicle, I open the breaker before the car goes to a shop for work. That way, the technician doesn't get any surprise sparks, either. Techs get confused if they see lights or displays in the cabin when they know that they've disconnected the starter battery. Opening the breaker removes confusion and keeps things safe for everyone. 73! -Scott

A control operator has to be there of the license class that is being used. If you are in Extra Class space and are a general, you must have an Extra Class control operator. At our club events, we do this at Field day and POTA. We generally set up stations and have Extra Class operators at all the radios as control operators so anyone, even visitors, can operate the radio at Field day. We have techs working the radios with general privileges as well on POTA.

@@Jiminico they should have someone at the radio with the privileges for the frequency it's set to. The control op does have to be on the radio just within control distance and they would get the operator credit for POTA.

If there is a member of the club who is a extra and acting a a control operator on premises you can work all the bands, if it's you and your call is a general call you can only work general bands and below.

How much heat does the Genasun Charge Controller generate in the box under load? I ask because the manual advises you to allow adequate airflow around the controller. The gun case you have it in is designed to be water tight. No airflow.

The licensed operator can only use his/her own callsign in within his/her own privileges. So a General class in the extra band can use the club call, but not his own. That assumes the club has a designated control operator with an extra class license on the site. A licensee using the station within his/her own privileges can use both call signs. regardless of control operator's license class.

I think I can help with the club call. Mike's totally right, the control operating is the person submitting the event, aka the lead. the general rule of of thumb, is you need to use the frequency privileges that person has; a.i. general class, extra class prospectively. If I where you, I'd find a club in your area who does Field Day that uses the club call. It'll be similar and they'll be able to you. good luck and hope to hear ya on the air. 73s

Good work, but having the 100 AH battery floating around unsecured in the battery box is sloppy work. The battery will be banging against the 12V cables protruding from your Power Pole sockets etc and over time could damage or break the connection! Secure that battery with suitable packing, buddy!

Clubs don't have operating classes. Mike's advice on defaulting to your privileges or that of the control operator (if not yourself) is the correct way to operate.

I have the same issue with my LiFePO4 battery box. I'm using an Epic Pwrgate, and after about two weeks the battery had only enough juice to transmit my HF radio at 75 watts once. After that the voltage was between 8 and 9. My power meter/shunt doesn't detect the low current draw of the Epic Pwrgate or itself, so I had to install a switch. I guess it would have been just as easy to unplug the battery. 73 KD5YOU

Club callsigns don't confer ANY operating privileges. That's a common misconception. You can use the club call if you have permission from the trustee. You can use the license class of whatever control operator is present. You often see things written like, "we were operating under the club call, so I could use the extra privileges," from people who probably had an extra around as a control operator and didn't understand which of those two things gave them the privileges.

I think this is the one I'm using. amzn.to/3VQCkRu There's all kinds of them on amazon though. Just search 12V breaker and you can find whatever amp rating you want. I don't have any on my Amazon store because while I do have many of them, the quality is hit or miss. Sometimes they trip, sometimes they don't. For example, I use a 250amp breaker when I test batteries. I regularly pull around 270 amps and that breaker never trips. I've tested a ~60 amp breaker and it didn't trip until I pulled over 100amps from it. I really just use it as a switch and rely on the fuses for actual protection.

Club calls can be used by those authorized by the trustee. You should use your privileges unless there is an authorized person of higher class to supervise. We do this all the time for field day.

How did you fix the batteries to the power box?

I had two 20Ah AGM batteries secured with about a 6x8" velcro patch on each. Needed to slip in a wide putty knife to separate the velcro faces! As long as both sides are flat, you have cleaned the surfaces, and you give it 24 hours to set, that's all you need. I won't mention the granite tabletop I have attached the same way. Velcro or 3M, not the off-brand stuff.

why not just choose Override Station Location with QTH details from your log? then you don't have to create multiple stations. doesn't that work?

I have no idea, but I would assume (and we all know where that gets us) if you override your station location, could you potentially submit all of your contacts with the new location? This is just the way I do it. I'm sure there's other ways, but it's easy enough to do it this way for me. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@@hamradiotube it does it on a per QSO basis. so if one QSO is in New Mexico and the other is in Colorado, each one will show the location for that QSO and not the station in Texas that you have setup as a station in TQSL.

Yeah I'm 99.9% sure you can't upload from QRZ to LOTW. That's why I always upload to LOTW first. That, and for some reason which I have absolutely no justification for, I just feel LOTW is more "official" if that's the right word.
