Does your own insurance cover a rental car? What to know

The real question should be why the public isn't fighting no fault insurance! If you get injured, you have almost zero coverages.

Don’t listen to the news most Insurances do cover you on rentals however if you ever damage a rental that claim you file with your car insurance goes as a damage claim to your own car. Either take their insurance and walk away as you returned the car with damage and never hear from them or you have a credit card that covers rental vehicles.

It does turn a $75 rental into a $150 daily cost fast....worth checking before you go.

@@iam1smiley1 yeah but I’d prefer to pay that then have to use my insurance which will cost me more annually however since we’re in 2024 I’d highly recommend someone to get a cc that had travel/rental insurance it does wonders and doesn’t show as claim to your insurance

You can always call your Insurance/Credit Card company and ask. They may even offer something to cover your situation.

Even if you take out the rental car company insurance they will still try to go through your insurance if you have a claim

The rental company should have their own insurance covering their vehicles in case they got stolen.
