This was timely content, as I just got done doing this on my camper. I'm posting this as encouragement to others that may have been putting this off for any reason. I bought my camper in August last year. It being brand new and stored under cover, I been putting it off. The PDI I did consisted of climbing the ladder for a look see, but not actually getting up on the roof and walking it. I'm not really fond of working at heights and off of tall ladders, to be honest. Well I finally sucked it up and got on the roof to clean it off and inspect. All was good, except I found a small tear in the pvc membrane about the size of a pea. I'm pretty sure it was from an a/c unit mounting stud that may have been dropped during assembly. Or possibly a transporter caught a tree limb somewhere between the factory and my dealer. I'm certain I didn't get under any low branches. Nonetheless, it was an easy repair patch that could have developed into far worse. Also the dicor around one of the vents had been stepped on before setting at the factory. It didn't seem to be compromised, but I cleaned and re-sealed it to be safe. Having done all that, I will be walking my roof several times a year even though we're occasional weekend travelers at best.

Hello, I'm a subscriber of your channel and been RVing since I bought my first Class A back in the very early 80s and I've owned a few since. I'm a 68yo retired Fleet Mamager with many ASE Certifications in the Automotive/HD Truck/Offroad Construction Equipmemt/Bus and Coach and lastly Municipal Law Enforcement Fleet Technician/Manager here in California. I practised my career for about 47 years, so about a year ago, I purchased a 100% mint in and out with beautiful gellcoat as well as the painted areas around the skirt and storage compartments. It's a 2003 35-foot gasoline model Fleetwood Bounder with only 22K original miles, 2 very large slides, a Workhorse W22 chassis with an 8.1 GM powerplant and an Allison Transmission. I believe it must have been always garaged since the roof, sides and both caps are spotless. So I have a question regarding this "roof washing and conditioning" video, in it you used and showed a particular product which by your own admission, "was NOT your favorite product", so to my question, you, as an RV Tech, WHAT WOULD BE your favorite product to wash and condition the roof of my rig?. Although very clean, I'd like to wash and condition the roof and have a "starting point" (so-to-speak) so I can then address it every other year after. I'd truly appreciate your input and assistance...Thanks brother!..✌️👍

From info I’ve gathered in past videos and on his TikTok page I think he’d recommend dicor cleaning and conditioning solutions. That’s what made my decision when I cleaned my roof this week with the dicor products.

Enjoyed the video! Some of those roof treatments/conditioners can be a double edged sword. If the wrong product is used and/or the conditioner isn’t used regularly they can dry out the membrane and make it chalky which in turn can result in a more rapid deterioration of the roof membrane. This can also happen by using the wrong chemicals. Also the more you walk on and scrub on the roof the faster the membrane will wear.

Thankyou for the video! I know others have asked what your ‘preferred’ cleaner is….so I will ask, ‘can you give us a clue’ as to the product of choice?

The roof membrane is exposed to UV rays and road grime from truck exhaust as well as other chemicals . Cleaning does remove those. Even with all that, over time, reguardless of what you do, that membrane needs replacement.

Great vid! How about rv roofs that may be covered by lots of solar cells. I'm saying like 85 or 90% covered? I would assume they protect the roof membrane under them from UV, but I would still think some cleaner and treatment would be good under there. Plus all those mount areas...

How about the pressure test they try to sell? I asked a dealer to do a roof inspection, they told me the only thing they can offer is a pressure test and spray soapy water around the camper. Check for leaks. That was 5 years ago and I was new to camper maintenance needs. I really wanted the sealant to be inspected. I had a non walkable roof on my camper so I wanted them to do it. I now have a bigger 5th wheel with a walkable roof and ladder. No more dealership for me for my maintenance. If there is something I can not handle you can expect to here from me. Since I understand you are in my area. Great videos. Thanks.

That is a seal tech test. Which can be effective but not very effective on the roof. If they can’t find a void in a roof without a special machine you need a new dealer.

Thank you for this! New RV owner here, could you tell me how often cleaning my tankless water heater is really needed? I am a stationery full timer and use a good quality water filter as well. I've already heard so many different things from every couple of months to once a year, no matter if full-time or not. Appreciate your expert opinion. 😊

We need to do our roof bad! We noticed the roof membrane had a gap right where the roof gutter meets. making a huge gap for water that came in! How do you fix that? Just Roof sealant? 😮

I have a couple of spots on my roof membrane that looks to be cracking or was cut. Can I touch these up with sealant or should I have it replaced. There appears to be no leaks at this time.

When you Wash it yourself. With a little dawn and bleach., And get all the bleach off. Is it okay to condition it with baby oil?

Another big bearded RV tech on KZbin recommend you do not brush your roof because it is such a thin membrane any extra wear on it would be detrimental. He said to just spray and rinse. What is your opinion on this? Also what is your favorite roof product?

Using a soft deck brush will not effect your RV roof. If the roof is that brittle it would be time to consider a replacement
@martinasaxton70337 ай бұрын
Oh my, EVERYTHING I have heard says to use a very soft brush and no elbow grease, to not harm the membrane! Your brush looks awfully hard!
@Thatrvtech7 ай бұрын
On modern RV roofs a brush like this will do no harm. On an old rubber roof you may want to take it easy, but if the roof is that brittle or falling apart it’s time to replace the membrane anyway
