Thank you for sharing your experience about how social media impacted your business and the strategy that you adopted. I find it really hard to understand what works and what doesn't, especially since a lot of content around that topic is produced by people trying to sell their services as social media gurus with doubtful credentials. Social media and the globalization of small businesses sure opened up a huge array of opportunities that didn't exist before in terms of markets but also access to learning or creativity boost coming from all the resources and inspiration available online. All the while it is also overwhelming at times to compare oneself with world class leathercraft artists and to have to learn how to become a professional level photographer, video editor, marketer...on top the initial goal which was to be a successful small scale artisan.

We completely agree. It can be very overwhelming. I find most people are the ones standing in their own way. But just getting started and learning from your experience is key to any success. Whether you decide as a business to continue to make content in house or hire someone to help or decide its the wrong strategy all together. You can only find out through trying. That's why I think its important to be easy on yourself and just try to showcase what you're already up to and not try to create a feature film (unless you really have a passion for that). You'll get better as time goes on if you stick with it. It's all a matter of what you want out of your business. If you want to be bigger than a one person show, eventually how you structure your time will have to change from just making to the marketing side. We can also get stuck chasing vanity metrics like follower count and likes. Its in our human nature to do that. Not always an easy thing to navigate.
