Kaki's RNY Journey

Kaki's RNY Journey

Күн бұрын

I am a gastric bypass post-op patient who also happens to be a primary health care provider. After many years talking to and treating patients on their own weight loss surgery journeys, I decided to have surgery myself. On my channel I discuss my own challenges, successes and updates regarding the process.

Very interesting video. My tastes have definitely changed. I used to avoid anything with chilli but now like food with a bit of spice. I cannot even stand the smell of artificial protein these days, protein shakes literally make me want to throw up. Never liked oysters, now love them. Salads are one of the foods I eat a lot of as I can eat quite a bit of it before I get full. Have always eaten a lot of fruit, but don’t like the smell or texture of bananas anymore but still love all other fruit.

another great video Kaki! I'm 6 mos post-op and I am finding I'm really sensitive to some/most artificial sweeteners and sweets that I used to like are just way too sweet! I can't even really taste, for instance if it's PB cookies, all I taste is the sugar and no pb at all. My newest obsession is fruits too! And I have to have a little real peanut butter every day.

I am 15 months post off. And I have never liked spicy foods but, as I was recovering from surgery and moving along on my journey, I now find that I want more spicier foods that I never would have eaten before.

totally agree about craving salad - when you can't have it post-op, you want it so much more. and sugar, if you've had RNY, is a huge no-no - i'm still gripped about just the potential of getting dumping syndrome, here 10 months post-op. i was a sugar eater before surgery - i want nothing to do with it now - even in fruit! i will only take on berries... i'm the one still healing 10 months post op, with very little tolerance to any kind of food, and even water. i have to mix water with powdered electrolytes to prevent nausea. another thing i've noticed, is not just the tastes that change, but also for me, it's been about texture as well. Food, most all sorts, feels "foamy" in my mouth, that may be a hard adjective to relate to, but that's pretty much what it is - food just feels spongy and foamy and well, weird, in my mouth. Again - anyone reading my comments, please know my case is odd - my doctors can't quite figure me out. 10 months post-op, and i'm still on Premier Protein shakes and aloha bars... Kaki - i hope it's ok with you to present my case experiences here in your comments - i'm hoping and praying that someone will read and perhaps comment back with similar experiences...i just don't know what to do anymore...i can't eat...i am loosing too much...

Hey there! Has your team done any testing, like an EGD or imaging to try to assess what the problem might be?

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 Thank you for the reply and attempt to help me - much appreciated. In short, yes - around month 2 post op - they went in and "widened" the entry into my pouch...for two days after that, i thought i was starting to feel "normal" - then...back to the same. Nausea, nausea, nausea - food or water - just the thought of food, makes me nauseated... And it's weird food my pouch can handle - like popcorn! or cheese and crackers- though i try very little of any kinds of new foods. only eat dabs, when i eat. the worst? protein in flesh form, like salmon or chicken or turkey - i've never been a red meat eater, so i must rely on these - but they cause me the urps...hence, the premier protein shakes, which i am completely sick and tired of, but which are also probably, saving my life... meanwhile, honestly? i feel like my team has checked out. they're "tired" of hearing from me, probably frustrated they can't help. at this point, i'm simply waiting for my one year check up in two months, where i meet with my surgeon again, and see what he has to say...not encouraged however...

@@bionance How discouraging! Especially about your team "checking out". I thought it sounded like a stricture from the symptoms that you were describing. It is very possible for this to happen again. Definitely bring that up to your surgeon. I would encourage you to check out this channel on TikTok. This lady had bypass and had numerous strictures early in her journey. She is doing great now after multiple dilations: www.tiktok.com/@lisabrunolli?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 thank you again for your reply and help. watched your suggestion - not the same. i have discounted another stricture, b/c my symptoms are so very different now, than they were before that got dealt with soon after surgery. then, food was lodging - also b/c i wasn't chewing well enough! - such that it would literally take HOURS to get over an 'episode'. you know, with full on mouth salivation, non-stop, during those hours. and needing/wanting to throw up, but couldn't. and poking a toothbrush down my throat to attempt to. nothing like that now, thank God! only nausea. also, zero appetite. it's soooo hard to eat with no appetite! i've even tried weed, which does nothing for my appetite but *completely* controls my nausea! if you're suggesting imagery may reveal something else? i will surely ask this of my surgeon...so.completely.frustrated thank you again - libby
