Hi Kaki I’m a new subscriber and had my surgery 3 weeks ago . Love your transparency and honesty . I wonder why only egg whites are allowed and not the full egg post surgery

Congrats on your surgery!! My program allowed whole eggs, but I could only tolerate the egg whites- the yolks made me super nauseous. It could be your program adapted to this to save folks going through those symptoms. I was probably six mos post op before I could eat the whole egg.

I am schedule for gastric bypass in December! Wondering how you lost so much weight? My expected weight loss is 80 lbs, which would be great for my health but still will leave me in the obese range and that is not my goal!
@kakisrnyjourney5376
@kakisrnyjourney5376 3 күн бұрын
Hi there! I am actually still in the "obese" weight range even after a 138 lb loss. Sometimes getting below that is not a realistic goal. The truth is, after years of being obese, our bodies, namely our skeletons and organs remodel to accommodate our weight. That does not change. Shooting for a number on the scale that is "normal" for someone who has never been obese is usually not realistic. Most people find that if they can get to a BMI of 30'ish they look and feel fabulous. I did a video on setting realistic goals- check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip2Vk52DbMxro80 Hope this helps!

Hi Kaki! Question: can we do keto after bariatric surgery?
@kakisrnyjourney5376
@kakisrnyjourney5376 9 күн бұрын
Hi there! It depends on how you define keto. The recommended diet after surgery is definitely low carb, but not the high fat that is traditionally found with keto. The majority of your post op calories should be from protein, and high fat does make some post op patients have GI distress.

That is awesome!! I know that had to feel amazing. My absolute favorite granola protein bars are so hard to get :-( They are manufactured by Dive Bar and only available from their website, and seem to be out of stock all the time. When they do come in stock, I order a whole bunch! If I can't get those, I buy the Nature's Valley protein granola bars. The macros are not as good, but they are not overly sweet, which tends to make me nauseous.

Ohh skipping down “name that diet” lane was eye opening! Like you I feel like I was on them all. 😮 I did several of the diets you shared about. The one I was most successful on was a plan that used HCG in a drops form. Drops were used 3x day with a 500 calorie diet in 30-45 day periods. The foods were basically protein chicken lean beef shrimp fish with specific veggies no sugar nor complex carbs.. .you know the drill. I was on this plan for @ 18m and lost 90lbs. Well you know eating 500 calories a day is NOT sustainable. When I started adding food and even reasonable potions back in I gained back @50lbs. Good news was many of my habits were changed and I kept off some of the weight and high blood pressure was resolved. Just enough to make me below BMI for surgery! So oddly enough I was frustrated that because of that diet surgery wasn’t an option. But then came the pandemic and all that being at home and eating my emotions I gained weight. In July 2022 I was at 255 lbs knees aching and miserable. BMI was in the range and I was a candidate for surgery due to med history. I also think it was right timing as obesity was really being addressed as a disease. 10.31.2022 I had GB surgery. SW 245 today I range between 131-135. I’m happy; healthy; no more knee aches. Yesterday I spent the day walking all over Disney Magic Kingdom and I felt great! I’m thankful and grateful for this tool and sometimes wonder why did I wait so long to consider this option! 😊 Thanks for the walk down memory lane so I can be even more thrilled about where I am today! P.S. I found your videos when I was @3m post op so you were @2 months you’ve been such a blessing! Thank you for being open and transparent so others can make decisions that are right for them. ❤️

Hi Kaki, I've tried quite a few of those you named. Where I live there is/was a local health store that sold a course of pills I tried that only sent me to the toilet and had me almost fainting away from dehydration 😅 Another one I tried caused chest pains to the point where I had problems taking a good breath. A second back injury led me to finally follow through with bariatric surgery and as you said my only regret is that I should have done it sooner.😊

Hi Kaki, thank you for your videos. I found you right before I had my own surgery Oct. 10, 2023, so I'm a week away from one year. I'm down 140 pounds and couldn't be happier. I did not struggle with weight until after I had my baby and had a few medical problems at the same time. Then my weight more than doubled in about 15 years. I tried calorie restriction, exercise, Paleo and finally, keto. I had great success with keto and lost 53 pounds in 6 months, but then started getting gall bladder attacks. After having the gall bladder removed I couldn't digest the high fat content of a keto diet and approached my doctor about her thoughts on bariatric surgery. She said she would make the referral. After over a year of doctor's appointments and training classes that are a mandatory part of having your surgery covered in Canada, I got my gastric bypass done. I would love to hear any statistics you have on rates of long-term success and failure. I have lost more than the 80% of excess fat they promised was possible with the surgery, but would love to better understand what my chances of long-term success might be. How to best avoid regain and the pitfalls that might cause regain. Thank you for all you do, you've been an inspiration and a sort of companion on my journey.

What if you will be having to cook for a family of four? I’ve just started my journey. Having weight loss visits with my pcp monthly which the bariatric surgery center requires. And I’m scared. I think the key is cooking a protein that you all enjoy and can eat, and then building around it for different needs and tastes. For example, if you cook roast, you can have that (when you are able to in your plan) and then you have something like green beans or another non-starchy veggie and prepare something like Mac and cheese or potatoes for them. Honestly, everyone would be better off health wise if we all reduced simple carbs in our diet. It takes some planning to make things work in different situations, but it is so worth it!

Do you still have the large restriction? I have found I can eat up to 2000 calories, if a lot of them are cracker type foods. I am 18 months out and feel like I can eat like a normal person (minus sugar, lettuce, rice, raw veg) but can overeat.
@qq1651

I wish I had some of these to help me. Since day one, I have not had the restriction that most have had/have, I dont ever get sick either. Once, when I went 2 days without much protein I did experience low sugar with the shakes and dizziness and that was no fun. But other than not taking Advil (which I REALLY miss) I have no other things that I cant do or any benefits that I would list as weight loss "tools" from my surgery. Unfortunately, I can eat and drink anything as long as I get in some protein with 2-3 meals a day. I too eat every 3 hours and I have to MAKE myself wait that long. I just dont think that my surgery was done the same or something. I only ended up losing about 35 pounds permanently.
