Honestly, Magellan protecting Dofy makes a lot of sense. He was always adamant about protecting the lives of the inmates, unless they are trying to escape. If the prisoners could or would just be executed, there wouldnt be need for a prison at all. Killing prisoners is exactly why Shiryu was imprisoned, so him sticking to his integrity makes sense. also I dont think Magellan said the prison flooded, he said: "That one meter rise the other day .... .... Had the prison panicking... How many meters does it take to sink the whole world?" The impel down was most likely dry, but the one meter increase would increase all of the pressure the prison is under by about 1 unit for every meter the prison is tall, which could compromise its integrity in its entirety. Its not that the prison will leak and let water in, its that the prison is literally being squashed by the weight of the ocean.

I think the most interesting part of their back and forth in chapter 1114 is Magellan asking Doflamingo, “How many meters does it take to sink the world?” It seems like a simple question but Magellan probably has no idea. But the way that he phrases it seems to imply that Magellan is confident that Doffy would know the answer. And of course that answer is 5m would swallow most cities. Magellan asking that question seems to imply that Doffy knows a lot about the true nature of the world to which Magellan and us as readers are oblivious. I wouldn’t be surprised if Magellan has been swayed by Doffy somehow.

A similar part is more about Magellan sticking to his own justice, kinda being a pseudo-Admiral in terms of role. What Magellan was more concerned about, if I recall correctly, was more about the consequences of losing the prisoners. Also, executions of prisoners for reasons that aren't Magellan's are something Magellan proved he was against in Impel Down; it's half the point of the Shiryu conflict. As for executions, weren't executions literally part of Magellan's warden powers in case of emergency anyway? EDIT: I now have an image of Minotaurus not just being HR but the primary recruiter. Imagine that job fair on a random island. You've got the World Economic Times, a random bakery, wapol's medical team, marine recruiters, maybe Paulie from Water 7, a couple of local restaurants, Baratie staff, insurance salespeople, Minotaurus, and a staffing agency utilizing the Sora comic to front for research for the Germa.

1. The world government really cares about appearances, so they wouldn't give the order to officially execute Doffy unless it was public. So they probably hired a third party to do it. Magellan could easily believe it's more likely that people are trying to break Doffy out rather than kill him. 2. Magellan has always been strongly against prisoner execution. He even locked up his own jailer for it. 3. If Magellan was so distraught he was willing to take his own life but got given another chance to work, there is no way he's letting his highest profile prisoner disappear under any circumstances.

The thing to realize is that Magellan is just doing things by the book. If the WG decided to officially execute Doffy he'd be the one to deliver him to the block. But he won't stand from another "incident" in his prison. Btw, it makes no sense for Doffy to know much about anything. Given that he was a little kid when they left and his dad doesn't strike me as the one to tell anything to his kids about that. Megallan is insanely powerfull, just like Cesar, because his fruit attacks with science. Haki ain't protecting you from poisons/venom or gas/no O2

I love Magellan, but Doffy would wreck him. Pre-time skip Luffy with some wax was giving it to Magellan. Luffy needed Gear 4 to beat Doffy and even then he needed to use it twice because once wasn’t enough. Doffy is confirmed to use haki as well where as I don’t believe we have ever gotten confirmation Magellan can use it. He might have always just relied on his poison for all we know.

Idk i always kinda figured the although the Marines are PART of the wrold goverment they still kinda fall under seperate flags. If the marines were gonna execute him it would be fine but a public execution with what Doffy knows would be disatreous. But the world nobles or Gorosei sending an assassin theyre not gonna tell Mangellan, the less everyone knows the better. Literally though. People say that he got wrecked by Luffy, but they forget that he'd already been fighting Law and Luffy for hours, he had half his organs basically demolished that he was fixing at the time, he had the birdcage going over Dressrosa which is apparently the size of Australia, he was controlling people in the streets to kill others, plus he tanked Law and Luffy's hits multiple times. Luffy had to take multiple breaks and he had significant help from Law and others. If it had been a straight 1V1 fight from the start of Luffy vs Doflamingo, Doffy would have absolutely won.

My theory is that Magellan and Doffy knew each other before Doffy was imprisoned. Like we know Doffy was THE underground broker, so who's to say Magellan didn't use him to get extra stuff for the prison, or for himself (we know the WG used him)? Maybe they already had a close business relationship before this and, knowing Doffy, he would be using that to his advantage to manipulate Magellan into doing what he wants. Doffy is the master manipulator after all and Magellen doesn't really seem to be all that emotionally intelligent. That whole scene with them in the recent chapter where they're chatting like old friends and Magellan is super chill around him seems to be showing that Doffy's got him where he wants him and is going to leverage that to get out. Honestly, that would be pretty fire. Doffy manipulating the wardens and prisoners onto his side to breakout and then basically having a much bigger and more terrifying crew when he escapes. Imagine the chaos he could inflict. Maybe then he could use that to join Cross Guild as well, which would only up the stakes even higher.

Ya know if you think about it Magellan is actually quirky enough to be a spy for Doflamingo. I mean just look at his elite officers. You got Vergo who gets food stuck on his face, Pica who has a comical, high-pitched voice, Trebol who gets too close to people's faces, Diamante who denies flattery until it stops, and though not an elite officer Baby 5 who can't say no to anyone really. Magellan and him eating his poison and sitting on the shitter most of the day fits into that quirky pattern so he could've been on Doffy's side from the start like Vergo. That said Magellan is a good marine and warden but so was Vergo til that mask crumbled. If nothing else I could see Doflamigo convincing Magellan to work with him and am convinced Doffy could walk out of that cell at any point he wishes. We all know Doffy is ballsy and doesn't fear much, but there had to be a reason he was so unbothered by everything after his defeat aside from being a sociopath.

The way I see it is that Magellan feels like he can not pass judgment on prisoners so long as they ‘stay in line’. He actively tries to preserve his prisoners, outside of damage caused by their sentences, until they rebel against him. After all, the only prisoners we’ve seen him attack were escapees.

as i finished typing this I did just think "Also where tf is Lafite?" and the fact that this assassin is in impel down but hasn't been found I highly doubt they're in New Kama Land( level 5.5) and he's also the only BB pirate we haven't seen doing things besides getting into Marijos (spelt it wrong ik) undetected whilst there being people there with observation haki wouldnt be surprised if Sengoku had advanced obv n he still couldn't detect him so that kinda adds up to how this assassin is in impel down completely undetected not even a dead body from a guard that saw him by accident (which usually happens when assassins are found out by connecting the dots of where n when the body was found and how they died)

Another possibility for why Magellan would protect Doflamingo? To fend off anyone who comes to kill and/or interrogate the prisoner without World Government authorization. While the staff and setup of the rest of Impel Down should in theory make it harder for any opportunistic pirates trying to take his secrets for their own use, the combination of Shiki floating away, Newkama Land forming in the "Level 5.5" tunnels Morley made, and everything that happened as a result of Blackbeard capturing Ace likely convinced the Gorosei that more security precautions were needed. Especially for a prisoner like Doflamingo.

100%. I think Magellan being presumably the best fit for Impel Down warden the WG could find (after Shiryu ofc) is a factor that matters A LOT when trying to scale him. He might not be a particularly skilled 1v1 fighter, sure. At least until we get more feats from him, I’m okay with the idea that he loses against every Admiral and Yonko in a pitched battle. But, some of his data, including AP, HAS to be somewhere in the Admiral-to-Yonko range for Magellan to be a fit for the jailer for the worst prisoners in the world.

As for the versus, I absolutely agree that as soon as Magellan goes into Venom Demon, it's a guaranteed loss for Doflamingo. It's one of the few awakenings that's shown to have spread to people, not just the environment. If you get hit by it at all, it spreads and kills you.

I agree, although this whole versus is based on the fact that the battle takes place inside. One of the advantages of the string-string-fruit is its ability to fly. Also, not even Fujitora was able to stop the birdcage, so if the fight takes place on Doflamingo's terms, he'll win.

09:24 probably magellan is pissed at the gvt for not going after the escapees , it was one of the factors that led sengoku to retire after all in my opinion. Like i assume he subscribes to the same philosophy hanyaball displayed at that "you shall not pass" scene with luffy (even more, considering hanyabal was the one saying it and he's way less honorable than magellan ). And what the govt did is at complete odds with their sense of justice.

On saying Doflamingo doesn't have that strong haki; his Bird Cage was indestructible. No one and nothing could cut it, not even Zoro. If that wasn't using haki, then he's more terrifying than we thought.

Tbh, I think Luffy could beat Magellan as early as return to sabody. We saw him take care of Ceasar, and he didn’t even have to use gear 4. Gear 5 would just be overkill shenaniganry
