Growing up, my grandmother got a Chihuahua and babied the hell out of it. He's a hell bastard. My grandmother passed away in 2011 and he was already ancient at that point 🤣. My mother inherited him and I've had to walk on eggshells everytime I visit home. He just won't die. Everytime I see the fucker, he has more energy and wants to fight. Just yesterday, I was bitten pretty good by this 16+ year old Chihuahua. The fact he's still alive cements, in my mind, that he's made some sort of pact with Beelzebub. He spent 3 years in a doggie wheelchair due to his hip... But now he's out of it. It makes no sense.

Well that's Chihuahua dog breed for ya (and Salmonella shows variations with short hair - but there is way more - ones with long hair look pretty decent.) This is an old dog breed not some recent new thing - It was created with PURPOSE - made into a very healthy breed (hence why yours just won't die), energetic, aggresive... - which is a PERFECT combination of traits... FOR RELENTLESS RAT EXTERMINATOR. Don't let small size fool you - this small dog looks like it made deal with Devil when it shows its teeth because most likely it did - from personal experience - I know people who had a wooden summer cottage where they go during summer - on trip back home they realise they forgot their timy devil there and worst of all most likely locked in an old storage under house infested with rats. They ride back expecting to find Chihuahua injured or dead - they find image of "I'M NOT LOCKED HERE WITH YOU - YOU'RE LOCKED HERE WITH ME" and 16 dead rats with a happy dog in the middle.

My neighbors had a dog, they found him as an abandoned puppy. They named him Hachiko (yeah same as the japanese dog) they named like that because he'd always wait for them patiently at their doorsteps. He even learned how to ride motorbike with his owner. He was a good boy, sadly he passed away last week due to old age. 😢

I was lucky in that aspect of my childhood. My friend had a chihuahua that was probably the most chill chihuahua on the planet. It's probably because her owners raised her right so she was acclimatized to strangers, but she never reacted badly when we came by the house. Mind you, she never looked pleased to see us, she just didn't give a crap, which is still better than losing her mind the moment you walk in the door.

Dachshunds actually where breed to be small enough to crawl into badger dens to “terminate” them. Rather than for looks.
@dontshanonau1335
@dontshanonau1335 2 жыл бұрын
Dackel (or, incorrectly, "Dachshunde") ARE functional. They are, as the incorrect English loanword says, "badger dogs", i.e. meant to hunt foxes and badgers below the ground in their holes. Hence the short legs. Although some people do overbreed them for a too lengthy body and too stubby legs.

My dad used to be a Rottweiler breeder, in an area where there was a lot of open land between houses. Semi-rural sort of edge of the city pocket neighbourhood so they were good watchdogs and kept some of the larger critters away. Those were dogs that were purpose bred for strength and work. He eventually gave up on it as it was getting more difficult to find suitable breeding mates that were also certified purebred along with general costs but it also let me see what proper breeding standards should be like and all the focus on breeding for unhealthy traits is unfortunate. Especially so that I happen to like pugs but I could never own one because of the guilt I would feel perpetuating their tortured existence.

My parents always got dogs from breeders so they could have some idea of what the dog's temperament would be in their adulthood, along with what kinds of health challenges or personality quirks they might face like hip dysplasia in Golden Retrievers and ankle-nipping in Corgis. These things can be particularly important when you're adopting a dog large enough to kill you if it wanted to. On one hand I understand dog breeding for that factor but I'm also very against the breeding of dogs to achieve certain deformities, such as the pug's flat face. If a certain breed-standard aspect of an animal can cause the animal suffering, it shouldn't be breed-standard imo. Especially in countries where dogs are primarily for companionship over the sort of work they are good at doing, breeding dogs for arbitrary "cuteness" factor at the expense of the animal's health is pretty gross to me. PS--any chance y'all might play Project Zomboid on the gaming channel? No pressure, I just think it'd be fun to watch and it's hot on Twitch right now so you'd probably pull a lot of views.

Chihuahuas (and most small dogs) are like that because owners don't train them because they think it's cute when their dog acts up lol. I used to work at a couple dog daycares and there were really chill chihuahuas. A lot of the trouble makers were larger breeds. Whenever this black lab named Hank would come in, we would have to hide and move paper towels because he would always jump for them. Also, we had quite a few troublemakers that were black labs. It's like they have dumbass chaotic energy lol. There was also a bloodhound mix named George who would just grab anything you left behind. And if he saw me or someone come in, he wouldn't bark, he would do this deep, loud howl. I'm not even sure he knows how to bark lol. However, I knew a pug named Maidel. She was so cute and I lowkey kind of spoiled her because she became so attached to me, she would chase me around and bite my ankles if I didn't hold her and I couldn't give in

Re: dogs bred to be hypoallergenic. I'm not so allergic to dogs that their presence bothers me immediately but I wouldn't be able to own most kinds of dog because of allergies. Hence I get dogs of a breed that's known to not cause an allergic response. And the only really reliable way to do that is via a breeder. I do feel a bit bad for not being able to adopt but it's not really by choice, it's that or no dog at all.

@@BeefMeisterSupreme Oh, thanks for clearing that up. Yeah I mean a lot of our modern health issues are a result of modern lifestyles, including the fact that we now survive things which would have killed us off in prior ages, resulting in more healthy adults on average in the past, because the unhealthy ones were dead. Doesn't mean that you can solve allergies by eating dirt. Weird assertion unless it's completely a joke.

Usually, breeding a chihuaha with something else takes care of the rage issues. I have a full chi, and she has issues with certain people. I have a chi mixed with a pekingese, and she loves EVERYONE! My folks went through a shop for the chi (if i had known, i would have told them not to). They went into the petshop to get stuff for an eventual dog because they were looking for one that they could agree on, and my mom fell in love with the pup that eventually became our first girl. The second one, they got off of a local seller website. Apparently, the lady hadnt spayed the mom because she was afraid after losing one during that operation previously, the dog got out once, and had met up with an unknown male while on her unauthorized leave. The mom was a chihuahua, but she had no clue who or what the dad was. To be honest, we aren't 100% sure if our 2nd girl is part pekingese, but we've looked up the cross, and it matches perfectly; even asked the vet what they thought and they said it was likely.

The only dogs I've ever had is a labrador and a bulldog. It was given by my father's boss (not sure why, I was still 8yo that time). The labrador is a very sweet dog (named her Candy because of how sweet she is) and the bulldog is Tom (his grey-white fur reminds me of Tom from Tom & Jerry). kept them for 2 years... before an unfortunate incident happens. me and family are out for the day but at night (we got home at 9PM, this happens around 8PM according to our neighbors), a burglar came and encountered them... Tom immediately ran off into his "den", while Candy confronted the burglar (apparently she was trained before, I only knew the fact afterwards). She bit the burglar on the neck and broke it off, but unfortunately she's also got stabbed in the chest and died from blood loss . :( it was a short period of time, but that is long enough to have emotional attachment to her... :')

As a lab owner, labs are heavily diverged from wolfs. First you need to breed newfoundlands. Then you need to controlling breed the newfies to be a Labrador. You then need to literally export all of the Labradors from Canada to the uk in the late 1800 to the uk. And then establish them then train, breed and make them the ideal gun dog sport shooting dog. Labs look like labs because the British basically controlled the breed and established extremely strict rules around their breeding due to the royal kennel club existing. If you want to stop dogs being destroyed expand dog breeding rules to those of the RKC and dogs health will improve as the organisation job literally is their to ensure good ethical treatment of animals including their breeding and has been since its founding.

Chihuahuas are... Like that, because since they're tiny and cause little damage compared to, say, a rottweiler, people don't train or discipline them and constantly baby them, so any bad behavior gets swept under the rug and then gets worse

Chihuahuas evolved in mexico in an area that wasn't friendly for small things so adapted to be territorial and aggressive to things they don't know, mix that with the fact that we don't generally see them as threatening to us many owners don't train the aggression out of them (not that it's garenteed for them to be so) just please make sure to train your animals and don't abuse them doing so

Which isn't bad- our dog is incredibly amazing- but now that I think about it I doubt I have the commitment to take care of something that needs that much extra attention. Id rather not put a living creature through that- not until I'm actually responsible-
