We did save our Labradors life with this many years ago when he swallowed a small ball that got caught in his esophagus. There was no time for a vet, he became unconscious, our only info came from a first aid pet book with pictures but we had 15 more years with our lab because of the heimlich maneuver

Many years ago I took the first aid class for people and they taught us how to do the Heimlich on people children and babies. A few weeks later my 95# dog choked. I used the exact thing on her that I learned to do on people. It took 2 tries but it popped right out thank God. I barely outweighed her then so to lift her up like that was impossible. I was afraid I'd break something but she was fine. Blessings. Learned that lesson just in time!

This is good to know! I know someone who lost a dog to a choking accident a longtime ago but I wasn't there when it happened. They watched him choke to unconsciousness and then they couldn't revive him.... Please treat Jessie to a ride somewhere. He deserves it.

I just watched a segment on tv about a family who had a choking emergency for their dog who died because a) the emergency operator said they don’t rescue animals ( WTH??! Actually I said something else but I’m trying to be polite here) and b) the fire station WOULD have helped as they’re trained to do so... but they were never notified...fire station was 1.5 miles away) and last, but not least, the poor family didn’t know this maneuver. Quite probably their dog would be alive today had they known how to do this. Very, very sad. And Jessie is an absolute champ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

My dog once choked on a chicken bone, he was running around panicking. My mom was the only person with him at that time and she couldn't help him beacause he would growl at her whenever my mom tried to touch him. He just kept on running around until he hit our gate and the chicken bone flew out of his mouth. I'm just grateful he's alive and this video might come in handy if an incident like that ever happens again although I hope it won't.

Today my Yorkie Terrier Mix got a Greenie and the last part he decided to shove in his mouth, and he began to make this sneeze type sound (He makes it when hes choking) and ended up spatting out both parts of the last of the Greenie. Now I am happy I know how to dislodge something in a dog's throat, because my little dog is a walking, furry, curly-haired pig!

the first part I would do, is LOOK in to see what's lodged and get it OUT! Not blow in his mouth. and make it worse.
