Thank you, Melanie, for this brilliant video. 👍❤ I'm a home groomer with a trade background, and I've always bought quality tools. The importance of proper maintenance can never be overstated. I learnt in this video to slide the moving blade aside to expose usually hidden parts for proper cleaning. Awesome.

Great video!! Instead of pushing half of the blade out each side, can we push the whole blade out to clean then put it back in? Thank you.
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes you can but the only problem is that it’s hard to get back in as you have to wedge something in between the bracket and the blade to lift it to slide the blade through. I hope that makes sense 💕

Great video! Can the 4F blade be used on a pom/shih tzu for matted areas? Not severely matted but just enough to give the dog a newer coat. Thank you!!
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
It will depend on how bad the matting is, and if the blade can smoothly go under the matting. When you start to force the blade that's when you can cut your dog, if the blade will not go underneath the matting drop to a #5.

Do you see a difference between the consistency and evenness of a cut when using a blade versus a guard? Or plastic blade versus metal/steel?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use metal snap on attachment comb they glide through the coat easier. yes, when using attachment combs you will need to go over and cross check the coat to make sure the coat is even, more so than a blade. I hope this helps :)

I just picked up an Oster golden A5 at a sale for $5. It has two #10 wide blades. I can't seem to find any comb sets for the wider blades on Ebay?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the blade, but there is many wide tooth snap on combs available. I would recommend buying new blades, that are compatible with the snap on attachment combs💓

So informative, thank you. How do you know when you need to have the blades sharpened and your clippers serviced? Thanks
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 4 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome Louise , when the blades become blunt you will feel the blades snag on the coat and begin jam up , they won’t cut as well and kind of drag through the coat, not cut through smoothly. With clippers you will hear them become noisey and rattle when the tongue wears down, you will notice with more use the tongue wear , the edges will get rounded. Hope that helps.

I’m still unclear on which snap ons make hair longer and which shorter. Can someone help?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Edge, the lengths are generally written on the combs , for example 1/2 “ , 3/4 “ etc.. hope that helps

@@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials it doesn’t help I’m sorry. I don’t know if that means it takes that much off or leaves that much. I have yet to find a video that explains what that means and which combs to use for which desired cut

@@edgegymnastics8409 I have the same question, I find it confusing.
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
The number on the snap on combs is the length of hair that will be left on the body. It’s up to the owner of the dog to what length is used, if you would like a shorter length you would use the 1/2” snap on or a longer length would be 1”. You can also use a shorter length on the body and then longer length on the legs. 🌸

Hi! Are steel snap on combs from Wahl, Moser, Oster and Andis the same quality and have the same tooth stabilty? They look the same, almost identical (and have identical boxes and colormarks).

@@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials Thank you! I checked, but I need some of the shorter that are not included. Maybe I buy some of the longer Oster separately, cause the other brands does lack those long instead. ^_^

What if the blade comes all the way out? And if that little white plastic guard pops off? How do you put it back on?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
If that happens, pop the white guard back on then pop a flat head screwdriver 🪛 in between the bottom and top part (that has the white guard on it) and wedge it open and and side the bottom blade in. Hope that makes sense 💕

What about disinfecting, thats what i thought when you said cleaning. The blades have to cut around some nasty stuff from butts and privates. We should always disinfect between dogs to not spread anything from dog to dog !
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
yes, of course clean between each dog. When I clean, I clean with warm soapy water, dry, then disinfect.
