A wild rat/mouse scratch or bite should be taken just as seriously if a wolf, coyote, opossum, raccoon, squirrel, cat, or dog did it. A pet is a pet, and a pest is a pest. It's as simple as that. I was just pointing out that the real cause of the plague was an even smaller pest.

Domesticated rats actually make great pets as long as you: adopt them in pairs (they are the smartest and most social rodent), have a big enough cage filled with accessories, and give them attention everyday (they bond with their human quickly). They also groom themselves and each other just as much, if not more than cats (thus also making them the cleanest rodent). Then again you're probably freaking out about the idea of having rats as pets even though the ones I'm talking about have been domesticated for over 100 years. Which is funny because most rat owners I see on KZbin are women. Who you'd think would be the most afraid to get pet rats. As I pointed out in my last reply: this wild rat is a pest, but that's my point: all wild animals are pests. A flea ridden coyote probably has the same diseases that a tiny norway rat has. The only difference being that the rat is smaller, smarter, and reproduces faster than the coyote. All wild animals should be approached with caution regardless of the situation. Failure to do so will most likely result in the animal attacking you out of fear, and if that happens immediate medical attention is needed to prevent any possible diseases from spreading.

Ok now this is wild. I have 4 dogs. Due to a royal screwing by a contractor, my house was basically open to the outside. We got a rat and this big bad boi was yuge. The Chihuahua practiced for DAYS how to squeeze under the china cabinet. Took her bout a week. Then one night- KAPOW!! GRACIE nd Romy chase Ratsso to the "safety" of the china cabinet. Chi cht dives under and drags Ratso out and Daisy ( big lab/bloodhound mix) snaps his neck. What I'm saying is THEY PLANNED THIS AND EXECUTED FLAWLESSLY, even to the point of posing proudly "HERE HE US, GRANDMA! THIS LIL' BASTARD AINT GONNA CHEW YOUR WASHING MACHINE HOSE EVER AGAIN." I would not allow my dog or cat to kill a rat because they carry disease which could kill a dog or cat not to mention poison. A rat or a mouse can tolerate a certain amount of poison. A dog or cat can't. So if a dog or cat kills and eats a mouse or rat who has eaten poisen of course the dog or cat will die. There is also rabies and filthy places a mouse or rat will dwel, dead animals maggots etc.

Had mice in my house, and I slept on the floor One day I felt a tingling on my back and so I rolled over, because I assumed it was a fake out The idea of a spider crossed my mind though so I decided to look where’d I’d rolled over A baby mouse I quickly realized I’d had a curious little baby decide to investigate what humans were like, and I did not appreciate it I figured though, since he wasn’t running, I’d use this chance to see how my dog reacts to rodents I got my dog and brought him to the mouse and my dog did NOTHING, at one point, the mouse even hid in my dog’s fur because it was AFRAID OF ME I figured my dog was hopeless, he’d never be good at pest control Until a few nights later, I’m trying to sleep when my dog leaves my bed, goes to the door to my bathroom and I hear his collar shaking wildly, before he gives a couple barks, so I tell him to come back to bed, which he does Next morning, I wake up, head to my bathroom And see a dead mouse at the doorway to the bathroom I came to the only logical conclusion: my dog had killed the mouse the night before My dad later confirmed my suspicions that my dog was able to catch and kill mice when he found a mouse corpse at the top of the basement stairs I guess my dog just didn’t want to kill a baby, which is fair
