dogman series is absolute 🔥 along with the author’s unique creative choices about how it weaves heart into the story (as Jeremy mentioned), it’s actually the comic strip gags that make it undeniably good; ie consistent solid panel set-ups and punchlines even the basic concept for the origin story of the franchise character is a good example of just how simple & quick yet effective the jokes can be. …and I would say the author pivoting from a guy in his underwear to an adorable copdog was a good call

You won't regret it man. The generational jerk thing was really heartfelt. The disney animated Robin Hood. It was one of the best movies ever when I was 5 and is still one of the best movies ever as a 23 year old. It feels so whinsical and fun with fantastic characters. That movie fits a mood I suspect no other movie will ever succeed in replicating.

Took my 9yo daughter to see DogMan, and neither of us were familiar with the books, and now.... I am picking up a boxset tonight. It's great to see book adaptations to movies, where the animators and director really get the source material. While the premise and story are completely ridiculous it also has like really powerful messages that young people need to hear.
@DHynes56 күн бұрын
0:33 To give you context, the Dog-Man series is essentially a spin-off from Captain Underpants. In one of the last books, it's explained that the character of Dog-Man was created by George and Harold when they were five (which is why logistically it wouldn't make sense for the biological switch but it still works). The little comic George and Harold made in the book proved to be very popular as it became its own series when Captain Underpants ended. It's a shame Jeremy never reviewed Captain Underpants when it came out in 2017. Genuinely a spot-on adaptation that holds up!

3:15 Easy answer for that. Coraline, yes I know the book it's based off of was made by a not so great person,but there rest of the cast and crew who put so much creativity into the style,direction and animation. The movie is timeless to me and there hasn't been anything like it since.

To answer your end of video question, Jeremy, I and my parents have been watching all the mainline Disney animated movies, and it's been fun rediscovering some old classics I haven't seen since I was about five and finding them still holding up, like Peter Pan, and I had a really good time rewatching The Fox and the Hound. I have a local theater that is basically always matinee prices. $5 per ticket and they are one of the only ones freshly popping popcorn as well and for half the price of the chains. Gotta support local businesses if we want affordable theaters and avoid these overpriced chain theaters.
@amysantangelo996 күн бұрын
I have an 8-year-old, so we’re very familiar with this series. I can tell you that the deeper themes and “heart” of the story is intentionally woven into the more slapstick moments - most book titles are plays on one of the classics (For Whom the Bell Tolls, a Tale of Two Cities, Lord of the Flies), and the themes handle things like prejudice, personal growth, abandonment, reconciliation, and the realisation that not everyone can be rehabilitated. These heavy topics are balanced out by generous servings of poop and fart jokes, and all of it is enjoyed by my kid

I don't know why, but I didn't laugh even once when I saw "Dog Man" at the movie theater just now. Maybe because the trailers gave away too many spoilers? The ending did take me by surprise since I love the character development of multiple characters, but some parts also mildly depressed me. Cute movie!
@gerstein033 күн бұрын
The fact that the premise of the movie is so outlandishly stupid stems from the fact that the original graphic novel is supposed to be a tie in to the Captain Underpants books. Within the context of that series, Dog-Man is a comic book written by a pair of third graders. That's just something I like about it. The fact that it's stupid and absurd even by cartoon logic is fully intentional

Always nice to hear when there is a movie that's good for both kids and adults. I actually watched "Animaniacs" for the first time several years ago and really enjoyed it - I definitely would not have picked up on a number of the jokes they had in there if I had watched it as a kid when it originally aired. Another good series (that spun-off from it) was "Pinky and the Brain", which again had a lot of jokes that I understood as an adult and probably would have missed if I had watched it as a kid in the 90s.

Glad to see that Jeremy liked it. Two things other things worth noting aside from this being the feature length directorial debut of Peter Hastings, they did update the DreamWorks logo, replacing the Bad Guys with Roz and Baby Brightbill from The Wild Robot, and for the Shrek portion they now added Gingy standing on Donkey's back. Additionally there is a Bad Guys short that plays before the film.

the important thing to know about the dog man comics is that there is an amazing meta joke of the in universe writers being kids who don't understand the implications of what they are writing. so to a kid reading it its goofy and funny while an adult would look at it and think about how weirdly dark and deep it gets. my little cousin was describing one of the books to me and at some point it felt like he was explaining an A24 horror/drama like it was a comedy. these books are like a new Adventure Time and having a movie based off of it is so good.
