I think the biggest mistake in this video is the lady owner of the Malenoi under the illusion that her 12 month old dog is popping over to break up dog fights..and by Roberts body language ( folded arms and then folded legs) he didn't agree but diplomatically explained why that's not the case. Dog parks are the worst place to take your dog

They really are. The only one I go to is my neighborhood one. It’s small and we have a meetup at the same time every evening. Everyone knows each other and we correct both our own and each other’s dogs so everything is mostly controlled. Ive never seen any other park like that, and we even have a separate area that unfamiliar or typically more aggressive dogs are designated to. Probably the only dog park I’ll ever go to.

Accepting that my dog has this kind of prey drive has been a breakthrough in keeping us both out of trouble, and me from being disappointed with her behavior. Spot on video. There is a switch in malinois and when it gets thrown there isn't any stopping them. Even with the ecollar at full power she just ignores it. Much safer for everyone to know how to handle them. Like the man says every dog he's seen get put down he hears they never did anything like that before. Don't give them the chance, keep them and yourself safe .

Anytime someone comes to the house and asks if they bite I always say yes even though they most likely won’t unless provoked. Besides my fence they are the first line of protection. This common mistake ignorant owners make. They apply human behavior interpretation on dogs! Dogs don't go make peace for others. They get in to establish the order their ways. People need to pass dog behavior classes, before they can have their dogs in public (not just dog parks). Have to stop going dog parks long time ago because ignorant owners. Lucky me, there is a club in my area that I can get my dog socialize and exercise.

I just got a mixed Malinois . She was shy and cute and the third day I played with her . Made her chase me and I was surprised how focused she was. I was not able to misdirect her while running like I do with other dogs. She was hyper focused and no matter which way I tried to misdirect her, she never fell for it and always went for my shorts when she wanted and never missed . Fast forward the fourth day, she didn’t even give me a chance to run or create distance from her and she was much more aggressive and she started growling. She is I believe barely 3-4 months old. I stopped right away. I had done a little research on them but I realized right away her drive and intensity when it comes to such stuffs. I am definitely taking this more seriously and gonna train her right. Thanks for all the videos.

i got a rottie that acts like that as well, but for me it began after i started to teach her leashless heel, when you have the dog watch you while you walk while it heels, when she learned that she figured out that she is faster than anyone and that if she does that she can redirect people to where she wants, fast forward a few days, neighbour has bbq party, shitloads of children, she sees a child walk from the group towards a patch of trees and shrubs, dog runs in front of kid, goes to heel at kid's side and stares kid down untill kid redirects back to the party, then comes back to me all proud like you seen daddy how good i was, he was about to get lost i brought him back safe :D that day the children brought her to play with them on the trampoline, she enjoyed it so much that when they left after she got a drink and few leftovers she went back and started herding them one by one back to the trampoline untill one of the kids figured out what she wants and took her with him on the trampoline, she was super happy after :D

The problem is most people don’t know what a Malinois is! Yes, they see the TV shows and movies, but they really don’t understand the true nature of the dog. I didn’t know either in the beginning. Don’t let the other dog owners convince you either, I have heard this at least a dozen or more times, my dog is nice and never fights with other dogs. Yes, but introduce a high drive ,hyper, stronger than they look Mal, and now all the dogs change in the park. In the beginning when I was ignorant = lack of knowledge, I tried this and luckily no dog or human was hurt! Within 2 minutes things can turn South quickly! Especially with other people introducing other dominant breeds, it’s crazy! Don’t Do IT!!! Be safe and enjoy your dog and work with a person that’s familiar with the breed. Robert and other good trainers, know this and care about the dog and only want the best for the dog and you! Be smart! :)

My dog just bares teeth and growls at any dog no matter what size or even puppies. He’s really reactive. I just avoid situations now because it’s impossible to walk past a total stranger with another dog! If I cannot avoid a potential meeting, then when he sees another dog ahead he just goes into prey drive, total focus ears back. I have to break this drive by turning him around and/or focus him on a ball whilst the other dog passes whilst telling the stranger please keep moving don’t stop.!

i would not use a ball to break his focus on the other dog tho, ball is just a substitute for the other dog, i would rather try with treats if i had this problem, luckily, my two girls love meeting other people and dogs and are quite nice about it too, they know the difference between adult child and elderly somehow and adapt acordingly as well

I have a question. I have trained Beagles for years now. When the temp is cooler I run my Beagles 5 and 6 days a week. With this being said, coyotes are a big problem in my area and have attacked Beagles. ?Could a person train a East German sheperd bloodline dog to go with me and protect my Beagles from these coyotes who are aggressive? Beagles when running a rabbit are totally focused on the rabbit track. They do not even know that a coyote is even around. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try and avoid situations/times that put your dogs in danger. A single GS is not going to see off a determined pack of Coyotes.

@EastWestMedicalArts12 жыл бұрын
Coyotes will kill your dog. Think about it. They live in the wild, hunt for their food, survive outside in all weather conditions. Domestic dogs just aren't that tough. Be careful. They will send out one or two scouts and if your dog chases after them they will lead it back to the pack. No matter what kind of dog you have it won't have a chance against a pack.
@michaelrice98942 жыл бұрын
Thank you, for your comment. I have seen and witnessed a breed of coonhound chase down and kill coyotes. These hounds are huge and are killers. Guys that run them have tracking devices mounted in their trucks. I know also a beagle is no match for a coyote. 2 Beagles or even 3 have no chance to protect themselves from an attack. When a coyote sees or smells me they run off. I have a KZbin channel that shows what my Beagles do. It's called Rice's Beagles. In February when coyotes are breeding they are alot more aggressive. My videos will show how I do things. This way you might understand how I do things. Coyotes will act like they want to play and draw your dog out then the coyotes will attack. I know what happens if they succeed.

No they wont, they never did before, the older one plays like this with all the dog she likes, she dont like dogs that cant go toe to toe with her, and it never escalated into something more dangerous than rough play in 7 years and she is a great friend with all the dogs that play with her.

@@mkmcat so you think its any different when they play rough than when rotties do? i think both are equally dangerous if the dogs have no preset limits, like i said, mine play rough and love it but have limits, not once was there yelping or blood or any other kind of injury and while granted, Malis are a bit extra as dogs go, when talking playing rough i can bring you to see a pack of dogs you'd think will kill eachother from moment to moment and show you 3 hours of incessant rough play without repercussions, a Mali is included in this playgroup as well as both my dogs my neighbours boxer, we got english mastiffs, corsos, quite a few pits, some we are not quite sure what they are, 1 is an ovcharka mix,a dobbie pair and others, they are quite the rowdy bunch when they go at it believe you me :D in now 4 years, 0 injuries with new dogs coming in the group and some leaving through time, not one problem,my older dog is the leader of the group now which is weird as she never struck me as an alpha untill she kinda just became one, noone fucks with her and while she is quite the chill dog she frowns upon playing with new arrivals and sticks to those dogs of the group she knows the most and besides, there is not a dog that can take her in play fights, im sure if shit went real it would be a different situation but when they playfight she kinda always wins, as she is amongst the biggest and the fastest of the group at the same time and can use her weight and size really well, the younger one i have is the up and coming den mother, when she will be of age i have no doubt she will be the leader female of the group, she cannot win playfights against the older dogs not even with my older training her daily as she is too young and inexperienced yet but her time will come im sure as she is even more athletic than the older one with a personality to match and the will to never give up, if we dont get a female mali in the group she will surely be the den mother one day. Its so fun to watch them play and gauge the reactions of the people passing by, how many times we were called crazy to let our dogs "kill eachother" by them, its always funny tho.

Most people have a tight leash which adds to the tension and they let them linger too long. Loose leash, count 1001, 1002, 1003, then call your dog away. If anything is going to happen it is usually at the 1005 mark, so stop before getting to that count. You want it to be a positive experience, especially for puppies, as they tend to remember things for the rest of their lives. Check out Joel Beckman's Rottweiler named Creed video for the foundation video for loose leash walking and reactivity. Some of his videos have dogs meeting, but he explains everything and how/when to do it. Hope that helps.

Why does my Malinois only react to submissive dogs. She shows dominant behaviors only to submissive dogs. Can they smell the cortisol that the dog and the owners are giving off. Because it seems like it’s the same type of owner too. One that is scared their dog is going to “get attacked”. What came first the scared owner or the dog that “always gets attacked”. I think the owner has something to do with causing their dog to be so submissive.
@redlandlane99392 жыл бұрын
I'd like to know this too as my bitch displays similar behaviors, IMO (and happy to be proven wrong) she seems to see weakness as a threat, rather than an opportunity, its weird, its like she's angry at the other dog for being soft. typing this out now I wonder if she is doing it because she knows she can and would do it to tougher dogs too if she thought she could get away with it.....

Robert what you say is very wise whilst (I think) it's probably not what people want to hear. It takes some dog owners a long time to understand what you say and that you are right. Up until that point, if they ever reach it, they'll just be like: "he's talking from An out of touch trainer POV or he's talking about raising employable work dogs, not my pet dog". I most certainly have had these thoughts cross my mind. I went from letting my rescue dogs doing whatever the f they want so they are free and get their needs met, simultaneously becoming dominant, reactive, insecure dogs. Now catching up for all the lost time, I let them be independent / uncontrolled (run free). Having walked them together instead of working them solo, all the bad that that has caused :'(. With my Beauceron pup of 5 months, all I do is obstacles and obedience, constant engagement and focus, she excells at it and loves it. You can see it in my video's. She rather works with me than look at other dogs etc. It's going perfect at thé moment. I understand your POV about raising dogs and avoiding or limitng uncontrollable scenario's as dog Parks. We meet dogs on my terms, don't worry folks :) All these new wave dog coaches with their almost hippy-like approach to dogs, sigh. They prioritize thé dog's comfort over proper control. Touchy feely, long leash, be free approach, ugh! Reeks of inexperience. I admit when I had no clue, that was my intinuition too May Dog help us when the elder generational wisdom fades.
@weedhigh25642 жыл бұрын
untill i had my first dog i was just like the hippy-bullshit you describe, i wawnt ma dawgs to beh freeh!!! then i got a dog and realized right away thats not how it works, they can have their moments of freedom sure, but if all they have is freedom problems are sure to follow fast. from various injuries to neighbours hating you and all the inbetween. dogs want stability consistency and just the right ammount of control to be in that sweetspot of obedient yet relaxed, attent but carefree. The dogs comfort is for me not synonimous of his wellbeeing, do you want your dog to be comfortable or do you want him to live a long and fulfilled life? Because at some point you have to choose and if you choose comfort, im sorry to say, you should not get a dog.
