What an adorable, well behaved pup! I absolutely love her!! Great video, I too had two breeds that had to have ears taped, Great Danes and Chinese crested. Omg those Danes needed to be taped a long time, especially if they had a show crop. There is nothing I hate worse than a Dane that has been cropped and the people don’t put in the time to make sure the ears stand. I taped up to a year with one of my girls, and she had beautiful ears! Thankyou😄

Thank you! I have the cutest little boy Chihuahua. I got him at 10 weeks and he’s now going to be 14 weeks tomorrow. Both ears were down evenly and he looked really cute, but now one is going sideways, so he looks off kilter. He’s teething big time and maybe that’s what’s going on, and I was wondering how to tape them up. Watched a few others. Yours seems the best. I hope it works. Did this method end up working for you? I'm trying it with a Frenchie but my first round (w paper tape) ended up on the floor. She keeps scratching the tape out (and my boy puppy is helping to remove the tape too, his ears are perfectly up) so...frustrating...

Do you think this method will work for a Frenchie puppy too? She's about 3 months (90 days) . They are already mostly up but are folding a bit in one weak spot...Thank you for this great vid. That baby is ADORABLE!

My longhair chihuahua had upright ears at 3 months, then they went up and down over and over again until 6 months when his ears stayed up. He's 9 months now and both have been down for at least a month now... is it too late?

Oh my goodness, I fell into a doggo rabbit hole and somehow thankfully found your channel, then this video!🙏 Please notice my Dilly in my picture. We fostered, then adopted her this year and she came to us with her ears always down, but slowly is raising them at times as she becomes more confident (we suspect she was abused in some way as she is still very sensitive to sounds and sudden movements, yet we treat her with sensitivity). She will be 5 years old this January. I used to joke that I'm going to get popsicle sticks and tape them to the back of her ears to train them to stand up, and I was half right! I would never do that, of course. My question is, do you think it is too late for my chihuahua to try this technique to train her ears to stand up? I notice she does have a small crease in her ears where they fold down, but it still feels "soft" and not set, if that makes sense? I am so beyond thrilled that you found me! There’s tons of Chihuahua stuff so I hope we can keep you entertained and maybe teach You something new to try. I am so happy for you and for Dilly! It sounds to me like there’s a perfect match there. Oh yeah the whole popsicle stick thing! I’ve actually heard of people using tampons as well. Chances are at her age she’s probably going to have bent ears. Especially if there is a noticeable crease. Sounds to me like she has soft ears. It can’t hurt to try though so I would give it a go.

Hi, I tried to tape my Chihuahuas ears a couple of times also like the way you show it, but my Chihuahua wants to scratch and is shaking his head. The tape I found in my country is a lot thinner than yours and I had to put two layers on top of each other. He is nervous about it and doesn’t want it. That was months ago. Now he just turned 1 year old. Can I still try to do something about it at this age?

Try some warm water and soap on a squeezed out cotton ball - or baby oil - but make sure it doesn't get into the ear canal.

How do you get that 3 month pooch to sit so nice and content..mines always puppy biting steady. Now at 6 months still doing it!.. could it be do teething?. Luckily his got ears like a gremlin..

I know this is an old video so I hope I get a response. My chihuahua puppy is 8 most old. Her ears were very straight and up all the way. Then she started teething and they fell completely down. She had to have 6 baby teeth pulled last week because they wouldn't fall out. Do you think if I tape them will they go back up?

I heard this and I don’t know if it’s true, Are deer head chihuahuas less aggresive than apple head chihuahuas? I just wanted to see if you might know the answere, by the way your chihuahuas are so adorable!

Thank you, you are so kind! I would not say that they are less aggressive. The apple shaped dome is what the breed standard calls for. It’s a structural piece of what a purebred Chihuahua looks like. One might say a Chihuahua bred closer to the standard could be more terrier like. The chihuahua is supposed to have a terrier like quality. But again it’s really all about genetics no matter what the head looks like. I had a pet shop (gasp!!! I know!!!!) Chihuahua years ago who had more of a deer shaped head. He was extremely aggressive especially towards other dogs. Like red-zone aggressive! Another example of how socialization as well as genetics can make a less than desirable Chihuahua temperament. I read you should always do outside of ear to tape. Works better quicker. Safer. Will see
