We had our Dachshund spayed 9 days ago and she is completely back to normal now. She did not eat anything on the day she got home from the vet but ate regularly the day after. She also was probably too active the day after. The second day after she was in a lot of pain and would yelp when we tried to pick her up to check her belly or take her out. Third day and later she got better and we had to keep her from jumping on everything. The other difference was only three days of meds. We also kept the cone on for seven days - she did not normally mind it but it got in the way of eating, drinking, and chewy toys.

14 days to fully recover where you don’t have to keep their activity level low anymore or keep them from pulling out stitches. As for the scar, I can still see a little bit on Roxy today. It will most likely never disappear completely.

The vet told me everything. Just keep an eye on the incision to make sure it doesn’t tear open or get infected. I wish Athena a great recovery! 🐶

I got my miniature dachshund from Depayne Dachshunds. If you live in Iowa, I would totally recommend her! She has the cutest puppies, really cares about them, and has reasonable prices.

She's adorable. Our little girl before spayed 72lbs after 69lbs, she whinned for 4 days, ate 2nd day tiny bit 5oz chicken, 3rd day ate reg 10oz 4th day refused to eat took her to vet,her incision inflamed/vet stapled it, took her off antibiotics/other pain, gave different meds/spray, 5th day hand fed chicken 5oz 6th day same 7th day feeling bit better ate same she's a American Pitbull terrier super intelligent think she gets angry put her bed upside down carries her 2 toys around/very protective over them, she usually thanks me after meal she's been not that active, wears donut from day1, she tries to take it off, goes into cage rubs it we have to watch her,she won't do it if I watch her when I do not she does, she's been professionally trained, very spoiled, doesn't want dog food no kibble she eats hamburger, pork chop or chicken won't eat rice or veggies. maybe in week she'll be better. lol

It’s hard to say, but it sounds like she is still healing and adjusting to a new environment if it’s only been a week since she got spayed/adopted. 🙂 (I personally never saw any behavior changes from my dogs due to spay/neuter. But they do change as they get older...not sure how old your dog is though.)

Spays are a lot more invasive than neuters...the wonderful perks of being a female. She is most likely going to be in a lot of pain the first day just like Roxy was. Just comfort her and let her relax.

I hardly notice the hair since they are so small...if you are worried about hair, I would recommend a shorthair dachshund like Roxy! 🙂

my beagle cupcake is getting spayed next week because she has a swollen uterus :( what i’m most worried about is that she’s 7 years old so she’s old , and i know with older dogs their are higher risks of things going wrong. she’s a very healthy dog besides how she’s a little overweight (28 pounds) she has a fever and her period is really bad right now due to the swelling in her uterus. she got wrecked by a car 3 weeks ago but there were no injuries, just a little bleeding that easily went away. luckily what happened had nothing to do with this situation, but she’s been in pain for a couple of weeks and luckily her uterus just started to swell up so the infection is small and can be avoidable. lately she’s been really depressed and shows no interest in things she loves (taking baths, walks, playing) and she just lays on the couch all day. :( i want to help her but i don’t know what to do. she’s taking antibiotics right now but it’s still very clear that she’s not feeling well. are there any tips on how i can keep her occupied from feeling depressed or sad after the procedure?
