Dang that looks intense. Awesome. You guys are brave and thank you for what you do help the rest of us go about our daily lives without concern. We greatly appreciate your sacrifice.

What a gorgeous cat... The most beautyfull fighter jet ever build. And for an airplane that sice it maneuver very well. I'm in love with the Tomcat, I see it first time in a Aero Magazine... I think I was 12 or 13. So I was 45 years and fly Aerobatic glider mdm1fox in Austria as my hobby. I never have the luck and honor to see the Cat in real live... But always I see in a movie magazine or in a video. I must cry, how beouty she is. What a airframe. Every air molecules that touches her wings must be lucky... ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

replying to a 2 year old comment, one of the guys who were in charge of making this documentary ended up on Ward Carroll's channel where he at one point did say that they had to shoot additional cockpit scenes, but at the time the F-14 had been decommissioned. So they had to send Jay up in an F-18 and get cockpit shots there. Good eye though.

@@someguy120100 Paco Chierici. He is the aggressor pilot in this video. He produced the movie as well.

F-14 is the most dominant fighter Navy ever has had. This video shows how it bled energy of its adversaries and then they were sitting ducks. The aggressor is actually an F-20 Tiger shark that was developed as a superior lightweight fighter than the F-16. Yet, F-14 completely dominates it by running it out of energy and airspeed. This is an F-14D variant with the GE-110 engines that produced close to 60,000 lbsf of thrust in full zone 5 afterburn. The most powerful engines ever in a fighter. To this day, I read books from Naval aviators who flew this bada** plane. Nothing ever wanted to mess with an F-14 and that is what it showed in 36 years of service.
@jasperbrowne77996 жыл бұрын
Nope the aggressor is an F-5E Tiger II and the GE-F110s only produce 32,000 lbs of thrust per engine maximum. Also the F-20 was not built as a superior lightweight fighter to the F-16 it was built in direct competition with it and that's the reason that it didn't succeed as an export as the F-16 and F/A-18 had already been chosen by customers and the USAF wouldn't take on the F-20.
@StevieMoore6 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the f-20 was never produced

Its actually in us navy service so its either an F-5F or F-5N....only two models procured from Switzerland to serve as navy adversaries

1:18 *THAT'S not a Tomcat!!!!* They snuck a Hornet in there!!
@wanjevi5 жыл бұрын
No hornet there bro , why would they do that they got all permission to retake and take clips by f14 v f5 from the top brass
@shaunb65004 жыл бұрын
The wings look like a hornet and i can slightly see the the right tail which is at an angle. Unlike the Tomcat which is straight. Plus the hardpoints are over the wing. Majority of a Tomcats load is underbelly and on the inner side of the wing

1:42 is deffo the cockpit of a hornet
@2ZZGE1004 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 1:18 is a Super Hornet. 'Jay' who is flying the F-14 transitioned to Super Hornets after F-14s were retired so they threw footage from his Super Hornet flight in there. Saw his interview on a podcast recently and he gets emotional talking about the F-14 more than 20 years after this was filmed. He misses them like crazy.
@2ZZGE1004 жыл бұрын
@@shaunb6500 Yeah 0:42 and 1:42 is the F-14D Super Tomcat cockpit. It had a full glass digital cockpit and what they called "Hornet HUD on steroids".
@TomP-1483 жыл бұрын
Those who are saying it's a hornet cockpit. Once the tomcat was retired he went back to top gun in the hornet shortly after and they used his cockpit footage for the movie.

Yeah, there is a lot Super Hornet footage in there. However, the 0:42 and 1:42 are the F-14D Super Tomcat cockpit with full digital glass cockpit and an HUD they called "Hornet HUD on steroids". However, 1:18 is a Super Hornet clip as the wings are Hornet wings.
@MarvinBoydCo4 жыл бұрын
2ZZGE100 wasn’t talking about the hud just MOST of the pilot facing footage is of a hornet

@@MarvinBoydCo Yeah true, that was all shot later when he was flying the Super Hornet

Late reply. So I followed this for awhile. He trained up on the tomcat, but after the tomcat was retired he went back to top gun in the f18 and they used his cockpit footage from that for this. The audio is from his f14 fight though.

Lots of shots from an F-18 cockpit, cool flick nonetheless.
@rogermahajan75866 жыл бұрын
Wrong! That is an F-14D cockpit. The classic front windows in the canopy give it away. F-14D was developed in 1995 with full glass cockpit with all computer avionics, fly by wire throttle system and GE-110 engines that produced 60,000 lbsf of thrust. It was the ultimate fighter until it was retired.
@jasperbrowne77996 жыл бұрын
My dude you're wrong again. Ghill3man was right, many of the cockpit shots were from an F/A-18F Super Hornet. You can tell by the shape of the wings, the under wing pylons, the saw tooth wings and the F-14 doesn't have wingtip pylons.

LOL. Gotta love these shoot-from-the-hip replies.
@Mrparangos36 жыл бұрын
yeah, you're right. the scenes are from the f/-18 hornet's cockpit.
@dominiquestephenson1955 жыл бұрын
Most (if not all) of the front facing cockpit shots are in a Tomcat and most of the rear facing shots (supposedly of the RIO) are in a Hornet. Yah, it’s the difference between having a tennis court behind the canopy and a handball court! Lol
