Man I love this. A lot of the people from Speed and Angels I really enjoyed seeing more of you all. I hope that, as there seems to be a resurgence of interest in aviation, you might be able to get a full length documentary funded and done. The Saints have such a rich history it deserves to be told.

This short film just doesn’t get enough credit! It encapsulates the desire to pursue high performance aviation so well!! I’ve watched it so many times and every time I’m only sad when the video ends. I wish there was more! S&A is wonderful but this is something truly special even more so in todays world of virtual training. At the end of the day, there is no replacing the man in the machine! Keep writing Paco!! I can’t wait for your next book!

@@SPFLDAnglerNot all museums have ones you can sit in. At the Boeing Museum of Flight in Renton, WA for example there is an A model (I forgot the squadron number) but it was a Jolly Roger used in The Final Countdown. That one is sectioned off and there’s no real way to get a good look at the empennage. Still a beautiful jet and holy cow I was surprised how BIG it was even in full 68 degree sweep.

CDR Chierici, Sir, I came across you and Meagan on the Tomcast, episode 20. What a terrific episode! It was from there that I wound up here. I learned a lot just listening to, and watching this entirely too short clip. I am a proud F-14A maintainer who was in the fleet from '82-'86, then two years reserve. I have carried the lessons I learned in those days well into my professional career post-navy. I want to thank you, and all of the people I've ever served with, for teaching me so many very valuable things, and to remind me of where I came from professionally. I appreciate it.

Had the pleasure of spending time at Fallon back in the sixties when the Navy used it to practice nuclear weapons delivery (loft bombing). I was an Aviation Electronics Technician and Plane Captain. The mosquitoes were nasty there. They were so big that one day we accidently refueled one thinking it was an A4-D Skyhawk. The pilots were Gods and I wanted to be one.

It would be absolutely amazing to just be present at a fighter pilots end of career ceremony. Understanding such a minuscule amount of dog fighting pilots, would still be a huge life experience to witness the passing of the torch and see the experience he has had throughout his life’s work decorating his character and uniform. Thank you very much for risking it all for all of us!!! Be safe and stay healthy!!! Cheers 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️

Gen. Yeager was said to have claimed there was no such thing as "the right stuff," or that he couldn't define it. But consider this...from my limited flying experience, and watching flying and talking to professional pilots (my father included) and listening to these guys, it seems to me that "the right stuff" is simply the ability to strap on a machine like the F-5 and become one with the machine. If you have the right stuff, the gap in achieving this oneness closes to a certain point. These guys exhibit this quality, and to a degree, race car drivers have it too, but they don't operate in a three-axis world. As one who very much respects professional pilots, and envy's them too, it's good to see the respect they have for their profession, and those who have gone before them. Godspeed, Gentlemen!

In the 80’s at Oceana we had VF-43 Challengers as aggressors. They didn’t have F-5’s but they had Israeli F-21 KFIR’s. Souped up light A-4’s, F-16N’s and T2 Buckeyes for training. I have been to Fallon probably 15x on DET in various F-14 Squadrons I’ve been in. I miss it a lot, because now I’m literally a FROG 😂 Great job men!

It’s really amazing - everyone of those dudes was wearing a Top Gun patch. As a reserve squadron they can hire who they want. Same for the Omars at Oceana. I think I read that when the Hunters VFA201 went on their historic cruise in 2003 all but three of the pilots were FWS grads. That’s nuts. It’s really not an exaggeration when that one guy says these are the best fighter pilots in the world.

Old school pilots...they wear the parachute out to the aircraft. For the CO as a Captain kind of a sad day. Giving up a profession that is carved in blood, training, and experience. Your stuck with either staff desk jobs, possibly Airwing or Aircraft Carrier CO. Whatever job it is the day to day flying is gone. You might get some time for currency and training but for the most part everyday flying is gone. Hope he had fun and moves on to flag rank or retires as they say....going out on top.
