Dogfighting Technique and Tips for AJS-37 Viggen (with MiG-21) : DCS

I have watched two videos about dogfighting the Viggen, one by Growling Sidewinder, the other this. One says the Viggen hates the two-circle, the other says it hates the one-circle. But from what I've seen, you actually did use one-circle tactics and those were the only cases where you were able to get a gun solution. And every time you switched to two-circle, the Mig started pulling away from you... except in cases where he mismanaged his energy. That, combined with seeing how Growling Sidewinder used two-circle in a Mig-21 to methodically gain on and eventually shoot the Viggen... I'm going to lean on the Viggen performing better in one-circle, than two-circle.

About the Viggen gun pods. Primarely not used for dogfighting just like the AJ37. JA37 hade a internal gun for dogfighting.

I still don't understand why they didn't do the JA37 Viggen for this game... The AJS37 is an updated version of the AJ37, the first version with attack as its primary role. The JA37 had a different, better engine, it had a different radar, a cannon mounted in the bottom (the AJ and AJS had to use pods) and most of all, the instrument panel had three digital screens rather than gauges, like the AJ and AJS.

I should really join your server. Question: how are you judging your airspeed with these Cold war era jets? I'm assuming it was through listening to the wind.

Airspeed indicator is the simple answer (I check it all the time every few seconds), but also fly these non-flybywire planes with a light hand. In most cases there will be AOA indicators, sound or light on the MiG21. If ypu keep it at the edge you'll be good

For the Viggen if you're too fast and pull too hard, you'll lose the wings, but too slow and you get an audible compressor stall which is fixable by throttling up

Right after this flight, we did some A-4 vs MiG-21 work with Talo (he flew the A-4 too before flying the Mirage III). So, sure we can make a video. But you can get first hand knowledge if you join the server, real time feedback.

Too bad that Heatblur Simulations hasn't develop the JA-37 version with BVR capabilities yet. The domain of this beautiful aircraft is the thin air above 25.000 feet and at that altitude one should be armed with medium range missiles.

Belive it or not, most of the systems in the JA-37 are still classified due to some being used in the Gripen. A guy a few years ago gathered all the information to make a simulation of thr JA-37, and got arrested for it.

The JA-37 also has a stronger engine which does not stall out, its triple as powerful as the on in the AJS-37.

@@billyw5493 The JA 37D variant. It uses a Nav screen, namely the TI 237 and other systems used by the Gripen. JA 37C however should be able to be made.

The only effective technic against Mig21 ( when flying Viggen) is pressing Ctrl and E. Three times lol😅😅😅

Not really correct the word should be pronounced with the same “tempo” as “chicken”
