But you did it kindly. And I can see that horse has a bond with you. Cause if he REALLY didn’t trust you or want to, YOU KNOW HE COULD OF BEEN GONE IN A FLASH!!!! I saw strong men, like yourself, lose their horse to fear! The horse trusted you so he went along with what you were doing!!! Horses need a LEADER they trust will help them! They need a trusted leader just like a dog! I have a GSD puppy I’m training for Service Dog and was scared to death to go through the metal detectors he was glued to my leg😂. And I let him because he was young and still insecure but as long as he went through I didn’t care how he did it. But now we will work on him going through calmer. Which only comes by going through over and over and knowing that he won’t get hurt doing it. This will build his confidence level. And it’s same with horses. You build the confidence level by doing over and over. GREAT VIDEO!

Truth. It comes down to being in control in the relationship with the animal. As you said in another video, "not being a passenger". When we give up that control we have done the animal a huge disservice. Champ's eyes tho: such a kind soul 💖

Thanks for doing this video! The world would be such a better place if more people truly understood what you're talking about! Those who ignore willful disobedience, fear aggression & avoidance are destroying every aspect of civilization- from the animal kingdom to their own children. Positive only approach results in societies DEVOLVING. Every creature has a social order; needs roles & boundaries on an instinctive level to gain a sense of security- if ya don't feel right ya can't act right. 🙏

Well said. I was riding my very green 3-year-old down a trail I knew was drama-free. Little did I know the neighbors got a herd of Emus to put in their pasture. They were not minding their own business Emus, they were excited to see us and were all bunched in the corner flapping and making crazy noises. My horse was like, exit stage left and wanted nowhere near them. We were there for about an hour trotting in circles. My horse is not the kind of horse you can get off of and work through a problem he is so big, that it is safer up on top of him than it is on the ground when he is having a "moment".

Really glad to see you in a brain bucket! Haz, there is a great trainer with energy like yours here on YT named Ryan Rose. He has some great exercises to help you with that fear issue.

Beautiful place to trail ride, we call it hacking out in the uk. My horse taught me everything I needed to know about dogs... still learning daily too.

Good advice. My father closed the car door on our dogs tails(no injury but quite painful)and the next couple times he resisted coming out of that side. So I just pulled him through the car door and he conquered his trauma and doesn’t hesitate anymore.

It is possible that the horse saw/heard/smelled something that you didn't, like the scent of another animal that had recently been on that area of the trail (like a bear, mountain lion, wolf, etc. Not sure what wild animals you have there but there are probably some), or it could have seen something and misinterpreted it, like maybe mistook a stick for a snake. I think its really good though that you make a point to get off the horse when its acting up and lead it. There are a lot of people who utterly refuse to get off a horse and just kick the crap out of it or something to make it go and then wonder why things went badly or why they got bucked off. Too many people need to learn its okay to get off the horse if things aren't going well, its not letting the horse "win".

It’s easy to fall in love with a horse but experience has taught me to just accept that some horses p, like dogs will not always be what we want them to be. I think you need something with more experience and a little more mature and trail proven. It’s a great way to start. The margin for error in horses can be very slim. Maybe hire some one who’s got horse training skills and work him for a bit.

you're definitely better with dogs than horses amigo! take care and keep the videos coming :) your horse is not insecure, he's probably tired or not conditioned to be mounted a long time... horses don't like to be mounted it hurts their back :) do some interval training with him and of course don't let him dictate when he stops.
