Thanks for watching everyone! A number of years ago (2007) Julie and I produced and directed a documentary about competitive horse plowing. We followed a family to all of the local horse plowing competitions and then to the final 'International Plowing Match' held each fall in Ontario Canada; hosted by the Ontario Plowmen's Association.

Thanks for posting. I have been to two IPM's (2009 Earlton & 2018 Chatham) but did not watch the actual plowing....volunteered at both, so it was good to watch this online. My father who would have been 102 this year grew up and farmed until he was 50 years old. He often talked of the plow horses...he plowed fields with horses as a young man and then later with tractors just before leaving the farm....he was a hulk of a man 6 foot 2 and broad across the back with huge calloused hands from hard work (which he enjoyed and took pride in doing).

Hey Glenn family.. this was a very unique video for you to post. And I am so glad you did, my sister is doing our family tree. This was really educational for her to watch, we have family going back to the third boat after the Mayflower. On one side, and the family on that side is where I get my influences from when it comes to cooking and farming and gardening and being frugal in the kitchen..(saving bones, vegetable ends, freezing and making homemade stock)and watching your videos has reminded me of how important it is to know how to dance around the cupboard and make a great meal, with what you have available! P.s. my mom was born into the city side of the family..🤔😉 thank you again for doing what you do!! D.Mushroom hunter

This was an interesting documentary. I very much enjoyed it and would be interested in watching other documentaries you filmed in the past that you want to (and are legally able to) share.

Pretty interesting. Seems like the land owner is the real winner with all that free plowing.

Thanks so very much for sharing this Doc. I have relatives that work an organic farm w/single draft & plow. I was glad to share with them, but dont know if this want too far an event from them, as these summer Ag events are so often quite regional. I’ll watch again to see where in Ontario this takes place. Always fun- 21st century “Natural Horsemanship” relationships are predominant over yesteryear’s of disciplined “animals”. A well suited team (4 leggeds and 2 leggeds) is a great relationship to watch, no matter the events.

Thanks for sharing. It would be interesting to know how this family and the competition are doing. Enjoy also a little backstory on how this film came to be.

My great grandfather did this as a farmer in Saskatchewan. As he was a settler for a farm. But he never did this stuff for sport but because they just didn’t have vehicles. He didn’t use horses he used something like bison. Meat eater or not if you wanted grain this is how it was produced in the 1900s before we had tractors..

I find this interesting as I found a non profit on the internet who teaches and helps farmers in third world countries use horse drawn equipment as it's cheaper to use horses than diesel fuel I less developed worlds
